Not long til draft night, basically a week away, but only really a day away before GMs make the fateful 1OA pick, granting someone permanent bragging rights and clout over their cohort, and not long before I can’t farm these mocks for media money.
Welcome to the lemonoppy media farming era with my final mock, although it's not really farming if this is the last one I do for our class.
But, what will teams do? Well, let’s get funky with it and I’m gonna give you a lemonoppy that’s a few pre-flight beers in. I probably have enough lucidity to give you a quick 1 rounder as a mix of company expensed beers, gin and tonics, and jet lag knock me out. I’m also in the air right now so no WiFi so I’m relying on my outdated spreadsheet, that’s how you, the reader, can tell this is gonna be quality.
Before I go on, I would encourage readers to add to Hudz’s presser, the more questions the better. 1 view = 1 question = Hudz trading me away from Minny. https://forums.sim-football.com/showthre...?tid=44845
I can’t just recycle mocks, gotta have a reason to read these, so lets call this the "AZ trade down and get Iman Outlaw early" mock. It’s been fun to do trades in these mocks, so I’m continuing that.
TRADE ALERT
BER receives 1.01
AZ receives 1.02, BER S44 R3
1.01 RB Oskar Clark 202 TPE - goblin jr.
Do you know who’s the top written media and submarine as a hoagie artist in this draft class? Goblin jr. is. He is him. A Pro Bowl shun because of DDSPF not understanding that this late joiner has so clearly separated himself as the top RB of the class and docking him for only have 10 games played.
Of the top 10 RBs in the DSFL, only #7 Oskar Clark has fewer than 14 games played. And only #1 Reginald Shrubbery and #7 Oskar Clark are Ultimini competitors this year. Clark came in late and just exploded, notching 7 + 1 TDs and anchoring a high flying passing offence.
Not only has this late comer cleared the RB below him by double digit TPE, his bank roll is set up for a couple seasons, and BER could do with some RB help in their system. If you want a player that’s going to put up production, write top tier media, and create FA pull, this is the player you want.
Oskar Clark is going to be a true rookie behind Armor Queen and Berlin will have the strongest RB duo in the league and it won’t be close.
I can say from personal experience that goblin jr. is a top 2 locker room asset in this draft class, and he ain’t 2.
TRADE ALERT
AUS receives 1.02
AZ receives 1.05, AUS S44 R2
1.02 QB Jay Cue III 299 TPE - Opera_Phantom
Austin sees that Berlin has another pick ahead of them (a QB needy team that didn’t hit on the St. Christmas bid) and knows that they have an opening to nab that QB that they need. Arizona just “quietly” stockpiling Reddit class picks with a 2nd and 3rd rounder, which should be equivalent to what a 1st and 2nd would look like this year in terms of draft value, the rich get richer.
Jay Cue III is the top TPE prospect and only QB (other than YKW GM Maximus Boudreaux) in the class. Austin pays up the cost it takes to secure their future at the helm of their offence and locks it in. I don’t really know much about Opera_Phantom, they’re not so active in the public chats where undrafted plebs like me hang out, but I assume they’re cool.
1.03 WR Thomas Sutha 236 TPE - lemonoppy
Sarasota gets a gift and lands the best prospect in the class, me. I’ve had good talks with Sarasota, and with every non UptownCord team (ily Cord), I feel pretty good with putting myself here. Maybe look forward to a position swap? Depends on if the team needs it. I don’t think ISFL Dynasty FF does IDP, so a cautionary note on ol’ me.
1.04 LB Cheecago Boucher 229 TPE - UberBJ
Boucher Esquire has to be one of my most consistently top 5 mocked players. Arsenal profile picture haver UberBJ is a top LB, great fun dude, and Berlin (like anyone) could use some more LB depth. I’ve said so many nice things about this man in my mocks that I feel like I’m just repeating myself at this point. I’m waiting for the Uber off-season media blitz so he can responsibly buy T6 for the next season (jk he’s gonna gamble it).
1.05 LB Iman Outlaw 249 TPE - allbetsonjames
Arizona with a swerve as they take the Outlaw! GM peer pressure gets to them and they take a very high TPE LB at a very reasonable draft spot. This is actually kind of interesting as Outlaw has a rapidly dwindling bank account, this isn’t their main league, and honestly, their TPE lead over the other players getting picked around here isn’t that large anymore, especially as a percentage. I’m not saying that this is an overdraft at 1.05, but it really could be in hindsight.
