The NSFL season is over. The final stats have been tallied. Who will take home the hardware? Will Micycle McCormick throw bombs all over his competition? Will Childish Gambino or Marquise Brown leapfrog McCormick? Can Gus T.T. Showbiz pull out another monstrous game and insert himself amongst the frontrunners? Can Joliet L. Christ revert to his early-season form and make himself a contender again? And what about a defender like Alex Selich? Let's find out, and to change things up, let's go from the bottom to the top, to keep the suspense up.
6. Wraiths LB Alex Selich (Prev.: 6th) (@Tomen)
So, Alex Selich didn't make the jump that I thought he'd need to do to make himself anything besides a dark horse in this race. He did what he's been doing all season. He recorded one sack in both of his last two games, bringing his streak of games with a sack to nine, and his total on the season to 17. Very respectable, and good enough to lead the league this season. He also had nine tackles and three deflections in his Week 14 match against San Jose. A very solid performance to cap off a very good season for Selich.
5. Sabercats QB Joliet L. Christ (Prev.: 5th) (@`AndrewWarren13`)
And so ends a season that started out so promising for Joliet L. Christ but ended so disappointingly. Christ's rushing numbers fell off so dramatically after such a hot start, that even though his passing stats aren't bad per se, they do feel like a legit downgrade. His Week 13 game against Philadelphia was quite a good showing, 24/40 for 302 yards, two scores and no picks is definitely a performance to be proud of. And despite his passing numbers dropping for Week 14, his rushing numbers were solid, picking up 57 yards on ten carries. Christ's season will be remembered for some fantastic days on the ground and some efficient throwing of the ball, but I don't think it'll be an MVP season.
4. Otters QB Gus T.T. Showbiz (Prev.: 4th) (@Molarpistols)
It was going to be really hard for Gus T.T. Showbiz to top that amazing performance in Week 12, but he sure did his best to try. Week 13 saw Showbiz go 20/41 for 373 yards, two touchdowns, and one pick. Very good numbers, especially for how few completions there were there. The next week, he went 21/41 for 314 yards, three scores and a pick. I think this late season stretch has been enough to vault Showbiz into the final MVP discussion. He finished the season with 38 passing touchdowns, which led the league and wasn't far behind King Bronko's all-time NSFL record of 44. He also finished third in both passing yards and passer rating, and his Otters finishing the season tied for the best record in the league at 11-3. Their chances at a three-peat are looking pretty good.
3. Yeti QB Micycle McCormick (Prev.: 1st) (@infinitempg)
Well, he got to 5000 yards on the season, although those last two games made it look like that was the only thing he was trying to get. He got his fifth 400 yard game of the season in Week 13, going 31/55 for 408 yards, but he threw four costly interceptions, and only scored once. And his Week 14 wasn't any better. 24/52 for 321 yards, one touchdown, and three picks. But, he finished the season with 5007 yards, which obviously led the league, but he also led the league in interceptions with 18. I was fully prepared to crown McCormick if he hit 5000 yards, but not like this. He still has a chance, but I think it's more likely that a Baltimore player will get it. Speaking of...
2. Hawks RB Marquise Brown (Prev.: 3rd) (@YoungTB)
Somehow, Marquise Brown didn't lead the league in rushing, but I'd say he was still the best running back in the league, because of what those yards amounted to. He was playing in those last two weeks like he knew he had a shot at the MVP, and he definitely made himself a front runner. He racked up 137 rushing yards and 54 receiving yards in Week 13 against Arizona, and 152 rushing yards and 52 receiving yards in Week 14 against Philadelphia. He scored twice in both games and tallied nine receptions in both games. He finished the season only three yards behind Slim Shady for the rushing title, but he also scored 16 rushing touchdowns. No one else finished in double digits. That was a pretty good regular season finale, but the man in the top spot had a finale for the ages.
1. Hawks QB Childish Gambino (Prev.: 2nd) (@Renrut)
That was a direct quote from Gambino after Week 12. Showbiz was climbing, McCormick was on fire, even his teammate Brown was on his bumper. But he cemented himself as the league's best quarterback this season with an amazing conclusion to the season. Week 13 was pretty darn good for Childish, going 32/49 for 389 yards, four touchdowns and one interception against Arizona. But surely he wouldn't top that performance, right? Wrong. Week 14, vs. Philadelphia, Gambino killed the Liberty. 30/33 (only three incompletions!), 400 yards, six touchdowns, and one pick. It was the kind of performance that'll be prominently featured in his Hall of Fame package when he finally hangs them up. He's second in the league both pass yards and touchdowns, while he's first in completion percentage (only person above 60%) and passer rating (only person above 100). If I had an MVP vote, I'd vote for Gambino, and if anyone can derail an Orange County dynasty, it's Gambino.
