Welcome to the first edition of Dizzy’s week in review where I will be focusing on what occurred for my present team in the past week of simulations. The Kansas City Coyotes definitely had a tough schedule coming down the stretch of the season, but they managed to succeed in a spectacular fashion. The team ended up going 2-0 with wins over the San Antonio Marshals and Portland Pythons, both of which were extraordinarily important wins as they helped to vault Kansas City into first place in the NFC North to close out the season. Let’s now take a closer look at those 2 games.
San Antonio Marshals @ Kansas City Coyotes
This was definitely a match up that everyone was looking forward to. San Antonio sported the best record in the DSFL, but Kansas City was looking to avenge their previous matchup with the Marshals in which they lost 17-7. Both teams came out with strong rushing attacks with the Marshals being led by Fast Boija who ran for 132 yards on 33 attempts, while Kansas City was led by Corwin Davenport who ran for 110 yards on 23 attempts. The big difference in this game was Kansas City’s quarterback, Rose Jenkins, throwing for nearly 100 more yards than San Antonio quarterback, Zenyou Wozy, to set up 3 field goals for Alfredo Crisco. Additionally, Jenkins was able really spread the ball around the field managing to hit 8 different receivers including rookie tight end, Chase Jensen, who hauled in 3 catches for 13 yards in his first professional outing. On defense, Kansas City was led by linebacker, True Pierce, who had 10 tackles and linebacker, Jaren Haden, who had 6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 passes defended, and 1 interception. On the other side of the ball, San Antonio was led by safety, Bass Reeves, who had 9 tackles and 1 sack and linebacker, Jon Gott, who had 8 tackles.
Final Score: Kansas City 16 – San Antonio 10
Kansas City Coyotes @ Portland Pythons
This match up was to determine who was going to get first place in the NFC North as both teams entered the game with identical records. Both quarterbacks struggled to get things going in this game. Kansas City quarterback, Rose Jenkins, went 17/30 for 206 yards with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Portland quarterback, Caleb McCoy, did not fair any better completing 17/29 passes for 179 yards with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. This game was determined by the superior run game of Kansas City. Corwin Davenport and James Wade combined for 185 yards on 33 attempts, while Davenport knocked it into the endzone twice. Beauregard Smallwood-Chess ran for 118 yards on 29 attempts with 1 touchdown. Kansas City was once again led by linebacker, True Pierce, on defense who accumulated 11 tackles and 1 tackle for loss while the Portland Pythons were led by linebacker, David Ginsberg, who had identically 11 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Duffield Craik grabbed both interceptions for the Portland Pythons, while Poole and Bohne each grabbed one for the Kansas City Coyotes.
Final Score: Kansas City 17 – Portland Pythons 10
All-in-all, 2 excellent games from the Kansas City Coyotes this week in which they were defensively stout and did just enough on offense to get the job done. As mentioned previously, these 2 wins put Kansas City ahead of Portland to close out the season. San Antonio are still the likely favorites to win the championship, but Kansas City has the hot hand right now winning 5 of their last 6 games and handing San Antonio 2 of their 3 losses on the season.
