After graduating from the University of San Diego, it has been a long wait for linebacker Johnny Slothface getting back to football. Slothface suffered an injury in the Toreros' opening round FCS playoff game, and he struggled to get healthy in his rehab. Largely due to the lack of name recognition in the professional ranks, and no doubt hampered by this injury, Johnny went undrafted in the DSFL draft and he was left on his couch pondering what was next for his future. After a week of brooding, Slothface picked himself up and was able to complete his injury rehab. Unfortunately for Slothface, the DSFL was already deep into its season.
Undeterred and feeling truly healthy for the first time in years, Johnny Slothface submitted his paperwork to the DSFL to apply to join their player ranks for the remainder of Season 13. After some tense moments during the league's entrance physical, Slothface was cleared and accepted into the DSFL as a free agent, and he then had to pass through a 24 hour waiver period. Johnny waited anxiously by his phone for the message to come through once the waiver period expired. And finally Slothface got the news he was waiting for: he was going to be a Tijuana Luchadore for the remainder of the 13th Season.
Slothface was very excited by his new destination. While attending the University of San Diego, Slothface told media that he spent "plenty of time down in Tijuana, so it was a sort of homecoming for [him]." When asked to elaborate on his time spent south of the border, Slothface was less forthcoming with information, and Johnny largely tried to change the subject. An inquiry with the Tijuana Police Department is still pending regarding any potential run-ins with the law that Slothface may have had. If you have any information about Johny's history in Mexico please reach out, we will protect your confidentiality.
After so much time out of actual organized practice, Johnny found himself having to work a lot of rust off of his game. Slowly he was able to get back to his old self on the field, and Slothface ultimately made his debut in week 13 of S13:

This game saw the Lucadores go on the road to Palm Beach to steal a win away from the Solar Bears. The Solar Bears led this low scoring affair 10-0 going into halftime, thanks to a touchdown pass from Ethan Whitworth to David Okuju, and a 31 yard field goal from Lucas Picarello. The Luchadores would rally with two second half touchdowns, both Corvo Harvan strikes to the endzone caught by Brett Tacony and Nate Swift. The Luchadores defense was able to support the Tijuana air attack by shutting out the Solar Bears in the second half of the game.
Johnny Slothface largely spent the game distributing water to his teammates, but he did see limited action in his first DSFL game. The Luchadores had just scored their first touchdown, giving them their first points of the game. After a Tijuana punt landed inside the Palm Beach five yard line, the Solar Bears were hungry to answer the Luchadore score. Knox scampered for a quick 9 yards to open the series, giving the Solar Bears some breathing room from the end zone. After an incomplete pass, the Luchadores made some quick defensive substitutions, and Slothface ended up on the field staring at a key third and one yard to go for the Bears. Could he make the stop and keep the Solar Bears pinned back?
The ball was snapped with Whitworth again looking to pass for the first. He eyed Washington who was set up just past the first down marker and fired a pass. Johnny Slothface broke on Washington, arriving at the same time as the ball and.........
Catch and a first down.
But Slothface made the first tackle of his DSFL career and came out of the game healthy, largely due to not playing many snaps. Johnny was extremely happy the team came away with a win in his first appearance with Tijuana. Johnny's second game unfortunately didn't go as well, with the Luchadores dropping a road game to the Seawolves thanks to a fourth quarter touchdown run by Luther Kingsley. Slothface felt more comfortable, and ended up registering 4 tackles and a sack. You could tell it was his first career sack as his sack dance definitely needs some work:
Inspired by his improving play, Johnny has his eye towards the upcoming DSFL playoffs with Tijuana. He's hoping his recent speed training can improve his contributions to the squad. Slothface also is keeping the looming DSFL Draft in the back of his mind, as these playoffs will also be an audition to all the DSFL scouts looking to find a solid linebacker for their team next season.
