Golden Ericksen here with the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. You ask about our mascot, you scalawags? Yes, we have one and the mascot is a mean-looking, seafaring pirate. He sports a pirate's hat and wears a face resembling a skull with red eyes. So, he's scary but the fact that he carries a surfboard under one arm and a lively parrot on his shoulder gives him a subtler tone and the kids and crowd love the dude. His name is Captain Wave. You will often find Captain Wave in the left field bleachers where there is a small pool that creates a wave and the Captain can be seen "riding the wave" on his surfboard. Eyes are drawn to this part of the outfield since Captain Wave is often surrounded by shimmering beach babes pirate queens who applaud his antics. Sometimes he is accompanied by a sea turtle hence the long slow walk over the dugout. The sea turtle though has a way of using his flippers to get the crowd clapping and cheering at the appropriate times. You couple that with the parrot singing and Captain Wave taking a shot of Captain Morgan and, well, you have a show, my little sea urchins.
