I wrote this a long time ago, but considering Kolbe is still taking unwarranted jabs at me even though I'm inactive, he can eat a big fat dick.
There are two kinds of people in the world.
Someone that tries to argue against the best version of another person's argument giving them the benefit of the doubt, and then their are people that will twist a miss-communicated argument just to "win" in any way possible.
I believe Kolbe to be the latter of this in the worst possible way.
Kckolbe trash talked me constantly for a head office ruling, (in which I voted in a way that was much more aligned with what Kolbe wanted). Unfortunately I was out voted and then no other head office members were available to announce the verdict. I posted the ruling and a vocal minority were not thrilled about it. Kolbe included.
I tried to defend the HO ruling, however since I did not vote that way, I wasn't as good at articulating the counter point. Because of this Kolbe continued bringing everything back to my "bad" argument instead of trying to provide a better discussion or doing anything productive for the league. It really was just trash talk on a personal level saying I was unfit for head office and shouldn't get "paid" for being HO.
At the time, Head office was not a paid position... yeah. I couldn't really counter this point because he was saying most of these things in ways that I could not defend myself (behind my back in a private locker room or specifically to other people via discord).
Overall, He's just an abrasive person that once he made his mind up about you, he will just continually belittle you.
He was also the GM of a developmental league team that got a lot of those players on board with the trash talk. I found out about this through animosity from those players as well as a teammate of mine saying "I don't really know why kolbe hates you, but he sure does" after the two spoke privately.
The personal attacks never really stopped. No matter what I did next it was wrong and fuel for his bullshit.
So lets recap. He thought I was the worst head office member and shouldn't be paid because of a ruling that was made. (A ruling that I did not vote in favor of but had to enforce, while not being paid.)
Now to refute this. You might be thinking, hey maybe you are a bad head office member?
At the time, I was the only head office member working on a really big problem that the league was having.
There were not enough players playing the offensive line position to actually have fair and balanced sims. I worked with Timeconsumer and came up with a very good solution to this problem which allowed players wanting to be OL, to still be OL. It also allowed for customization and strategy from GMs as well as budgeting constraints. It was really a simple, deep and elegant solution.
I stand by saying the OL changes are easily in the top 3 most positive things the head office have ever done for the entire league. I also got this implemented while being incredibly sick for a week with the flu.
I cared about the league and spent a lot of time and energy wanting it to succeed.
Another time I really stepped up was when our simmer went rogue and I stepped up to sim and stream the championship (Ultimus) game. I had never streamed before, and I had to delay some personal plans but to me it was worth it because this league was important to me.
Anyways, back to Kolbe and why he is a huge prick, Another example:
Kolbe made a bet against another player, "that the other player's team wouldn't win a game for a season".
The loser of the bet had to go play for the other person's team. Myself nor most of the head office were in head office when this bet first was made.
Well turns out that a tight end had extra attributes which possibly impacted Kolbe losing this bet. I'd also like to note that this bet started because Kolbe was trash talking this other GM non-stop. The GM didn't have much success from a GMing stand point but that still doesn't give anyone the right to act like that. We are here to have fun and be in a pretend football league.
Anyways, the head office quickly voted that any bet like this was a TERRIBLE idea. The entire idea of a sim league is allowing players to have the freedom to make their own decisions on where they sign or what to do in Free Agency.
Also, the end result of this bet is one team getting both of the players, to stack talent on one team vs. having a league with parity and fair teams. Overall it was absolutely garbage from conception to ending.
We vetoed the bet and specifically stated, that Kolbe could still do whatever he wanted, so if he felt the need to honor the bet, he could hit free agency and demand to go to Las Vegas, however there is no way that head office would enforce a bet so asinine.
Now for the classic Kolbe response. Instead of taking responsibility for creating a toxic environment, an unfair bet, or trash talking this other GM, he just doubles down continuing to trash talk the head office, the decision and specifically me. This again makes no sense considering he still had the personal liberty to do whatever the hell he wanted with this bet after the ruling.
I'll add one last thing.
Later on he specifically violated a rule because he wanted to make an example of how the ruling wasn't harsh enough. Which again was absolutely insane given the information that the head office had.
We were pursuing someone for cheating on so many different levels, and we needed a lot more time to get it right.
So we had concrete information on one of the crimes and then punished him for it. Most other people in the sim league new that he was doing much worse so when he got such a slap on the wrist, people were pissed. I get it, but it wasn't
The problem was he was going to get punished for all of that other stuff, we just needed more time to get all of the details and facts straight.
While this is happening, Kolbe decides to become a martyr, break the rule and say this ruling isn't harsh enough. So then we had to hand out the same punishment to him and spend time doing that instead of finishing looking in to the other rules being broken by the previous person.
He definitely has good qualities as a player, is passionate and can put in work for a sim league... But he has had a very negative impact on me with sim leagues.
Interacting with people like him is the reason I stepped down from HO and I don't take this league serious as I have before all of this happened. Having to deal with personal attacks and resulting stress was definitely not worth it for me compared to any fun I was having in the sim league.
All in all, I hope this can explain the differences between prime time Dan Miller vs semi (now inactive) 7hawk77.
and I hope I never have to interact with him long term.
I'm out.
