The confusing Cedric Wilkins II saga continues to evolve, as the rookie cornerback was once again spotted in an opposing stadium early this week. Wilkins, fresh from what appears to have been a rough game for him, was seen in Colorado’s facilities early for this week’s contest, although it is unclear whether he has had any interaction with the team or front office. Rather, reporters noted that he has generally been observing team practices, and paying particular attention to veteran quarterback Mattathias Caliban, from a stadium suite alleged to belong to Yeti great Bubba Thumper.
Reporters, learning from past experience, went to Thumper for comment rather than confronting Wilkins directly. Thumper, whose relationship with the press has always been friendly and fruitful, said of the situation, “Cedric spoke to me last week, must have got my info from Tommy [Osborne]. He has a bit of an odd approach to studying the game, and he was looking for access to Colorado’s facilities. Most people know Melvin has run a tight ship, so finding an intermediary was a smart move; I don’t think he gets this opportunity if I ain’t have the pull I do. Not exactly sure what he gets from the experience, missing half a week of practice to just watch the opposing quarterback, but he definitely has a unique approach to the game, and honestly I helped him get access to my box to see if I can learn a thing or two about that. Never too old to learn a new trick”.
The Colorado Yeti organization was not reached for comment. We made no attempt to do so. We are afraid of the moose.
Our reporters did, however, indicate signs of contact between Wilkins and the Baltimore Hawks organization. Immediately following last week’s game, Wilkins was seen on the field with the Hawks’ star quarterback, Gimmy Jaroppolo Jr., notably the first quarterback he has failed to sack this season. Reporters were not able to catch any of the content from the conversation but noted that the pair seemed to quickly develop a friendly relationship, and that, oddly enough, Jaroppolo seemed to be mentoring Wilkins on the art of quarterbacking, walking through his footwork technique. It is not exactly clear how, but it is assumed that Jaroppolo was responsible for connecting Wilkins with Osborne.
Our team managed to record a statement from Wilkins, cornered leaving Colorado’s stadium one evening following practice. Wilkins, asked about how he was spending his time, said, “Listen…I learned this game different from my teammates. The film room, some people can work with that shit…I can’t. I want to see shit happening live, and last week, getting beat by Gimmy…I knew I had some stuff to learn. So, I got myself in the building here, and I’m working through that”. Wilkins declined to comment on his relationship with the Liberty organization, beyond noting, “They’ve got to let me do my thing, all I’m asking of ‘em”. Wilkins was then observed meeting with the same mystery woman from Sarasota, who reporters note was also seen at the Baltimore game; the pair was leaving together in a worn Subaru Impreza, headed in the general direction of Bubba Thump’s Grub.
The Philadelphia Liberty organization was not reached for comment in time for publication, nor are we certain such comment would be meaningful for the purposes of this article.
