Winning the Championship - A Top Down Approach for Players
This write up will probably sound painfully obvious, but a top down approach gives the best road map on how to achieve a goal (in this case, winning the NSFL championship).
So starting at the top, your team must outscore the opposing team during the championship... However, before we can talk about winning this specific game, lets talk about how do you even get to the championship.
Before you can achieve greatness, your team will need to get through play-offs as well as make the play-offs by having a winning record during the regular season.
So overall, just win games... easy right? Well not so fast, now how does a team go about winning games?
To win a game, you need to outscore your opponent in the allocated time.
I'm not going to explain every rule of football, but I will explicitly state the scoring below.
Offense:
You can score by advancing the ball in to the end zone for a touchdown (Worth 6 points)
After a touchdown, you can then get to choose to attempt a field goal kick (Worth 1 point) or to re-advance the ball in to the end-zone (Worth 2 points)
Your team can also kick the ball through the field goal (Worth 3 points)
Defense:
Defense can also score in another method called a safety which is scored when a player causes the ball to become dead in his own end zone. (Worth 2 points)
Defensive players can also score touchdowns if they take possession of the ball.
It doesn't matter if your team wins 3-0 or 300-0, if you outscore your opponent. Your team won. This highlights that it's possible that your defense has scoring potential. For this reason, I think that defense is the most important aspect of your team and there is a running line in the NFL: "Defense Wins Championships." After watching the 2016 Denver Broncos carry the washed up Peyton Manning, there may be plenty of truth to that.
Now lets talk about the war that is football. Offense is your teams ability to score and Defense is your team's ability to prevent your opponent from scoring (and possibly score) via pick 6 or safeties).
On offense, To actually get a touchdown or a field goal, they will need to be in position where they can run or pass the ball in to the end-zone or be able to kick the ball through the goal.
To get to this point, they will need to move the ball and achieve first downs. Defense is trying to stop this or force them to turn the ball over by recovering fumbles or forcing interceptions.
Offense and defense can be designed in a variety of ways, there are many formations that highlight different play styles.
Now where do you come in? I think it would be best if you look up different formations and strategies if you are unfamiliar and then discuss your role with your team (on offense or defense).
Once you've figured out the role you need to perform, start pumping up the most relevant stats to achieve the best performance of that role.
Again, figure out the need on your team. If you are a running back who is on a team with a faster, more agile back that can catch better than you, maybe you should more hone your skills to be a short yardage FB style runner.
Or say you are a linebacker and all of the linemen on your team are really strong but not very quick, maybe you need to be a really fast and agile linebacker to get to the ball carrier quickly after the opposing offensive line gets demolished.
Understanding what you are trying to personally accomplish and what your team is trying to accomplish is the key to victory.
The best way to pump up relevant stats is to earn TPE. If two teams are identically except one quarterback has 25 more total TPE than the other, which team do you think will win? My money is on the QB with more stats.
In conclusion, the best way to win the championship is, earn as much TPE as possible, spend it in a way that fulfills your team's need which in turn will help your team win games.
