Task 7 - 600+ Words - 10 TPE
Hello and good time appropriate greeting once again dear member of the player progression team. I come to you ready to fill out my last off-season task to benefit my player Cross-Eriksen and as I have the last several seasons I am going to go with a retrospective comparing my player to her predecessors Matt Cross and Wesley Eriksen. Given I already covered their stats through certain seasons this time around I am going to compare her totals after this her penultimate season, and then go through to list all of the top seasons that the trio has had across the different statistics. Hopefully you find this even the tiniest bit interesting, but if not I will settle for it hopefully being easy for you to grade.
Now this past season saw Cross-Eriksen's worst performance as a tackler with just 42 tackles on the season good for the worst result in her career. It did however add one to her tackles for loss total though to bring her up to five and allow her to pass Wesley for the career total of the trio with five to his four. No forced fumbles or fumble recoveries though so she remains tied with Matt at 11 forced fumbles and her lead of 7 fumble recoveries to both Matt and Wesley's 4 remains the same. She had two sacks which is pretty good for her, but still leaves her third of the trio behind Matt's 30 and Wesley's 34. She phenomenally added four interceptions to put her career total up to 38 a full dozen more than Matt's second best at 26. Eleven extra passes defended puts her total to 113 ahead of Wesley's 96 and Matt' 81 by good margin. The only other stat that changed is Cross-Eriksen's game played total going up by 16 to bring her lead to 192 compared to 157 at the safety position for Matt and Wesley. Given she has 35 extra games played it makes sense she ended up with more stats in a few departments, but it does not reduce my joy at her being able to live up to the expectations they set.
Now first stat of the day is tackles cause it is the first in index and my girl Cross-Eriksen does not show up until seventh place so that is the list I will provide. Back in S24 Wesley set the record at 133 in sixteen games breaking Matt's S23 performance of 119 which is second place. Those are the only two times the trio hit triple digits, although Matt came close in S25 with 97. That is the podium followed by 87 for Wesley in S25, 84 for Wesley in S23 and Matt in S28, and finally 82 for Cross-Eriksen in S36.
Tackles for loss is far more boring by comparison as Wesley's S24 performance where he got 3 is the high mark with none of their other seasons hitting 2 or better. Funnily despite having the best season Wesley only had one other season with a tackle for loss, Matt had three such seasons, and Cross-Eriksen is up to five such seasons. That is two stats for Wesley.
Forced fumbles is where Cross-Eriksen finally takes a gold with her S40 performance at 4 being tops for the trio. This is followed by a seven way tie for second at two with Matt hitting the total in S22, S23, S27, and S29, Wesley hitting the total in S22, and Cross-Eriksen hitting the total in S34 and S39.
We have our first tie with fumble recoveries as Matt set the record in S24 with 2 and Cross-Eriksen tied the record in S35. Matt had two more seasons with 1 fumble recovery, Wesley had four single recovery seasons, and Cross-Eriksen comes in with five to give her the lead. After that I will say Matt has half, Wesley has two, and Cross-Eriksen has one and a half.
Sacks see Wesley dominate with first place in S25 at 8, second place in S29 with 7, and tying for fourth place with 5 in S23, and S30. Matt comes in third with 6 in S25, and also is in the logjam for fourth place with 5 in S26. Cross-Eriksen meanwhile adds another to the logjam with 5 in S43 to be the seventh season of the trio to hit 5 or more sacks.
Interceptions we have an interesting tie as Wesley had 5 interceptions back in S30 good for the crown, but Cross-Eriksen hit the total twice both in S39 and S40. She also holds fourth and fifth place alone with 4 in S43 and S45. Matt meanwhile comes in with a ton of 3 pick seasons as his best reaching that total in S23, S24, S27, S28, S30, and S31. Wesley is up to three and a half, Cross-Eriksen climbs to two, and Matt is on the board with a half in terms of top finishes.
Now when it comes to passes defended there is an asterisk and so I am disqualifying the top season because this is my point task. In S26 Wesley had 27 passes defended, however he was playing cornerback that season not safety and for this superb safety trio that gets the stat disqualified. So we give it to Cross-Eriksen's 18 in S39, followed by her 15 in S40. Amusingly enough Matt, Wesley, and Cross-Eriksen then all have a 13 passes defended season with Matt and Wesley's both coming in S31 and Cross-Eriksen's coming in S43. I just think it neat that Matt and Wesley's peak in passes defended as safeties came in the same season.
The sole safety scored by one of the trio was Wesley's in S29 and I do believe that gives him the win in terms of top tier statistical performances.
Now we have one last tie as Matt hit 2 defensive touchdowns in S31 and Cross-Eriksen matched that total in both S39 and S40. Matt had a defensive touchdown in S28 and S29, Wesley managed it in S23, S27, S28, S29, and S31, and finally Cross-Eriksen managed it in S35, S38, S43, and S44. This leads to the final tally being Wesley leading in four and a half statistics, Cross-Eriksen leading in three and a half statistics, and Matt leading in one statistic. Overall not too bad for the trio I would say.
Ultimately I would just like to say I really enjoyed doing this deep dive into the history of my player and her predecessors. Thank you for joining me on this journey and I hope you have a nice day!
