The Hot Seat:
Who is on the hot seat today? Welcome to the first installment of my weekly series where I take a closer look at a person or position of interest in the league. This week, for the first installment, I think it would be beneficial to look at a few team’s quarterback situations across the league. With the Trade deadline approaching, any holes in the most important position appear to be of utmost concern for teams. One quarterback, Ethan Hunt, formerly of the Orange County Otters, has already been traded off for defensive line talent to the San Jose Sabercats. Will further trades follow? Week nine’s results, and the General Managers reactions to it, will tell us a lot about the motivations to their team’s respective General Managers.
The Outlaws and their quarterbacks:
Bronko is the leading story of this week, the Outlaw’s receiver who recently converted into a quarterback. Bronko’s statistics are below the average for quarterback, however, the Outlaws are trusting their own team’s destiny to promote from within the team, instead of seeking a trade with ample other options available from teams outside the Outlaws locker room. Bronko should be, by publishers note, the first (non-quarterback) player to convert positions, and accept the hefty penalty which comes with position conversion.
With the current injury and inactivity of one Vincent Draxel, the Outlaws incumbent quarterback, the Outlaws future, and their playoff hopes, rest of Bronko’s unproven shoulders. This will be quite a game to spectate. The Outlaws have been a team rumored to be in the market for a free agent quarterback, if Bronko’s performance isn’t quite what the Outlaws suspected. As a spectator you get the sense everything may be falling apart for the Outlaws, especially as they have an upcoming match up against the surging and now also 5-3 Otters. Trading for a new Quarterback may prove to be their best option, as the Outlaws current 5-3 record puts them atop the ASFL standings, and ready to compete for the title in the second half of the season. As an added bonus, the only other available quarterback in Josh Bercovi currently hails from the gunslinger archetype, which should fit the style of play the Outlaws are looking for like a fingertip-less glove. They have done their best in the first half of the season, and look poised to battle the Otters for top standings in the ASFL in week 9. Looking forward, the pressure is sure to crank up on Outlaws General Managers following a defeat to the rival Otters and for the first time this season, the Outlaws could drop out of first place in the division. How the Outlaws will react is certainly the defining question of the week!
The Cold Seat: Otters Quarterback solved?!
The Otters Quarterback struggle has been well documented in the media, wither several pieces done by various members of the Otters and assorted quarterback fraternity, but this struggle looks to find a conclusion. Boss is now firmly in the driver’s seat, and after week seven and eight’s result, that seat is ice cold. The Otters scored the league’s first shutout victory in a week seven 24-0 blowout against the respectable 4-4 Wraiths, before slamming the recovering Sabercats 35-7 throwing three touchdowns and one interception
The Otters dealt Ethan Hunt to the San Jose Sabercats following week seven and eight decisions. Boss, Hunt, and Bercovi all competed across the preseason, and took their struggle into the regular season until Otter’s ownership finally stopped the quarterback cabaret, and brought in new management in the form of Shaka, interim General Manager and his two associates and heir apparent Jbearly and Jiggly_333.
