There's so many great things to love about the ISFL. As someone who joined during S22 for the great COVID class, I loved being a part of 2 great locker rooms in Dallas and Yellowknife. If it weren't for those places I would probably have flamed out and never stayed. Even though I'm not in Dallas much any more I still spend a lot of time in Norfolk and obviously Yellowknife. The people make this league. We just use a stupid dot football sim to make and excuse to hang out together. I've also joined and had productive careers in other sim leagues due to meeting folks in this one and migrating over there. Unfortunately a lot of friends have left and I'm sad that I don't get to see them any more, but there are still a ton of friends that I still get to hang out with and see, whether I share a team with them or not.

Honestly I have a lot of love for the league. Especially as someone who is "newer" to this larger body that we call the ISFL I feel as if I have been a member much longer than I actually have as I have grown close with many of the members here. Firstly, much love to my brothers at London Tyler, Joe, Griddy, Gordo, etc... they have all been fantastic at welcoming me into the team and teaching me the ropes. By the same token, my ISFL team the Otters have done the same. Much love to Beck especially for being a phenomenal mentor the entire time and giving me advice as I try to learn more about leading a team of my own. Other amazing members within the Otters include Tomato, Jay, and Cord of course. Outside of my teams I have had great talks with a myriad of members. Some ones that come to mind especially include AMKAMKAMK, Croney, Bamford, Icebear and of course jreed and griis, authors of the highly respectable ISFL mirror.

The thing that I love most about this league is the community. The sim is great and it is cool to make players and graphics and all of that stuff, but it is the people behind the players that makes this so enjoyable. Everyone I have spoken to has been incredibly helpful with navigating this site and this league. My London Royals family has also been great, whether helping with player builds or just pointing me in the right direction for tasks, training camps, activity checks, and all of the other activities that make this league so immersive. Each and every person here has made me feel like I have been in the league for multiple seasons, and not just as a rookie. There is no shortage of helping hands or friendly advice, and it is apparent that the people behind the players are wholly invested in making this as great of an experience as possible for everyone involved.
Oh! Lovely, I get to spread some love and stuff, awesome
So, @TubaDeus of course you know from our time playing Civ that you were entirely influential in me even JOINING the league and I'm glad that I did (if anyone is interested in playing Civ 5 btw hit me up) but beyond that you've been a wonderful and amazing friend to have and spend time with. There's a fun routine in knowing that if we're all in VC in any of the ISFL Discord servers, I can expect that you're likely to make an appearance around 8:30 most nights. @xenosthelegend The amount of times spent running out of breath laughing at some stupid thing or the other over ATM9 or memes is countless at this point, and I thank you for introducing me to Wide Receiver and SPEED! @"fireyheart" Thank you so so very much for a fun and welcoming place to land with Bondi in the preseason, and for generally being super cool! Finally, a HUGE Thank you to @homercrates and @"Bamford13" for an awesome time these first few weeks with the Pythons, helping me to get involved, and generally hanging out! Oh, and @Brad Woof just keep running XD Happy Valentine's! Raphael will see you now.

As much as it pains me to not be completely sarcastic about my love for the sim and its many, many terrible ways that it doesn't work as a sim, my favorite thing is probably the history of the league. The fact that we have our own versions of Johnny Unitas or Patrick Mahomes, our version of Jerry Rice being either a Running Back or a Cornerback depending on preference, our own versions of 28-3 or the 2011 Giants Super Bowls...all of these things add so much to the world of the sim despite the sim itself being barely functional. I love the work done to make a Hall of Fame, the All Pro teams, the award shows in general. I love that we have our own Cowboys, our own Chiefs, our own Buffalo Bills, even. Suffice to say I love the stories we have wrung from this barely functional piece of software that makes every coach terrible and every should be easy game a headache.

Being a relatively new member to the league, I was initially worried about finding my place among all the veterans of the league. Early on I was picked up by the Minnesota Greyducks and added to their locker room. Let me tell you, I love those guys in there. Everyone is very supportive and always willing to help answer questions about the league or help with your player’s build.
One thing I realized is that the league has a niche for everyone. I have loved doing things to earn money to progress my player. From making podcast with @Chicken Lips and @DangWookie, making Gameball graphics for Minnesota and Sarasota, to making a player render and signature for my player. I love being creative and the league has allowed my try and expand on things I probably would have never done. This Valentines Day I choose to be grateful for everyone who makes the league possible.
I definitely love the community around the league! It's mainly the reason why I've stuck around and tried to be as involved as I have. The people truly are what makes the league special and what keeps the grind for TPE so engaging. Whether it's getting into DnD games with @"fireyheart" and @UptownCord, or hanging out in the Norfolk, New Orleans, or the BBB locker rooms, or even the rest of the DSFL GMs in the GM chat, it's always a good time and it keeps me engaged with the league.
The friendships that have come out of this league community are incredible, and I sincerely hope that they continue to flourish as much as they have. We're not even half way through Passarelli's career, so there's still plenty of time in this league ahead of me (plus new players and all that), so here's hoping things only continue to get better! Also, and lastly, I unironically love the sim for all it's weird quirks that it brings to the games. Don't get me wrong, it can frustrating, but it just wants to be understood. Can you blame it? |
