I always find myself drawn to this question, and given it's been a fair while since I've answered it in the offseason I feel like it's time once again to open this can of worms. Expansion is inherently an exciting process, wherein the ISFL gets to not only add a new team to the league but provides the opportunity for a new community to be brought together. However, for expansion to be successful there needs to fundamentally be the need for it, which is to say there needs to be a noticeable decline in the quality of the player experience due to the overly competitive race for places in ISFL rosters. I currently don't believe that this is the case, outside of the obviously more glamorous positions such as quarterback, and I am of the opinion that due to the ability of a player like myself to be called up to play in the ISFL as a true rookie at the cornerback position, there's an indication that the competition for players is less severe than it would be if expansion were to be viewed as a necessity. Expanding in a set of circumstances where it is not truly required can lead to rosters being spread too thin, teams being unable to field competitive rosters and would likely leave the team that's been added to the league struggling and unable to compete with the more established rosters. I feel like the ISFL as a league has always been highly capable of recruiting quality users at a good number and has done a very good job of being able to maintain the number of teams since its last expansion and avoid the need for a painful contraction process, but on the whole I think the league is in a stable and solid place, and that forcing through an expansion without the bottom line numbers requiring it would ultimately be a negative when it comes to the overall league experience.

I had been fairly set on creating a cornerback this time around, but as I'm a few seasons in it's interesting to look back and consider what other options might have been appealing. I had thought about trying to make a real run at a good offensive player, as I'm not sure why but every player that I've had in the league that's made an impact has been on the defensive side of the ball. Given that, it would be interesting to see how I might have done creating a running back. It's not a position that's appealed to me too much before when it's been time to create a player, but I think it could have been interesting to see how Devin Jones' career would have gone if he lined up in the backfield. It's the type of position that offers a lot of variety and allows for players to be utilised in different roles which would have been fun, so who knows, maybe when it comes to creating my next player (in many, many seasons time) the move will be to go to the running back spot and see what I can do there.
