I agree something has to be done but I feel like this isn't the right approach. It feels pretty drastic. Maybe only eliminating the automatic first downs if that's possible.

Sure but comparatively how often does that happen? Also it still leaves open the possibility of a 1st and 20 not becoming a 1st.
Overall I don't feel like the penalties are that outrageous or unrealistic, at least not in the NSFL. DSFL is different as players have much less intelligence and endurance.
1. Seems like a no brainer. People can change their weight for free, height makes sense.
2. Don't like this one. So few players can do it effectively I don't see it as a pressing issue. Seems like a solution in search of a problem. 3. Wow the SHL was right, we're giving out free TPE. Really don't see the need here either. Maybe a handful of jobs require enough time that 30 minutes to an hour a week on PTs is a bridge too far but without specific jobs mentioned I'm loathe to support this. 4. I like it. Bots are worse than users but will help when we inevitably have a trough in user kickers. 5. Not sure about this one without seeing the numbers behind it. If the sim testers are on board I am too but without those specifics I don't like it. Does this change turn two equally matched teams from 60/40 in favor of home to 55/45? 51/49? Does it change a 80/20 matchup to 60/40? 70/30? 6. Love this. In the sim the road team commits a ton more penalties than the home team. Additionally there isn't much of a correlation between TPE and Penalties. We know from manic's old post that away teams take about 17 more penalty yards per game than home teams, do we know what that would go down to with that change? What's the goal? I hate doing the "well the NFL does it this way so we should, too" thing since our sim engine is so different but as far as I can tell the home/away disparity in the NFL is 1.2 more penalties for 10.6 more yards in favor of the home team. That seems like a pretty reasonable number to me but I have no idea how that affects home field. |
