The first National Football Simulation League draft is just around the corner and the world’s best football talent and their fans are on pins and needles. While many prospects are gearing up for the draft with endless pressers, smooching up to teams, living it up with their crews, and trying to capture the spot light, one player is flying beneath the media’s radar.
Enter Jayce Tuck. Jayce is Cal’s best defensive prospect in years, and arguably ever. Jayce possesses tools he has refined working at his craft for years. Technique is not an issue for Jayce, on game film he has demonstrated the precise movements of someone who has put in the time to perfect their skills. What really makes Jayce pop are his physical gifts. He does not consider them gifts, gifts require you to roll your ass out of bed and go look under a tree, Jayce argues his abilities have been earned with his own determination and sweat. Jayce was at the top of the edge defender class in most of the combine measures; this guy is a physical freak.
Despite these demonstrates of character and ability Jayce Tuck is flying under the radar of most of the media and fans. Perhaps he’s overshadowed by some of the big name players coming out of the more prestigious schools across the company, maybe he’s being hindered by the poor performance of the defensive unit he captained (though, as the only bright spot opposing offenses had no trouble triple teaming Jayce and running away from him), or maybe it’s because while other players are out chasing the spot light Jayce Tuck is still putting in the work.
Other players are smiling for the cameras and Jayce is at the facilities, training. He fulfills his mandatory meetings with the media, but after his obligations are met he only hears the questions in his head “Fifth round talent”, “One dimensional”, “less effective spin and swim moves”, “not agile.” Jayce is working his spin moves, doing agility drills, and staying focused.
While Jayce is a physical specimen with the drive to be great one in the NFL, he’s also got a side that can relate to teammates. When asked questions at the facility, he gave one answer “We can’t all afford a ‘cabin’ in the woods.” Poking fun at fellow DE J.J. Watt. This guy is a leader, a comedian, and a playmaker, some media outlets may be sleeping on him but the league isn’t.
It has also been reported that Jayce Tuck has been in direct conversation with at least three teams in the league, who are interested in taking him early in this year’s draft, maybe even the first defensive end off of the board. Let’s see if he can turn a lot of the mock drafts by the “pros” on their heads. I'd be surprised if a team was able to take Jayce Tuck after their first pick or two in the draft. This guy is the real deal. Trust me, you'll see.
