That is it folks, with the recent retirement of Davriel Lavigne, I am now onto my fourth player in this league. It’s crazy that this league is already headed for its 5th anniversary. With the 23rd of May being the official start of the league. After all this time here I am still enjoying the league on a daily basis and ever enthusiastic to have and update a player here. Honestly there was a little dip just after I had created Lavigne. Coming off the experience of being a GM and having some concerns around the league. Recreating at the time almost felt regretful to me and the thought of taking a break or leaving the site was circling around in my head. However as apparent by the career I just had wth Lavigne this ended up just being a little phase in my sim life. I am currently back to just enjoying it and earning as much as I can.
It feels bad to bad mouth a player, especially one whose experience is still so fresh, but I think Lavigne was my least enjoyable player in the league so far. Always a middle of the pack kinda player, with 1 standout season during the heights of his TPE, which was the season before regression. He instantly struck back down to mediocrity once that dreaded regression hit. Because of all of this Lavigne only had one pro team appearance and one award nomination. He missed out on the award, but 12/14 votes for Pro Bowl was a nice consolation prize. Lavigne’s lack of standouts seasons created a bit of a drag around the player and I will say I very early on already knew what my fourth player was going to be and there was a bit of a countdown to be able to finally create him. He absolutely had another season in him, but I was losing interest and was really excited for what would be coming next.
So with all that said, it was time to create that fourth player. As mentioned I was already busy figuring out the next player very early on. According to my files the original notepad document to placehold all of Pérez’s data was made in February 2021. Just to give you an idea of when I was already planning this player out. I was able to decide on the position very early on. It was finally time to realise an old dream and become a receiving target. Not a Tight End as I had considered all the way back in S1, but as a Wide Receiver. I know my earning will be good enough to become a main receiver and even with that said I do not mind absolutely bolstering up a receiving core by being a 2nd receiver. Not quite sure what the inspiration for the name was, but I really like what my brian ended up thinking of. Originally planned to be from Costa Rica, I changed his place of birth to the Netherlands with an eye on the World Football Championships (r.i.p). The thing that took me the longest to figure out was his render. I went through almost every NFL team to find the perfect fit. I ended up picking Allen Lazard, not realising number’s had also already used the render, until OD pointed it out when he created a sig for me. Whoops, good thing the league does not have a render cap in place. I am really excited to be back on the offensive side of the ball and looking forward to seeing how a wide receiver will play. Feeling very different than when I created Lavigne and that is very nice.
So what am I looking to achieve with Pérez? Honestly, adding a few more cups to my repertoire
would be nice. Having only two of those buggers after 33 seasons seems a little too low for my liking haha. I probably won’t go ring chasing, as I have always been a loyal guy in sim leagues lol. I spent two full careers with 1 team and switched teams once, because I got appointed expansion franchise GM. Otherwise I would have stayed a Hawk for life with Corvo as well. Besides that I think it would be fun to contend for positional awards again, but as said with me being oke being a second target behind someone it's not the end of the world if I miss out on that. With me being a franchise kinda guy, I think I would like to end up setting a franchise record for something wide receiver related, that is the kinda goals I like to look at. Like how I have recently with Lavigne set the Honolulu pick 6’s in a season and pass deflection in a career record. So, cups and position awards are always nice, but be careful of your franchise records. I am coming for those.
Retiring Davriel Lavigne, also means that my ties with the Honolulu Hahalua are over. When I retired Corvo Havran I was still GM of the team, or maybe co-gm at that point, so I had a guaranteed return to the team. Now that is not the case and I get to experience a true draft moment once again. I will say it here and probably more often in the future once scouting starts. I am not looking to force my way back onto the Hahalua. I get that it is something people do and I understand why these people do it, but that is not a practice I am particularly fond of. Takes away from the amazing experience that the draft is for me. So again, I am open to play for any team as of right now, this goes for both the DSFL and the ISFL. With the only exceptions being the Colorado Yeti, Yellowknife Wraiths and the Philadelphia Liberty, because hey I have been banking yall for 5 years now would be a shame to give that up . Which is of course a joke.
Having said all of that, I absolutely enjoyed every moment of being on the Honolulu Hahalua. If the opportunity of me playing there again came up, I would gladly come back. The early years were rough, I think due to me not really being fit to manage a team and especially shape a team from scratch. The people who came after me in those GMing roles did a way better job and have created a fierce team who has really put in the work over these last few years. With the icing on the cake being the S31 ultimus win, absolutely one of my favourite moments in the league. Together with winning the Ultimus with the Baltimore Hawks back in S10 after so many bites at that cherry. The locker room is full of amazing people who make it a joy to participate in that locker room. I will be still hanging around, but potentially not actually being a part of that team anymore will be so weird. I wish them nothing but the best in the future and I hope we are able to set our mark on the league once more in this current season. We have all worked hard to get here and I could not be any happier.
With all that said I think this is enough rambling about all things are my players and time in the league so far. I look forward to writing more incoherent ramblings once I get going with player number five (and yes I do already have that guy planned out). I look forward to Pérez's career and since beginning to write this media piece he has been approved and officially claimed by the Coyotes. Which I have been enjoying being a part of so far. Tomorrow will be Pérez’s first games and it will be fun to see him emerge in the league. Looking forward to everything I can achieve with him in the DSFL.
