[div align=\\\"center\\\"]"Up next, with pick number 38 - the Solar Bears select Michael Rood, a tight end from the University of Minnesota."
"This is a good pick!"
"Yeah, this is really good."
"I thought this guy could be a steal in Round 7 or Round 8 - and it looks like the Solar Bears caught on. Good on them for the pick!"[/div]

Rood was all smiles as he hung up the phone. The call was from Chet Tannen, general manager of the Palm Beach Solar Bears, informing Rood that he had been selected to join their roster for the upcoming season. Rood opened the sealed package on the coffee table to reveal a Solar Bears jersey, and his family went wild - cheering, celebrating, and crying.

Michael Rood chose not to attend the DSFL draft in person. The eclectic event was something Rood had looked forward to attending, but decided to forego to instead be with his family.
"My family has been with me since Day 1. Their support has meant more to me than any kind of accolades from the public that I'd receive at the DSFL draft."
"From what I saw at the Prospect Bowl, the Solar Bears were the only team that any real interest in me. Both Chet Tannen and his co-GM reached out to me during the tournament and expressed interest in me, gave me some tips and honestly they were just great guys. When no other teams reached out, I kinda knew I was heading to Palm Beach - it was just a matter of when."
Rood was selected with the 38th pick in the draft, the second pick of the seventh round. Palm Beach had previously traded a pick in next year's draft for a second 6th round pick this year, making Rood the 8th player selected by the Solar Bears. He joined Rock Hardshaft, Chase Jensen, Apollo Lange, Ben Bortboy, Guy Nikko, Fatih Terim, and LaMont McKinnie as the Palm Beach selections (up until that point in the draft).
Rood was thrilled to join his former Atlantic Blackbirds teammates in Palm Beach.
"I'm excited - just really excited, man! Getting to play with Rock and Apollo again is something I'm really looking forward to. I think we were getting something really special going in the Prospect Bowl, and I'm hoping we can build on that moving forward."
The Solar Bears also selected Chase Jensen and Dan Wright at the tight end position. Asked if he minded that he wasn't the only tight end drafted by Palm Beach, Rood said:
"Honestly, I'm fine with it. There have been a few discussions with the Solar Bears staff and myself, and I'm totally comfortable in the system they have designed. I will do whatever they need me to in order for us to be successful. I'm looking forward to getting to Palm Beach so we can get to work!"

Rood stepped off the plane in Palm Beach, a bit sweaty from the afternoon sun. Asked how he planned to acclimate to the Palm Beach area, Rood laughed.
"Yeah, it is a pretty big change coming down from Minnesota. Way hotter here, obviously, but that's just something I'm gonna have to get used to. I'm not terribly worried about it. The biggest thing on my mind right now is finding a spot to get some good seafood - you can probably guess that it's not widely available in Minnesota [laughs], so I'm excited to be in a place where it's abundant and fresh. And yeah, afterwards I'm heading to the Solar Bears facility - get myself organized and ready for the season."
Rood headed off to his baggage claim terminal, wearing clothes that suggested he was heading to the gym earlier than implied. Time will tell how Rood can adjust to the DSFL, but he appears ready for the challenge.
