Having finished his senior year, Walt Green is looking to play in the DSFL and eventually the NSFL. Green spent five years playing at Boise State University. His first year he was redshirted and his second he was the backup safety. Finally, during spring training going into his sophomore year, he won the starting job.
The over the next three seasons Walt started 36 out of 40 games. That includes three conference championship games and three bowl games. Boise State won 2 of the conference titles and all three of the bowl games, including a Fiesta Bowl victory. The 4 games Walt missed were due to concussion concerns during his junior year. He finished his college career with 127 solo tackles, 8 interceptions, and 1 Def TD.
Walt grew up in Kuna, Idaho. He is extremely excited about this next step in his life. With no professional teams in Idaho, Walt says his family always cheered for the Portland Pythons. Even though his ultimate goal is to play in the NSFL, Walt thinks it would be awesome to play for Portland during his time in the DSFL.
Taking a look at Walt's film and his physical abilities the skill that stands out is his speed. He is fast for a player entering the DSFL, he will be able to fly all over the field and run down most ball carriers. In college, that speed helped masked his lack of strength, poor tackling, and weak hands. If he really wants to prove he belongs in the DSFL or even the NSFL, he will have to continue to outrun his opponents while also building those other skill areas.
Fortunately that natural speed Green has should help him easily stand out in this seasons crowded safety class that features 11 other prospects for the position. Currently, only two other safeties are faster than him and based on what I hear of his work ethic I don't expect Green to remain behind.
