With only four weeks left in the regular season of season 4, the race to the playoffs is almost finished. In both the NSFC and ASFC, almost everything is up for grabs.
To start, the NSFC is very close, with both the Baltimore Hawks and Yellowknife Wraiths tied for first at 6-4. Nobody expected to see the Wraiths even close to the playoffs this season, yet they may just be able to do it if they continue on this path. However, the Liberty are right on both teams tail, at 4-6. The Liberty play both the Wraiths and Hawks in their final 4 games, and they have already played both teams once before beating both teams. If the Liberty can get two more wins, and sweep the Wraiths and Hawks, the Liberty are looking to be in prime position for the playoffs. They will have the tiebreaker over both teams, and an additional one win will likely allow them to make the playoffs. The Hawks have a tough schedule coming up, including road games against the Orange County Otter and the Arizona Outlaws. If they lose both of these games, which is very likely, then the Hawks may be on the outside looking in, and their week 14 game versus the Liberty will be very important. The Wraiths are actually in the best position currently to get the one seed. With games vs. the Sabercats, @Liberty, and vs. the Yeti, if they can simply win 2 out of 3 of these games, then they will have a great chance at the one seed! Who would have thought that a team written off as having a rebuilding year would be possibly looking at a home playoff game, and possibly their first Ultimus appearance. As always, the Yeti are completely irrelevant this season, however they did just make a splash by beating the Hawks in week 10 for their first win of the season, opening up the NSFC for the Wraiths to take. The main question is, would the Colorado Yeti be able to beat Alabama? My money would be on 'Bama.
In the ASFC, there is also three teams with playoff hopes. To start, the Outlaws are looking great once again. Although they have 2 road losses this season, overall they have looked as dominant as ever, and will almost assuredly claim the number 1 seed for the fourth year in a row, with their eyes on their fourth straight Ultimus. However, it gets very interesting when looking at the Otters and the Sabercats. The Sabercats have finally been able to make some noise in this league which is awesome for their organization. Former Wraiths quarterback Chris Orosz has led them on their journey this season to become a relevant team in the NSFL. Now, both the Otters and Sabercats are tied at 6-4 with 4 remaining weeks in the season, with the final showdown between the two teams occurring in week 14 in San Jose. The Otters have an easier schedule leading up to this game, but the Sabercats can afford to lose a game leading up to it, as long as they win the final game. Either way, that week 14 game will likely be a thriller and will decide if this will be the first season in NSFL history that the Orange County Otters will not make the playoffs.
The NSFL is shaping up to have a very exciting finish to season 4, and the increase in competitiveness and parity this season is an overall good thing for the league. It will be exciting to watch how the season pans out, and if the Outlaws will ultimately prevail for the 4th time in a row, or if a new team will beat them for their first Ultimus. Either way, it is sure to be exciting!