From a competitive perspective, like, if I was Arizona, I’m not actually sure if it’s better to trade down or not. That 1.01 is so valuable and being able to stockpile picks in addition to getting a great player (also logically taking Outlaw with their second pick in the real draft scenario) it seems like a shame to only come away with a single player.
1.06 S Josh Gibson 261 TPE - DoubleDub
Love mocking Gibson to Sarasota, haven’t really talked to them much as this is a secondary league and they’re mostly in team locker rooms in the PBE, but this is another situation where you have a good TDL user that might not max earn because of time commitments. It’s very interesting trying to suss out what goes on, I wish I knew what their scouting convos are like.
Sarasota needs a safety, right? That's not me just mocking this guy here every time and then just believing they do?
1.07 DT Crasher Wake 242 TPE - ZodiacEXE
My last 1OA told me that he was too high? Well, I listen to my readers and dropped his draft stock :chart_downwards_arrow:. Yellowknife is getting an anchor on their D-line and a mature player who knows what sim league life is about. I think that the Wheel Drafting idea should probably catapult Zodiac to ISFL Commish, but until that happens, we’re stuck with these mocks.
It’s really nice when people mocked get to go immediately and True Rookie it up, especially if there’s an IA player they can immediately replace and are better than from a raw TPE number.
1.08 TE Ignatious Cleetington 224 TPE - 110radio
Welcome to the TE positional bias zone of the draft. A luxury position, I don’t love mocking TEs high, although, Cleetington did talk about maybe a position swap in their last episode of SFNN and they have been swung out as a WR in the DSFL. My Tijuana nemesis, this man would go 1OA if he was a LB or CB.
A small thing, I really do appreciate the forum name change to be consistent with their Discord name.
I think Tijuana is going to go to the playoffs next year, but not with Cleetington at the helm, he’ll probably True Rookie as the TE2 on the team is IA. I think that Tijuana might get pretty gutted this offseason, lot of prime call-up opportunities, they are quite a good drafting team though.
TRADE ALERT
COL receives 1.09
SAR receives 2.03, 2.05, S44 R3
1.09 TE Dylan Duma 236 TPE - honey
I’m basically making the same trade as my last mock for the same reasons, although I dropped the S44 pick a round because it did feel a bit rich. I could even see it being a R4. The real thing keeping Duma down is the anti-gif bias in the gfx grading at the ISFL. COL gets their top prospect and at a reasonable price.
As a note, I really like mocking this trade because I think Colorado has one of the most interesting draft positions, from a perspective of current roster, a strong conference, an interesting set of picks, and their ability to find the locker room fits. Combine that with a slightly imbalanced roster and a not so high TPE GM recreate, I feel like Colorado will be one of the more active teams in exploring trades, even though they may not pull the trigger at the end of it.
Honey to Colorado seems pretty telegraphed and I feel like their awkward draft position might make it really difficult as teams try and take advantage of the fact that honey is just a Colorado LR mainstay already. This really seems like a defining moment for the new GM duo as they try to take Colorado out of the history longest playoff slump.
1.10 WR Anakin Skywalker 191 TPE - ForSucksFake
You know who’s creeping up my drafts? FSF. Not Anakin, they’re not quite at the level of the Minny “not-HOF” FSF player of old, but this Pro Bowler knows his stuff, I changed my update to last week to remove the TPE I was going to spend on Hands to Agility instead and I’m gleaning a lot of ISFL information from them. Character concerns when FSF and Rusfan start talking in Spider-man (?) quotes for a full day, but what can you do. As a side note, I think having FSF in the LR as a WR might be better than having me. I’m probably a little too invested in how many yards I get, this being my first player. FSF gets that this is an “interestingly designed” sim engine more than I do, and talking to him (and the other recreates in this draft) has really made me realize how much I’m very new to this all.
My plan is to butter up FSF until they make me a gif.
1.11 LB Gaius Gleel 211 TPE - Crodyman
This pick and the previous are 100% informed by the fact that Crodyman said they’d retire if FSF went before them. Get that /retire ready bud. Gaius Gleel really exposes how highly I view the LB position and maybe the overall need for great LBs across the board. Gleel represents the last great LB in the draft and I feel like he might get some teams fighting over him.
