Ladies and gentleman, welcome, my name is Zerin Nandrews.
Remember NCAA 11? No? Great, then I totally came up with this! On my own!
This is Thoroughfare to Glory (TTG)!! Our network, ESPNFSL, decided to chose one prospect from Season 18 and follow his day by day struggles through the years, on his roa.. sorry... THOROUGHFARE TO GLORY!!
Our NSFL/DSFL specialist Dirk Kerbstreit went to Lisbon, Portugal and had a little chat with the biggest football prospect coming out of Portugal since Columbus and his fleet. 18yo, 6.3’’, 215lbs (192cm and 98kg in real world units), he’s not your prototype QB, mainly because he never played a single snap on his lifetime. Still, that’s something Nathan Peterman did and look what happened? Today we find Jay “The Portuguese Phenom” Cue working hard at his home gym, getting some gainz, waiting for the DSFL Draftday.
DK – Hi Jay, thanks for having us here. Love your place, the red light really spruces up the place.
JC – Thanks Dirk, I find that the red light helps me focus on my training. Besides, the lights were left by the previous tenants, 2 really nice south american ladies, aswell as the pole on the middle of the living room. Maybe this was a fire department building, i don’t know. But they were really cool, so cool that they left like 6 months ago and i still have people ringing the door in the middle of the night looking for them.
DK – I don’t think that’s what it was Jay... but ok. Let’s talk football.
JC – Sure, I love the game. 11 vs 11, trying to score, beating the keeper is a god-like sensation...
DK – No, Jay, not that football, that’s not the sport that brought me up here!
JC – Oh, ok, got it.
DK – So, how does a portuguese 18yo decides to change the sport he played all his life, go to the US of A and declare for the DSFL Draft? That’s completely bonkers!
JC – Well, first of all, I had no idea that you guys from TV still said bonkers, but whatevs. Yeah Dirk, I understand that it might have caused some surprise to many, to see me show up on their draft boards, but hey, what’s life without some excitement for the unknown? I love playing, been kicking a round ball all my life, so that’s not really an hard adjustmente to be honest.
DK – But Jay, you say you’re a QB, so you won’t be really kicking the ball that much...
JC – What, really? Yeah, ok Dirk, but if I can do it with my feet, I mean, with my hands it just makes it a lot easier right? I’ll give you an example... Have you tried eating with your feet? It’s so much easier with your hands, trust me. So, playing QB it’s pretty straight forward. I might even try to throw the ball without a fork and a knife on my hands sometime.
DK – What about teams on the DSFL? Do you have any that you would prefer to draft you?
JC – Not really no. All I want is an active team with funny members, that can help me achieve my dream.. A dream that I have since as long as I can remember, so for like... 3 or 4 days. And since that time I’ve been having a dream where I can clearly see someone on a draft room, holding a piece of paper that says: “Jay Cue, no matter what”™ . I honestly can’t wait to see where I’m landing.
DK – I’m sure you understand that it takes a lot to become a successful QB in this League, right?
JC – Definately Dirk. But i’m focused and I want to become one of the best.
DK – Do you feel that having our camera crews filming your every step will make your daily life easier or harder?
JC – I got to say that it will make it easier. I’ve seen the Bachelor and America’s Got Talent, and I think that the exposure will do me good. First, because I will be able to then pay for stuff in “exposure bucks”, and second because I believe people will fall in love with my story, so they’ll be my fans. And, like we all heard for sure the saying, “with great fans, comes great responsability”. And they’ll push me harder and harder to get to where I want to be.
DK – What about your family? Do they support your decision? I mean, you’re 18, right out of highschool, it’s a big change.
JC – Well, I’m still building my wiki page so there’s no way you could know this, but my parents are very supportive. My father is a US diplomat that works at the US Embassy in Lisbon, and my mother is a teacher at a University here, so they’re pretty happy to see me embrace the American way of life. Still don’t know where I’ll live, it will depend where and if I get drafted, but i’ve seen Last Chance U, and if those players can be on tv, so can I. I only hope I don’t get to live in Manitowoc, I’ve heard bad stuff about the police there.
DK – Thanks a lot for your time Jay, we’ll leave you to work, but we’ll be sure to come back to get more information about you, for our TTG!
JC – No problem, looking forward to it. Thanks everyone for watching me, don’t forget to follow me on twitter, @TheRealJayCueQB. By the way Dirk, next time you come, can you bring me some more red lights?
And this is all the time we have for today, stay tuned for more interviews and information on our TTG. This was Zerin Nandrews, for ESPNSFL, goodbye.
