(S40) PT #1 - Media Mayhem

Whoohoo! The start of a new season. Colorado Yeti Kicker Orlando Doom adores the surge of energy in those first couple of weeks- especially in the locker room after a win or on the practice field between games. One thing he’s not too fond of though, is press conferences. In fact, Doom would go so far as to say he hates them! Some of the seasoned reporters he can tolerate because they know what they can and can’t get away with, but there’s always that one intern every year that ends up getting under his skin. After Friday’s double win, instead of asking about his performance, the newest reporter for the Rocky Mountain Post asked Doom “why don’t you sparkle like that guy from twilight?” Other teammates gulped in fear- would Doom yell at the poor intern? Cause a scene? After a moment of silence across the room, Doom wordlessly pulled out a tub of glitter, dumped it on the poor dude, and walked out of the room. He has yet to comment on this silent outburst but various memes have sprouted online already!

One question that really struck a chord with our player Ezra Azazel was during an interview in high school. Asking why he would simply not play defense stating that he would be so much better on the defense and that his coach would love to see him be on that side. Well to put it simply Azazel was mainly just upset with this question because he had explained his problems about defense with his coach and that he wanted to play on the offensive side even if he did not get time. For his coach to go out of his way to push a question like this, Azazel was furious. He did not know how to respond it was a question about his personal life that he did not want to reveal. He felt he needed a simple but bland answer for the media. He responded with, "my role model played on this side of the ball".

At the start of the new season, Matthew Fryars was walking up for his first interview of the season. Following a dissapointing preseason performance, Fryars was not psyched for the interview, but attended nonetheless. Partway through the interview though, a question he had not expected was asked, he had been expecting questions about his talent, performance, or even questions about his life, but this was something that he did not anticipate… “What happens to our thoughts when they are forgotten?”
Fryars was speechless, only able to spit out a single word: “What..?”
He did not know what to say or how to answer such a question. After some thought, he finally answered: “They simply just vanish, there’s nowhere they actually go.”
The Reporter countered: “If that were true, then how come we can remember them? If they vanished wouldn’t they be gone permanently?”
“Well… I suppose they just remain in the back of our minds and are only revealed in certain moments.”
“Well what about when-“ 
The Reporter was interrupted as he tried to ask a counter-question: “Sorry but that’s all the time we have for the media today, thanks for coming Mr. Fryars.”
Fryars then left with many thoughts in the back of his mind.

In the first interview before the season for McAlister, there were many reporters along with many questions, but there was one question that stuck out, and that question was "Ace, is this season a must-win season?" That seems like an easy yes for the competitor for everyone asked, and usually its taken for laughs when asked before at the Ultimus, but this time when Ace was asked he decided to think about it with a more deeper way than he normally would because he wasn't sure if it was a must win season. The next draft class was very good, and not having a great season would help us be even better in the future, so maybe it was a must lose season for a better draft pick. Maybe it might only be a must win for Ace himself, who wanted to repeat as a First Team All Pro member for the 3rd season in a row. Anyway, this was too much thought for Ace at the time, so he just responded, I'm just here so I don't get fined.

The atmosphere was tense enough in the room as the press conference began. Right after Arizona Outlaws Ultimus loss the players and the staff was less then happy. The room was packed with reporters, cameras, and microphones, all waiting for the players. As Akaki Akarye walked up to the podium, a journalist raised their hand to ask a question. Instead of asking about poor team performance he decided to off about recent rumors of off the field scandal - some accusations about dunk fighting in a club in LAs Vegas.

Akaki definitely wasn't happy about the question. but still he managed to calm himself and get some composure before answering it.

"I understand that rumors can circulate in the media, but I am here to talk about football and my performance on the field. My personal life is private, and I prefer to keep it that way. I am fully focused on my role as a linebacker and helping my team succeed. Any further questions about my personal life are off-limits, and I kindly request that we stick to discussing football-related topics. Thank you."

For a moment the room became silent. Finally another reporter got up and asked about recent game performance. "Your defense this game wasn't as good as it was all of last season. What's the reason?". the interviews continued as it meant to be.
