Being an international league I think it makes sense to take the Ultimus abroad. If you’re looking to expand interest abroad, what better way to showcase the sport to prospective international markets than with the biggest game of the season, the Ultimus. For Ultimus XL, I proposing that we take the game down under, namely Sydney in the state of New South Wales. As a destination, Sydney makes for an ideal location for football fans in the Asia Pacific region with notably Australia and New Zealand having a penchant for contact sports.
While New South Wales is home to the Bondi Beach Buccaneers the region could do with another team, a possible regional rival could result in an uptick of interest and having the Ultimus in Sydney could very well be a catalyst for an increased interest in gridiron in the Asia Pacific region. If the intent is to generate interest why not take it to somewhere like Auckland, New Zealand you might ask? With the Buccaneers, you have an existing fanbase to draw from. One that will ensure that you’ll get a decent turnout at the very least, so it’s both a safe bet all while being a location that should garner regional interest. Additionally, in Sydney you also have a location that that has a couple of stadiums that can accommodate the big game. The Sydney Football Stadium has a capacity of around 40,000 people while Stadium Australia has a capacity of around 80,000 people. Both are accessible by public transportation so getting people to and from the stadium shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
For the logo, inspiration is drawn from state. The Waratah is the state flower, while the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge are notable Sydney landmarks. The colours that feature are red for the colour of the Waratah along with sky blue, navy and white which are the three state colours of New South Wales. Below are two examples of what the logo would look like with the second option having the Opera House section in grey rather than red.
