Preparing for the draft I came in loud and arrogant. I had to so my name was out there but I also planned to back up the talk as well. I was training and preparing for my future, for what I’d prepared for my whole life, the draft. Along the way I met some wonderful guys that I will truly call brothers. They’ve helped me out tremendously and I can’t name them all because there is to many but I wanna speak on my brothers Saba and Bubba.
Without these guys idk if I’d be drafted, be a workout demon or be here, but I am and I thank them. It started when I busted into Thumpers presser, I was just trying to add excitement and some controversy into the process. It turned into a awesome experience that I’m glad I got to do with him. I was hoping we’d end up on the same team but fate had other plans.
Sitting in the green room with them and seeing him picked so highly I felt a few different emotions. First was happiness, for my brother was getting a high draft slot close to his home. Secondly was anger, not at him but the teams passing me over. As he got up to walk to the stage he told me” Keep your head up, it’s coming”. So I waited and waited for my name. It would be awhile.
Then my guy Saba, what to say. This guy put the work in and went top 5. I kinda expected to be below him and at the time I hadn’t had much interaction with him. Since being drafted together though we got a tight friendship off the jump and decided we will be the best duo. We push each other daily in practice and hangout in free time. He makes me want to be a better WR. Who knows what our career paths will be but I know one thing. If that man calls me say or night I’m there. That’s my guy.
So sitting in the green room, wr after wr leaving until I was the last person watching, my anger grew and grew. I wanted to leave but people said it would look bad on me, so I stayed. My hands sweating from rubbing them together, my anger barely contained. I started getting texts from friends and relatives then Bubba texted me. He said” no matter where or when your drafted, and you will be, you will do very big things.” That calmed me down some. I knew my time was coming. Right before the announcement I got a text from Saba, not sure how he got my number still lol. It said welcome to the Pythons, now let’s get to work and make everyone else regret this.”
My jaw dropped and then the call from coach was unreal. I was excited and ecstatic. I was crying, say something I dare you, and unable to speak. At #24 I was finally picked. Almost last of the WR. I texted Saba and Bubba to try to get us all together and thank them for the support and encouragement. I won’t say publicly anything about the rest of the night, they know and have the memories as well. I will say this though... Brothers for life.
Thanks for reading and enjoy more stories later from Jackson.
