"Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is Bjørn Ironside reporting in from the S18 Sports Center. We've got a serious blind side for you today. We've just gotten word that one of the best young defensive tackles in the entire league has decided to position switch this off season. He's been losing weight and shaping up and it looks like Orange County's AJ Lattimore is moving into the secondary. We've got a new cornerback on our hands and we're going to be diving into an exclusive of what exactly led to this decision."
Ironside: "It’s nice to catch up with you and this one I'm excited for. Word is that you've decided to position change. What has made you decide to move away from your home at the defensive tackle position?"
TeyonSchavari: “I decided to move away from my position as a defensive tackle due to my performance at that position. I’m unhappy with how I’ve played on the defensive line during my career, and I feel that a change is needed for me to grow and succeed as a player. I feel that I can make a greater impact for my team elsewhere.”
Ironside: "Of all the positions you could have chosen to swap to, why is it that you've chosen to become a cornerback?"
TeyonSchavari: “Our secondary is getting older, and it seems like the best place for me to help out our defense. Before I grew and gained weight in high school, I actually was a corner my freshman year, so I have some experience in that position. I know I’ll have to lose some weight, but that won’t be too big of an issue. I will miss eating pizza all the time though for sure.”
Ironside: "Do you believe that this position change will allow you to have a bigger impact on the field going forward?"
TeyonSchavari: “Definitely. I think I can make more plays as a defensive back than I could in the trenches, and I trust that my general manager will be able to replace my production at defensive tackle. I’ll be a much more versatile player.”
Ironside: "Was this a decision you came to with your GMs or something that you decided for yourself without their involvement?"
TeyonSchavari: “I decided to switch positions on my own, and Spec directed me toward the cornerback position, but was ready to roll with whatever position I wanted to play in. Luckily, I thought corner sounded great. I get to put up better numbers, and the Otters get a playmaker in a position of need. It’s a win-win.”
Ironside: "What are your personal goals now as a player? Obviously they have to be different than they were at defensive tackle."
TeyonSchavari: “My first and foremost goal still hasn’t changed: I want to win championships. But aside from that, I’m hoping to have a breakout season my first year at the position. I want at least a few picks and double digit pass deflections.”
Ironside: "Would you ever consider another position change in the future? Do you believe other players should consider position changes for any reason?"
TeyonSchavari: “I don’t plan on changing positions again after this. I’m going to do my best here and ride it out the rest of my career. I’d say, if you aren’t happy with where you are, you definitely should consider changing positions. If you’re not enjoying yourself, sometimes a change of pace will give you the spark you need to keep going.”
Ironside: "Now that you're going to be making plays in the defensive backfield, how do you feel about your chances to repeat as champions this season with Orange County?"
TeyonSchavari: “I believe we’re going to be even better next season. We are in prime position to repeat, have a lot of draft picks in a really talented draft class, and a lot of young players that are only getting better. Watch out for Orange County this year.”
Ironside: "Is there anything else you'd like to say to the league or your teammates before we head off?"
TeyonSchavari: “To the league: Be careful who you throw to this season because we have a strict no-fly zone in OCO. The Otters are back and better than ever. To my teammates: I can’t wait to make an impact in a different way this season, and I know you all are ready to get back out there. We got the best team in the league and we’re gonna prove it! Thank you for having me, Bjørn.”
AJ Lattimer is a determined player with an excellent head on his shoulders. He knows what he is getting into and he knows the path he's chosen. He's gone from being one of the best at his position to having to compete for that title in his new one. He has a plan and he is optimistic about how it will turn out. All we can do now is wait and see if he can be the same kind of player in the secondary as he was on the line. Until next time, Ironside signing off."
