Ladies and gentleman, welcome again to ESPNSFL. My name is Zerin Nandrews and this is episode number 5 of our “Thoroughfare to Glory” (TTG) saga, bringing you the life of Season 18 QB prospect, the “Portuguese Phenom”, Jay “Football” Cue.
We are now 8 games into the season and the Portland Pythons are have 6 wins and 2 losses. After 4 straight wins, our star now finally had to face the fact that the team is not invincible.
Dirk travelled to Portland, Oregon to catch up with Jay, to see how he is been dealing with the 6-2 record.
Dirk – Hey again Jay, thanks for having us.
Jay – No problem Dirk, anytime.
Dirk – So, after a perfect 4 games, you were humbled by the Marshalls.
Jay – Yeah, there isn’t much to tell other than that Dirk. We knew they were a very difficult team to beat at their stadium and unfortunately we could not cope with their game and their home crowd.
Dirk – What went wrong?
Jay – Nearly everything to be honest. Credit to their team of course, they had a great day, but our team also did not perform at the level we are required. Defensively was our worst game of the season, offensively we just could not get it going after the first quarter. They figured out our offensive game plan and neutralized us.
Dirk – You also did not have the best game, let’s be honest.
Jay – Definitely, I let the team down. Again, credit to their team, but I needed to perform a whole lot better. Throwing 1 TD with 3 INTs is just not good enough at this level.
Dirk – What positives did you take out of this game?
Jay – It just showed us that you can be invincible and in a flash you get thrown right in the mix. We were controlling the league and now the other teams have us on their sights. We are the ones that every team wants to beat and now we only have 1 draw lead.
Dirk – And then you had another L in Tijuana.
Jay – We did, our week was not very good in road games. And funny enough, I think I had my best game since I started playing for the Pythons.
Dirk – Indeed, 3 TDs and 0 INTs for a 135.3 rating are pretty good stats. Were you disappointed that the Pythons lost the game with you putting up those numbers?
Jay – A loss is always hard to take, no matter what the stats are. But I can throw an almost perfect game and get an L and have a nightmare and still win. The team has bailed me out on some games and sometimes we just do not perform as expected. We can and we will lose, but when that happens we want to leave the field knowing the opponent has been the better team.
Dirk – And the playoff picture, what is the feeling in the locker room?
Jay – We feel we are in a good position. We are very strong at home and we can still get results playing away. But it is a long season and we just do not want to make any mistakes.
Dirk – Well Jay, thanks again for having us, good luck on the games next week.
Jay – Thanks Dirk, I hope we meet again 10-2.
And this is all the time we have for today, stay tuned for more interviews and information on our TTG. This was Zerin Nandrews, for ESPNSFL at the Portland Pythons training facility, goodbye, see you next time.
