Ready to be graded
Today comes the DSFL Pro Bowl, an interesting game to see the best of both conferences go face to face in an effort to prove who has the better prospects. Let's look at some of the key matchups that we'll have tonight.
The Battle of the QBs
It's going to be interesting how Armstrong and Bigsby perform. This time they'll have some help by being surrounded with the best WRs/TEs from their respective conferences. Their face off was very much expected in the Ultimini but Tijuana had something to said about it. For this game, I'm going to give the edge to the MVP of this season (seriously, he'll need a new shelf on his wall to put all his shiny trophies) even though he didn't have one of his better showings during the playoffs (in 2 games he had 402 yards, 3 TDs and 4 Interceptions) but did enough to secure a title. Bigsby has all the opportunity to convince us otherwise because he was second to Armstrong in most of the passing stats, with the exception of yards. There's another factor that could help to boost the performance of this two and that's in the next matchup that I'll briefly write about.
Sensational WRs/TEs vs Superstar DBs
You could say that one of things that was the most talked about during the season was the defensive plays and you have to give credit for this to an amazing class of defensive back prospects. Now will they be able to hold up against a bunch of the finests WRs/TEs to come into the league? Lets see some stats for this.
For the NFC we have the tandem of Bona'beri Jones, Ahri Espeeyeeseetee and Brock Landers at WR, with Cameron Olsen at TE, going against SFC safeties Walt Green, Troy Humuhumunukunukuapua'a and Fatih Terim, with Vander Jones and Deon Taylor at CB. Bona'beri Jones was the best wide receiver of the league in every category and it wasn't close to the 2nd place; he’ll make a great team up with Espeeyeeseetee, who was the best wide receiver for his team and the 3rd best of the league. Of course, don't forget about Landers he may come up as a surprising addition in 3 WRs sets. Finally we have Olsen, who doesn't have as many yards as the great Chase Jasen but proved to be a reliable red zone target with 3 TDs in the season. These guys will have a hard time facing the number 1 and 2 best defenders of the season in safety Walt Green and cornerback Vander Jones. Both ended up with a total of 15 interceptions, 2 touchdowns and 34 passes defended. What a nasty combo, they'll look to punish any mistake made by the offense.
On the other side we have the SFC WRs Nacho Varga and Rod Tidwell, with Chase Jensen at TE. Tidwell was the 2nd best wide receiver in the league and Varga made the most out of his situation by being the 2nd best WR of his team behind Jensen, the number 1 TE of the league. They'll go against a very balanced NFC pool of players in safeties Logan Uchiha and Richard D'Attoria V with Lucas Knight, Emondov Emoji and Xerxes Ridley at cornerback. The DBOY Uchiha can do it all with a season totals of 103 tackles, 10 TFL, 3 sacks, 7 passes defended, 6 interceptions and 2 touchdowns. Couple that with D'Attoria V roaming around QBs (7 sacks in the season) and you have a dynamic duo. Then you have the cornerback with the most speed in the DSFL, Emoji, and 2 solid prospects to pair with him in Ridley (50 tackles, 1 interception and 11 passes defended) and Knight (78 tackles, 5 interceptions, 1 touchdown and 13 passes defended). I'll give the win to the NFC on this one, they have a more balanced group on both sides of the ball.
Explosive run game vs stud LBs
If the passing game is going to be a true battle, guess who's going to steal the show? We have a strong running back and linebacker classes, so let's put some stats to analyze how will they do.
The NFC tandem of RBs Dorfus Jimbo, Apollo Reed, Kermit Stronglegs and Terry Taffy are facing SFC linebackers Johnny Slothface, Quentin Bode, Guy Nikko, Tony Gabagool and Rock Hardshaft. Norfolk’s duo Jimbo and Reed where an important part of why the expansion team was able to claim a playoff spot. Since they both share reps during the entire season, their individual numbers aren't the best but the pair managed to earned an appearance in the top 10 rushing yards. Behind them Taffy had a tough season but he can be a reliable target on the passing attack, as proved by his 2nd most passing yards by a running back. They'll have a hard time going against the LBOY Johnny Slothface (2nd most tackles during the season), a solid LB in Quentin Bode (6 sacks, 6 passes defended during the season) and Guy Nikko who has the most sacks in the league.
On the other side we have SFC RBs Morgan Marshall, Forest Gump, Ludicolo Bigby and Ben Bortboy against NFC LBs Leighton Lee, Gekyume Stokeley, Marquees Acho, Lanzer Grievous and Lightsout Lewis. The number 1 RB Marshall (most rushing yards, 2nd most TDs in the season) it's a as explosive as they come, the same can be said about Gump (most TDs this season); together, I don't see how could you stop them. And that task is up to Lee and Stokeley, one of the best LB duos in the league; also Acho is a highlight here, his stats show he's effective against both the run and the pass. The win goes to the SFC this time, their running backs are too talented to be ignored.
Bonus: who gets to improve their draft stock
With some flashy plays in this game, we should pay a little bit of attention to the following prospects, maybe they get to impress or manage to convince a few GMs of how much they are worth it to be selected sooner in the upcoming draft.
RB Forrest Gump
Gump is a very solid prospect if you ask me, and his 18 TDs in the season are proof of that. But every time I talk about who’s the number 1 running back, the answer is almost the same: Morgan Marshall. Well have the two sharing the backfield, but with some TDs or a long run I’m sure Gump will gain his place in the 1st round.
RB Apollo Reed
Reed may not be mention as much as the previous guy, but trust me when I tell you he’s a great option to improve your backfield. The fact that he could gain stats alongside his teammate Jimbo tells us something. He can be more impressive with some plays in this game.
DT AJ Lattimer
Lattimer is quietly improving and the Ultimini just gave him a boost in his stock and confidence. Some sacks here may catch the attention of some, and he surely deserves another look in a position highly in demand.
LB Marquees Acho
With such a big class of linebackers, Acho may be lost in the bunch. He surely deserves more recognition being the heart of Norfolk's defense. Someone is going to find one of the most reliable defensive players in later rounds, unless Acho has more impressive plays to show us tonight.
S Logan Uchiha
What more can I say about Uchiha? His campaign for DROY was amazing as well as his season stats. He has earned the right to be a 1st round pick but I just haven't seen him in there on some mocks. If he shines here,
WR Nacho Varga
The Solar Bears had a tough season due to being an expansion team and most of their picks
didn't pan out as expected. But on the offense, Varga was a bright spot that deserves more looks. Who knows, maybe he gets to catch some good passes in this game and we see him bounce in the draft ranks.
LB Guy Nikko
Another top performer for the Solar Bears, Nikko is a QB killing machine. Just watch him get a sack today and he’ll prove that we will hear his name a lot in the NSFL sacks department in the not so distant future.
CB Deon Taylor
There are not many cornerbacks available for this draft and Taylor has a great opportunity here to prove that can be as good as the top guys. An interception may help his stock rise, even a ton of passes defended can do the trick.
RB RKANSAW N/A
Even though he's going to be playing on special teams, RKANSAW has been a very reliable RB for Portland and he rightfully deserves to be in the conversation of top RBs. He’ll look to put on a show on the returning side and rise his draft stock.
