(S40) PT #1 - Media Mayhem

Chaos erupted at the week 1 press conference of Seth Leavitt, when reporters pushed the Honolulu Hahalua corner back on the subject of coffee.  One reporter, Jimmy MiBiscuits, claimed that people should be able to wake up just fine without coffee and that it was a terrible habit to form and example to set.  Leavitt lashed back, correctly pointing out that coffee is an adult beverage that distinguishes its drinkers as trustworthy and pillars of the community.  "You non-coffee drinkers are toddlers who wouldn't know good taste if it punched them in the face," Leavitt remarked.  "You act all high and mightly while chugging down your monster energy drinks like a middle school student just starting puberty.  I wouldn't expect someone with such low cultural standards to understand the majesty and glory that is a good cup of coffee".  MiBiscuits, responding as all coffee-haters do, simply wet himself and cried in the corner for the rest of the news conference.

One of the questions Delores Bickerman gets from the media all the time has to do with her age. Everything from "Aren't you a little old for this game?" to "How long do you think you can keep this up?" have been regular occurrences since her entry into the league. Delores is no stranger to media inquisitions though, and she always comes equipped with snarky responses. Back in her day she was known for telling off the police, so although the media struck a bad chord with her initially, she knows how to handle them just fine. Thankfully her coaches are supportive of this approach, because she has basically no filter and goes off on a regular basis telling reporters exactly where to go and what to do when they ask her these types of questions. In the interests of keeping things appropriate I won't elaborate on what those responses are, but I'll leave it to your imagination and googling skills.

Reporter: You’ve been called up from the DSFL much earlier than expected. It seems unlikely that you’re going to play straight away, let alone make an impact. What was the thinking behind this decision from the Arizona front office?

Smart: Let’s be real for a moment; there was a massive gap on the roster at the safety position and while I may not be a top tier DB right now, I am going to be in the future. There’s no doubt about that. I’ll make a difference right now and in the future. Anyone who can’t see that or feels differently clearly doesn’t understand football — and potentially shouldn’t be employed in a role that requires them to write about it on a daily basis. I’d like to think that the Arizona front-office saw the potential in me during our pre-draft interviews and decided that I was worth the immediate investment. Why else would they have invested a first round pick in me and then dropped me straight into the roster? I think I’ll go with their highly educated opinion, as opposed to your irrelevant one.

Austin Morley generally doesn’t get upset at the media, even when they ask a particularly rude or invasive question. He understands that they are just trying to do their jobs. He will usually answer any question as long as the reporter has put some effort into it, however, there is one line of questioning that will really grind his gears. If a media member asks a question to Austin Morley that has anything to do with a teammate, specifically if the media is trying to play the blame game or point fingers, he will not tolerate it. As a good teammate, Morley will always stand up for his team. If one of his teammates has a particularly bad game or makes a poorly timed or costly mistake, Morley will 10 out of 10 times shift the blame onto himself or otherwise stand up for his teammates. That’s how he has always been - accountable for others mistakes or poor performances.

Prior to Season 40 in a press conference a media member asked Chim a question that really bothered him. The question was about being 16th in the league overall in TPE and still only the 4th best safety in the league.
Chim didn’t like the question as this fact bugged Chim every day. Chim came into the league as a defensive end and position swapped to safety to help the league. Well, along with Chim there were two other safety creates who are among currently the first and second highest earners in the league regardless of position. Along with the two top earners in the league being safeties from S34 there is a S35 create who’s second in the class in TPE who is also a safety.

So that’s the top two earners in the league and the second highest earner in S35 ahead of Chim at Safety. At defensive end there is only one player currently with more TPE than Chim.
At the end of the day its about team wins and not about awards and having the most tpe at a position swap. Chim is glad he switched to help the team but does still get bummed out about having three great earners ahead of him.

During a training camp press conference, Mary Marie was asked by a particularly combative member of the press whether she really believed that her "excessive and frivolous lifestyle of constant partying" would be suitable to the "hefty demands of mind and body" placed on "quality" DSFL players. In response, Marie had this to say:

"I firmly believe that partying and football go hand in hand. If I ever stopped partying, I would have to stop playing football. After a game, I party, and after a party, I practice. I live and thrive in this harmonious cycle, and any disruption would make me a worse player. Both activities are massively self-destructive, and in that self-destruction they both allow me to rebuild myself into someone better and wiser. Plus a bit of [REDACTED] after a game really helps to deal with the pain."

Marie was fined $20,000 by the league for outwardly declaring her usage of hard drugs and for referring to the sport as "self-destructive", as the league considers these statements to be "detrimental to the pristine image of the DSFL".
