Brock Landers is a polarizing figure. In college, he was a guy who absolutely loved to party. He was hit with an underage drinking citation and I'm sure many other times he just wasn't caught. Landers also motorboated a cheerleader after a bowl win but her and Landers were in an on off relationship(they hooked up like twice, says Landers) and she didn't press charges and was amused by the whole situation. He is also very outspoken, I'd describe his interviews and his open letter to the GMs as a combination of Baker Mayfield's confidence and Jalen Ramsey's trash talk. He also really seems to dislike Franklin Armstrong, which is kind of fair because they're from rival colleges and he's been complete garbage so far outside of one game. While this has caused a lot of the people around me to dislike him, I can't help but respect his swagger and confidence. Landers seems to be adored by his old teammates at Tennessee, but his Prospect Bowl teammates don't know him that well yet. He also has a lot of talent. His arm talent is one of a kind, he has a cannon and throws great spirals. He reminds me a bit of Brett Favre as a guy who tries to extend plays out of the pocket for the better or the worse. And up until the game against the Cobras(I'll get to his performance eventually) his Foxes were undefeated. And up until the Cobras game you could argue he had the best stats in the Prsopect Bowl. Landers still far and away leads the prospect bowl in yards and for a guy who's known as a bit of a gunslinger, his completion percentage is a passable 53%. He has only thrown 3 TDs but his team was winning so it's not a big deal, as long as he pumps that up once he hits DSFL level. Now, unfortunately, it's time to talk about the Cobras game.
In a seemingly winnable game against a mediocre Cobras team, Landers absolutely imploded. He threw 4 picks and 3 went for touchdowns. The safety duo of McKinnie and Williams VII had one each and Emoji had one as well. This shows the downside of Landers. Sometimes extending plays can lead to interceptions and easy sacks if he gets run down by a linebacker or quick DE. I have seen Landers put in work to increase speed. Brock looked to be forcing throws in the Cobras game and getting in a hole early didn't help. It was the first time I'd seen him look less confident in a game., but he was still out there slinging it. That's his main plus side, that he won't really mentally check out and lose his team a game by giving up or getting into his own head. He still got them down the field for a late touchdown for some pride and the score could've been worse. I also overheard him trying to motivate and cheer up his guys in the tunnel and I really respect that. Personally, I think there's quite a few team who could use a guy like Brock Landers. When you win, he's gonna celebrate, when you lose he won't lose confidence. He's the leader a young team wants.
All in all, I think Landers is a fine football talent who could develop into a superstar. His decision making isn't there yet but all the arm talent is, as is the leadership. Once he gets his TPE up, he'll be an absolute force as long as he stays on the field and away from underage drinking and DUIs.
Ceiling: Brett Favre
Floor: Ryan Leaf, especially with potential for off the field problems.
