Prompt Wrote:There's one dream that every athlete shares, and that dream is said athlete eventually releasing their own book for the public to consume and gossip about. Miraculously, a publisher has reached out to you and wants to hear YOUR story! For this PT, write about what sort of book your player would write and what sort of reception your book would garner.
I'm sure a lot of players in the league think that they'd write an autobiographical account of the troubles and triumphs they encountered in the league. For me, though, since it's only my second year, I can't say that I have a really interesting career yet. So, instead I'm thinking a fiction direction.
One thing I read that stuck with me was the idea that fantasy football is like an RPG where damage is done with yards and fireballs are touchdowns. That was in a comic to try and get gaming people into football, but I think there could be a fun book the other direction - literally football but with magic. Urban fantasy is popular with a lot of people, so I'd keep the modern day setting but because of some plot reason magic is concentrated on the gridiron and QBs are the pinnacle of offensive firepower. CBs like myself would be some mix of antimagic types and deflection or forcefields or something. Figuring out what's allowed and what isn't, especially with regards to penalties and injuries, would be fairly complex and I'd need a lot of time to figure out a rule set that makes sense and works with the story. The story's actually what I don't have any idea on - I thought up the setting but don't have any specific thoughts on what to do for the plot. I guess just taking a standard sports team plot and using the different backdrop could be fine, but I want it to be a little more novel, y'know? And without the plot figured out, it's hard to think about how it'd be received. Hopefully well though!
