The Season 37 Ultimus and Ultimini have officially come to an end. Congratulations to the the Bondi Beach Buccaneers and Arizona Outlaws for each winning their respective championships. How did each of the finalists in either the Ultimus or Ultimini arrive at the playoffs? Were there any teams that surprised or disappointed during the playoffs? Did the outcome of either championship game surprise you at all?
Season 37 will go down as an interesting one for me. As a DSFL WR, it was the first year out of the four that I played where my team, the Minnesota Grey Ducks, made the playoffs. However, it was not meant to be so we lost out in the conference championship game to the Portland Pythons. However, it wasn’t meant to be for them as they lost in the Ultimini to the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. On the ISFL side, the Arizona Outlaws went 11-5 in the ASFC, defeat the Honolulu Hahalua 31-19 in the ASFC Championship, and then beat the 12-4 Sarasota Sailfish in the Ultimus. The journey of how both these teams got there is an interesting one, but going over both teams roster is a good place to start.
For the Bondi Beach Buccaneers, Grayson Yates commanded the helm at Quarterback, and went 252/427 for 3533 yards for 29 TD’s and 10 INT’s. Armor Queen in the backfield had a league leading 1624 yards on 407 attempts and 14 TD’s, and was a large reason to the Ultimini title. The Bucs featured the WR trio of Derrick Prince, Dip Dhillon, and twerky dingleberry. Prince and Dhillon both had over 1000 yards receiving and at least 12 TD’s to each. Reece Wells also had a solid 22 pancakes, 36 catches, 364 yards and 3 scores from the Tight End position. Their defensive line had Stryker Brown, Thwomp, and Mario Moloka’I, who all combined for 78 tackles, 14 TFL’s, 7 sacks, and 1 forced fumble + recovery. They had a loaded LB room, with Alexander Lawrence, Zavier Perkins, GOAT TANNK, and Cameron Washington, who all combined for 298 tackles, 26 TFL’s, 5 forced fumbles, 3 recoveries, 5 picks, 1 saftey, and 1 house call. Their backfield contained the likes of Jonathan Altidor, Reshad Morris, Ryan Murray, and Jason Oexius. They combined for 266 tackles, 11 forced fumbles, 6 recoveries, 8 picks, 59 Pass defended, and 2 house calls. On kicking, Patrick Cunningham went 43/44 on extra points, 26/36 on field goals, had 72 punts, 19 inside the 20, and had a long of 65 yards.
For the Arizona Outlaws, Wendell Sailor made his name at QB, going 361/532 for 4094 yards, 38 TD’s and 18 picks. Jay Cue Jr. led the way in rushing with 378 carries for 1793 yards and 21 TD’s. Their receiving trio of Captain Billy Stinkwater, Kotoni Staggs, and Quinton Crash all put up exceptional numbers. Staggs had 90 catches for 1302 yards and 11 socres. Stinkwater had 76 catches for 1048 yards and 9 scores, while Crash had 48 catches for 675 yards and 8 touchdowns. Herk Kirkby had 69 catches for 445 yards and 4 scores to add. On the defensive line, Raphael McTurtle, Toucan Sam, and JJ Jay-Jay Jamison Jr. had a combined 111 tacjkesm 8 TFL’s, 2 forced fumbles, and 14 sacks. Their LB core included Akaki Akayre, Glenn Smart, Leonardo McTurtle, and L’Gazzy Burfict; and combined for 299 tackles, 17 TFL’s. 6 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 picks, and 26 passes defenced. Their backfield of Mark Goodhead, Tre’Mendus Johnson, Spottie O’Dopaliscious, Lance Witt, and CMC’s Burner had 334 tackles, 8 forced fumbles, 5 recoveries, 6 sacks, 17 picks, and 3 house calls. On Kicking, Savanthun Witchqueen went 60/60 on extra points, 19/24 on field goals, had 68 punts, 30 inside the 20, averaged 46 yards per punt, and had a long of 67 yards.
Overall, a good combination of talent on both sides of the ball gave the Bondi Beach Buccaneers and Arizona Outlaws a good reason on why they won the Ultimini and Ultimus respectively. They will be remembered forever in the sim world.
