Draft Day Sports is a very interesting game, the sim is wack and it’s just generally not a good game. But one thing it does have is a newspaper section, in the newspaper they highlight random players and name players of the week. But most importantly they choose a game of the week and have predictions from their “experts”. So with the S44 DSFL season wrapped up, what better time to see which of these so-called experts are really experts.
First, let’s introduce the experts. We have:
Jeremy Piper
Mary Moore
Jim Nox
Darren Francis
Now, let’s go through their predictions through the weeks and see who is the true expert on this committee
Week 1:
In week 1 the game of the week was the Dallas Birddogs vs. the Tijuana Luchadores. In week 1 no one knows what games are going to be good, but this one was as sure as it gets. A game between the two best teams in the South was bound to be a good game. Here are the predictions:
Tijuana Luchadores - Mary Moore, Darren Francis
Dallas Birddogs - Jeremy Piper, Jim Nox
The Birddogs came away with the victory in a tight game making Piper and Nox correct for the first week
Week 2:
The week 2 game of the week was between the Birddogs and Buccaneers. Both were 1-0 beating conference rivals in the first game.
Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Darren Francis (0-1)
Dallas Birddogs - Jeremy Piper (1-0), Mary Moore (0-1), Jim Nox (1-0)
The Birddogs were victorious in this game after a failed comeback over the Buccaneers. Both Piper and Nox move to 2-0 and Francis moves to 0-2. Francis looking like a fraud so far.
Week 3:
The game of the week in week 3 was between BBB coming off a tight loss and the Pythons coming off of two dominant wins, seems like a pretty obvious choice
Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Darren Francis (0-2)
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (2-0), Mary Moore (1-1), Jim Nox (2-0)
Unsurprisingly the Pythons destroyed the Buccaneers in week 3. Francis goes with the Buccaneers and it costs him dearly putting him 0-3. The other three experts seem pretty good so far.
Week 4:
The week 4 game of the week included Portland again as they were facing the Luchadores who were coming off their first victory of the season. Also, Tijuana’s color rush advantage should be noted
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (3-0), Jim Nox (3-0)
Tijuana Luchadores - Mary Moore (2-1), Darren Francis (0-3)
After Portland’s thrilling comeback was foiled by a failed 2-point attempt Tijuana walked away with the upset victory. Francis finally predicts one correctly and Piper and Nox make their first mistakes of the season
Week 5:
Week 5 had what looked like it should be the game of the season. The 4-0 Birddogs were facing the 3-1 Pythons who were coming off their first loss of the season.
Dallas Birddogs - Jeremy Piper (3-1), Jim Nox (3-1)
Portland Pythons - Mary Moore (3-1), Darren Francis (1-3)
The game of the season turned out to be a blowout for the Pythons. After getting the first game wrong Moore has got 4 in a row right and Francis is starting to recover. Also a rough stretch for Jim Nox and Jeremy Piper. Moore looks like a real expert currently
Week 6:
In week 6 Portland was in the game of the week again as they faced the 2-3 London Royals. The Royals were a lot better than their record indicated but it would be an uphill battle to beat the dominant Pythons
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (3-2), Jim Nox (3-2)
London Royals - Mary Moore (4-1), Darren Francis (2-3)
Portland’s second-half comeback ends Piper and Nox’s cold streaks and hands Mary Moore her first L since week 1. Darren Francis really doesn’t seem like an expert so far.
Week 7:
The Pythons just can’t escape being on the game of the week. This time they were up against the struggling reining champs Snorefolk
Norfolk Seawolves - Darren Francis (2-4)
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (4-2), Mary Moore (4-2), Jim Nox (4-2)
Wow, Portland wins again, how surprising! Oh, Darren Francis is wrong, how surprising! Francis has got to be a fraud honestly.
Week 8:
There has to be a good game not involving the Pythons, this time the 6-1 Pythons face the Minnesota Grey Ducks. The last time these two teams faced off it was a blowout for Portland in week 1 so Minnesota will be trying to get their revenge.
Minnesota Grey Ducks - Jeremy Piper (5-2)
Portland Pythons - Mary Moore (5-2), Jim Nox (5-2), Darren Francis (2-5)
Unsurprisingly the Pythons destroyed the Grey Ducks. However, the surprising thing is that usually good expert Jeremy Piper was the only one to choose the Grey Ducks and get this game wrong.
