Ben Waters here, thankfully we have the opportunity to sit down with Alex Selich the Linebacker from Germany who was drafted by the Kansas City Coyotes in the S10 DSFL Entry Draft in the 3rd round, #10 overall.
So without further ado we will start the interview.
Ben Waters: So Alex what made you declare for the DSFL Draft in the first place?
Alex Selich: Obviously it's because of my older brother. He played in the NSFL for a few seasons and was a highly touted Player coming into the inaugural S1 Draft and was drafted really high. If I remember correctly he was drafted in the first round by the San Jose SaberCats but he was too satisfied with his performance and didn't improve much after the first few weeks.
So I felt the need to undo the wrongdoings of my older brother and let the NSFL community now what kind of play they can expect to see when they hear the name Selich.
Ben Waters: Do you think your brothers bad NSFL legacy will effect you in terms of your draft position or something else?
Alex Selich: I think it might definitely impact my draft stock because a few GM's would love to pick a player who is a bit less risky but I am here to prove the doubters wrong and become a dominant linebacker in the NSFL. At the end of the day I am just happy to be drafted and keep improving my skills so that I can be a good player for my team.
Ben Waters: You already talked about wanting to be a dominant linebacker. What exactly do you mean with that statement?
Alex Selich: I just envision myself to be a a great inside linebacker who is quite balanced and able to do everything fairly well. I would prefer to play for a team that plays quite a bit of 4-3 defense but then again I am open to play in other defensive schemes too , 4-3 is just the one I am most comfortable in.I don't want to be a liability defending the pass on the other hand I want to be great against rushing situations and being able to sack the Quarterback. I know that this will take some time but I am definitely willing to put in the work for it and see my hard work in practice translate to good plays on the field that can impact my team's chances to win.
Ben Waters: Do you already have any preferences in terms of Draft destinations?
Alex Selich: None at all. I haven't really looked at the needs of the NSFL teams. I also don't really plan on doing it. I am just happy to be drafted I don't care if I will be an immediate starter or sit behind a more experienced player that already knows all the plays and is further along in his development. There are a ton of good players in my draft class. Right now I'd say I am close to the top 5 in terms of overall skill or TPE how the NSFL Community calls it. Tee players currently in front of me are: Lennox Garnett my teammate in Kansas City, Antonio Summer and Kwame Abayomi Mbanefo from the Portland Pythons. There are also a few other players who aren't quite as developed as I am but they are represented by Agencies that already had successful NSFL players. I don't really expect myself to overtake anyone but who knows what the future holds. I expect myself to steadily improve each season but I honestly don't know if I will be able to buy the best possible equipment each season.
Ben Waters: Are you satisfied with your performance in the DSFL so far?
Alex Selich: It's not that I am disappointed but I just wish that a few interceptions or fumbles didn't happen. Like in the game against Norfolk. The interception return by Cain Jablonski allowed the Seawolves to come back and defeat us. I'd say it was definitely the turning point of the game.
Other than that game the one against the Pythons was also closer than the boxscore let's you assume. We had 2 costly fumbles that were recovered by the Pythons. One was especially painful because it was close to the goalline. So all in all I am satisfied with my own personal performance. Recently I was able to force a fumble but sadly I wasn't able to recover it. Things like that remind me to improve everyday on the practice field so that I can perform better on game day.
Ben Waters: Thank you for the interview. That's it for today!