I would think that Gleel is probably going to find himself in a really good position, he’s a top linebacker and the slate ahead of him is just packed enough that he’ll go to a playoff caliber team. The pick order this year is super weird though, a lot of teams really didn’t trust in this draft and traded out of it. Chicago is rebuilding and I’m curious to see how a True Rookie LB does.
1.12 DT Sack Sparrow 231 TPE - Water
Kinda criminal to leave Water and aka Sparrow all the way at the 12 spot. This S43 draft is turning out way deeper and better than anyone could have imagined (well, not anyone, Sarasota and Austin made some great moves to snag legit talent when people were selling out). Baltimore looks to get to the Ultimini next year, especially with a great player at a position that could work with an early call-up during the Baltimore Ultimus window.
I don’t know how well this pick fits from a positional fit perspective, D-Line is not something that Baltimore really needs more of at the moment, but this is a BPA kind of vibe and maybe hedging against a Mabel Pines leaving in FA.
I have liked taking a RB for Baltimore so maybe they take Bertie Mannering-Phipps or trade down a touch.
1.13 DE Wing Gundam 223 TPE - ctots
My beloved Wing Gundam would rank higher if I got another Getting Defensive episode from ctots. I’ve a vested interest in usurping him as DSFL Awards Head so I’ve gotta be careful my words here to not expose my mutinous soul.
As I’m getting to the end of this draft, I’m really realizing how there’s just a set of players I believe are locks to go early as they’re great to talk to and earn well. You could jumble up the order of this draft in a lot of different ways and I’d be okay with any of them.
As a side note, can we talk about how NOLA’s really kinda just not had a good time in the S43 draft after losing their first and the Berlin first going all the way to the Ultimus. This might be an entire S43 thing, with SJS offering Frost a great opportunity, losing a ton of 1 score games on Hail Marys + getting simmed, and just having a rough go of it. I’m really glad that they were able to snag St. Christmas on that 1+1 deal, I’m not saying they’re a playoff team next season, but if they get lucky...
1.14 RB Bertie Mannering-Phipps 192 TPE - bernardhibou
That’s Pro Bowl croquet player and running back Bertie Mannering-Phipps to you. With a name too long to include the ® to denote him a rookie, BMP is basically 3rd in total rushing yards this season, 4 behind J. West, but making it up with 3 more TDs than West, for a total of 10 rushing TDs on the season. Might expect a position swap here from the BMP, I think that BMP is rightfully getting that buzz in the first rounder predictions and I think they really are a wildcard in the upcoming draft. If we get some more media outta bernardhibou, I think we’ll see some movement here.
Btw the trade tree from 1.01 is coming out of this with a Berlin S44 R3 and Austin S44 R2 + drafting someone at 1.05, which would be Josh Gibson if Arizona hadn't taken Iman Outlaw til this pick. I find it really difficult to imagine teams trading up, it's just so costly, it really is a vote of confidence for a player to know that a team is investing so much into them.
I really find the last first rounder or maybe the last two to be difficult to mock, just from what I know about them as people and how teams have approached them. I have a couple players I flip flop based on how I think about potential trades and draft strategies and I am excited to see how it plays out. So many great players that deserve to be first rounders, but I just can't stake a claim on any permutation with confidence. Sidenote, I'd take Norman Smiley here generally but Iman Outlaw is already a LB.
It’s kinda fun doing a 1 round only mock, you don’t feel responsible to do all the 2nd rounders and slotting in GMs. I feel like I am doing a disservice to the players I didn’t pick though, there’s so many great people who are fun to talk to and I don’t wanna leave em out.
Btw this is my first rounder predictions entry:
Jay Cue III
Josh Gibson
Iman Outlaw
Crasher Wake
Dylan Duma
Thomas Sutha
Sack Sparrow
Cheecago Boucher
Ignatious Cleetington
Wing Gundam
Gaius Gleel
Oskar Clark
Norman Smiley
Anakin Skywalker
This list is heavily biased towards the top TPE earners and the ones I talk to in Discord often. You really can’t go wrong with any of these players at any pick, they’re good people.
PS. If you locked this draft in from a first-rounder predictions perspective, remember to add to Hudz’s presser as you collect your mountain of prediction TPE. https://forums.sim-football.com/showthre...?tid=44845
PPS. Simo is great but if you’ve got Paul Dosza in your first rounders, edit it pls. Whenever I take a look at the first rounder predictions count, it’s so bleh to see so many GMs chosen. I'm glad that there's a thread now that pings people who have a GM in their predictions.