Week 9:
For the first time this season the Kansas City Coyotes get in on the Game the Week action. And can you guess who they’re playing? Yup, the Portland Pythons. Another Game of the Week appearance for the dominant team
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (5-3), Jim Nox (6-2), Darren Francis (3-5)
Kansas City Coyotes - Mary Moore (6-2)
In a high scoring affair, the Pythons won their 5th game in a row. A big swing and a miss for Mary Moore. The experts seem to be evening out with Francis on a winning streak
Week 10:
Why the hell do these guys like the Pythons so much, as a Python I like the attention but it’s getting kind of weird at this point. In week 10 the Game of the Week it’s the Portland Pythons facing the insanely talented Bondi Bech Buccaneers.
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (6-3), Mary Moore (6-3), Jim Nox (7-2)
Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Darren Francis (4-5)
In an upset victory, the Bondi Beach Buccaneers destroyed the Pythons 34-3. For once Darren Francis makes a good call and is the only one to get this right.
Week 11:
YOU THINK GETTING BLOWN OUT BY BBB IS ENOUGH TO STOP PORTLAND FROM BEING HERE? NO, THE PORTLAND PYTHONS ARE STUCK IN A PERPETUAL PRISON OF BEING IN THE GAME OF THE WEEK. In week 11 Portland faces Tijuana in a rematch from the exciting week 4 game.
Portland Pythons - Jim Nox (7-3)
Tijuana Luchadores - Jeremy Piper (6-4), Mary Moore (6-4), Darren Francis (5-5)
Portland recovers with the destruction of Tijuana, since the so-called “experts” didn’t believe, the only person to get this right is the one and only Jim Nox, the GOAT himself.
Week 12:
Week 12 is a rematch of the disappointing week 5 game between the two best teams in the league. Dallas vs you guessed it, the Portland Pythons.
Portland Pythons - Jeremy Piper (6-5), Mary Moore (6-5), Jim Nox (8-3)
Dallas Birddogs - Darren Francis (5-6)
With an elite performance from La’FLuke Paris-Johnson, the Birddogs get their revenge over the Pythons with a blowout victory of their own. Once again Francis looks smart, but when you keep choosing the underdog you're bound to predict an upset eventually. As I mentioned before, everyone seems to be evening out to .500.
Week 13:
AND FINALLY, THE PORTLAND PYTHONS ARE RELEASED FROM THE GAME OF THE WEEK PRISON. This one is between two playoff hopeful, underperforming teams. It’s the Luchadores against the Buccaneers.
Tijuana Luchadores - Darren Francis (6-6)
Bondi Beach Buccaneers - Jeremy Piper (6-6), Mary Moore (6-6), Jim Nox (8-4)
This one results in an important win for the Buccaneers on the back of a great performance by Bertie Mannering-Phipps. Trying to look smart again Francis goes for Tijuana and misses big-time.
Week 14:
And the Pythons are already back after a one week break. This time they face bottom feeders Norfolk.
Portland Pythons - Jim Nox (9-4)
Norfolk Seawolves - Jeremy Piper (7-6), Mary Moore (7-6), Darren Francis (6-7)
For some reason, everyone doubts the Pythons against the struggling Seawolves and it costs them. Nox once again is the only one to believe and gets the win for that.
That concludes the season, sadly no predictions for the playoffs but it was it is. Before we discuss who the frauds are, there are some interesting things that I noticed:
First, Jeremy Piper and Jim Nox have very similar views. They chose the same teams for the first 7 weeks and chose the same for 11 overall weeks which equates to about 79% total
As you probably noticed, the Pythons were in the Game of the Week A LOT. They were in for 10 weeks in a row from weeks 3 to 12 and were in 11 total which is also 79%
Now, to decide who the frauds are and who are real experts:
Frauds: Jeremy Piper (7-7), Mary Moore (7-7), Darren Francis (6-8)
These were easy choices, half right is what you would get if you were guessing so you can’t be doing that as an expert. Piper started at 5-2 and Moore at 6-2 so it’s surprising to see them here, but they both ended the season badly. Now Darren Francis has looked like a fraud this whole time, he started 0-3, and while he had some hot steaks he ended with under ½ correct. You’d theoretically do better if you were guessing.
Expert: Jim Nox (10-4)
The one and only expert Jim Nox started the season well and ended it well. He was correct on 71% of his guesses which I put in the range of expert. I'm glad at least one guy proved competent and I wish him luck in his future endeavors.
That concludes my analysis of the newspaper analysts. If a 2x media comes out after I’ve been holding this media for a month I’ll be so sad.
First, let’s introduce the experts. We have:
Jeremy Piper
Mary Moore
Jim Nox
Darren Francis
