First and foremost this is an opinion piece, emphasis on the word opinion. If you don’t agree, feel free to comment, but please do so in a subdued manner. I’m not here to argue, just to state my opinion.
As many of you have probably heard by now, word has come from the head office that Logan Noble will be suspended, after he was caught cheating and boosting his TPE total. To be exact, he added 73 unearned TPE, and covered his tracks by abusing his commissioner powers. But the question I want to ask is was Logan Noble’s suspension enough of a punishment? I’m going to go through each punishment one by one and put in my thoughts on the manner.
1. Two week full-ban from the site:
To me this is ridiculous. Two weeks? That’s it? This guy gamed the entire league, completely abusing his powers entrusted to him, and his ban from the site is two weeks? Call me crazy, but I don’t think that kind of a ban is enough to stop someone from coming back and trying the same thing. Apparently he has a reputation of doing this, so for me the question is why are we even letting him back in the first place. I think most people would agree with me that we don’t want people like that on the site. However, if you can’t ban him for life, I sure think that a ban of longer than two weeks would be appropriate.
2. Logan Noble Suspended for entirety of season 3
I want to start by saying that I get this. We can’t penalize the Yeti for something that they had no idea was going on, and had no control over. I’m torn because while I don’t want the Yeti to just get completely screwed over, I also don’t want a cancer like that in the league. It ruins the site’s entire reputation. I think a solution could be found to this problem, but again, I think the league went a little too soft with only suspending him a season
3. $10,000,000 Fine
Money is relatively easy to come by. While not a huge blow, it is still sufficient in my opinion. A required hit to a team’s cap that takes him would be interesting, but probably unfair to the team. So with this punishment, I can stand by it.
4. 73 TPE penalty
I think the league really could have come out here and put their foot down to really discourage cheating. Just taking away the “unearned” TPE is not enough for me here. While on first glance that’s what the fair thing to do with be, if you think in the bigger picture here, it would favor a harsher punishment. Taking away the unearned TPE is enough to say “don’t get caught”, taking away a significant amount would change the message to “don’t cheat”. It comes down to what the league wants. A league where you’re just discouraged from getting caught, or a league where you know if you cheat it will set you and your player back significantly.
5. Banned from all league jobs until season 8
I don’t know why there isn’t just a lifetime ban in this department. If you’re going to let him back to the site, why even risk giving him the keys to the kingdom again? He’s a proven cheater, and if you want to forgive him that’s fine, by all means I think we should at some point. But I don’t feel that in any situation this risk would be worth it
Again, I have really come to love this league, and something like this unfortunately tarnishes all of our reputations. I think a harder stance would be necessary just to deter this kind of behavior, and so that we can all know that we are on a safe and fair playing field with each other. This ruling does not in any sense give me much confidence that people would be discouraged from trying to game the system again. Thats my two cents, let me know what you guys think. And please keep it civil, discussions are nice, arguments are not. Thanks for reading.
