With the DSFL Draft completed and prospects finding their new homes let's take a look back at some big draft picks from the expansion Palm Beach Solar Bears. Now most guys are going to give you a draft grade and compare teams to each other but I'm not doing that. I'm just going to break down this list of stars making they're way to Palm Beach.
First off is the First round pick and second overall, Stuart Little IV, CB.
Now people always judged him because he was small but man does this kid have a lot of heart. Stuart wasn't considered a true prospect as he was a late season waiver pick up but that just makes him even more of a star for the Solar Bears. The kid is flowing with TPE and ready to lead the defense as a young veteran on this new team. Honestly it's just facts that anybody with a Roman numeral in their name is destined for greatness and Stuart Little IV is no exception.
Jake Utler, RB
Probably the most well known pick in the draft is second rounder Jake Utler. With him taking over the GM role it forced him into being the second round pick for Palm Beach. Don't take that as a bad thing Jake is no slouch and might have been a first rounder in his own right before taking over the team as a quick cutting RB with experience. He was one of the first prospects on the S18 list for his standout abilities in college and some thought he was destined for 1OA. Utler not only will lead his team in front office but on the field as well as a franchise running back in a run heavy league.
Zach Hall, TE
The YouTube star made it. The third round pick who built his stardom around trick catches is going to be given an opportunity to be a star pass catcher on this young team. A fast TE with hands of glue made a strong showing for himself in the prospect bowl catching a TD and 90 yards leading all tight ends. Reports say hes gotten even faster since then and really committed to beating defenders to progress his career. His only knock is for a man his size he's not a great blocker, not even a good one. In the run first DSFL let's see if he can transition enough to help his new team.
Matt Ammons, LB
What can't be said about this man? He was a tackling machine during the prospect bowl, having back-to-back 15 tackle games and leading all defenders in tackles. This man covers ground and covers it quickly. The only fault in his game is that he somehow fell into the fourth round. Many people had early projections for Ammons, so let's see if this is motivation to get even better. With Little IV locking down the pass defense, Ammons will be the captain in the middle of the field slowing the run. If this octopus of a man can still put up insane tackle numbers be prepared to call him the biggest steal in the draft.
Givussafare Rubbe, OL
The captain of the fair rubs campaign is here to show the league how the big boys do it. Palm Beach is a team building from the ground up and this monster of man is just the guy to do it. If you want a wall protecting your quarterback or a freight train in front of Utler, then this is the right guy. Rubbe is a pancake machine on the field and a pancake eating machine off of it. The Solar Bears got a stud to be a cornerstone of the offense with the Fair Rub Captain.
Tony Tonogai, OL
Another big man to lead this offense. Tonogai in the sixth round following Rubbe from the fifth, shows that Palm Beach cares about the big boys. Tony can be the guardian angel on the other side of Rubbe and lead to a powerhouse offense on the ground game.
Phillip Helmet, QB
Felipe Casco from Juliard is chosen in the seventh round to be a franchise quarterback on this new team. Helmet may not have put up the same numbers as Cue in the prospect bowl but he had some big throws on a struggling wolfpack team and led an upset against the high flying offense of the Mongoose. This kid has some nothing but improved every game he played and did not turn the ball over much. This may be all the Solar Bears need as they've given him a star running back in Utler and two beefy linemen in Rubbe and Tonogai to protect him. If Helmet makes the next step he could lead Palm Beach to a big season.
Charles Allen, RB
Another running back to help out Utler on the ground. Allen has the ability to be a starting back in this league so falling down to the eighth round must come to a shock for a lot of fans. Allen will not lack in touches this season as Palm Beach will follow it's big boys on the ground to hopeful high scoring results.
Baxter Frost, K
Highley viewed as the best kicker in the draft is taken with the 50th pick. Palm Beach understands the importance of a reliable kicker and drafted Frost who only missed one kick in the entire prospect bowl. Frost didn't just kick gimmes either he nailed a 52 yarder and a fair amount of 40+ yard kicks showing he has the power to be reliable on the opponent side of the 50. As long as the Solar Bear offense can get to the 40, Frost will be a high scorer for them.
Eeeee Silvveremm, OL
Palm Beach is going all out to build a line that can not be penetrated as they draft their 3rd offensive lineman in the first ten rounds. E^5 is a quick footed lineman that is as difficult to run around as he is to run through and will be a powerhouse blocking on run plays.
Will Smith, WR
The first wide receiver is the Fresh Prince himself. It will be Summertime for the Solar Bears as they get a great weapon for Helmet to throw to. He can Switch his hips and easily blow past a defender. He will be a Nightmare on My Street for any cornerback that lines up across from him. He will be Gettin Jiggy Wit It multiple times in the endzone this season.
Chuck Bartowski, DE
Palm Beach looked to build that defense up as they take a pass rusher. Bartowski had multiple sacks and tackles for loss in the prospect bowl making him a true threat every play he was on the field. With the tackling machine of Ammons and the lockdown corner Little IV, Bartowski could see some great sack numbers as opposing quarterbacks will be scrambling to find an open man.
Jared Smithson, OL
The 4th and final piece to the Fair Rub Club will Maine's very own Jared Smithson. This gritty lineman has superb footwork and positioning leaving many defenders frustrated. Smithson will join a powerhouse unit that will look to create havoc on the field and the local buffet line.
Rolo Tomassi, CB
The USC grad will be opposite Stuart Little IV on a defense that is looking to cover all its bases. Tomassi has great eye-ball skills and is always looking for the big play. With the pass rushing this defense is capable of, expect Rolo to have a good number of interceptions.
James Lux, DE
Continuing the trend of defenders, Palm Beach drafts James Lux another standout from the prospect bowl. Lux was able to amass two sacks and a handful of tackles for loss in his six games played. Lux with join Bartowski as a two headed threat on the defensive line.
Jake Howe, DT
You cant build a defense without a great defensive tackle stopping the run and that is what Howe is. A big bodied man that runs like a gazelle, Howe can cause alot of trouble to weaker offensive lines and be a pass rushing threat on this already good defensive draft class.
Bug Daldwin, WR
A sticky hand receiver, Daldwin had a great final year at Stanford. Bug will join fellow pass catchers Will Smith and Zach Hall as a third great option for Helmet and this young Palm Beach offense.
This wraps up the draft for the Palm Beach Solar Bears. This draft class was used to cover all positions for an expansion team looking to make a name for itself. Some superstar defenders early as well as an impenetrable O-line could lead to a big season for Palm Beach
