Hello everyone! It is everyone's favorite Owner/ Former Agent/ Co General Manager of Philadelphia Liberty, Former Champion of the DSFL and NSFL as a General Manager, iamslm22 (I feel like Dany from Game of Thrones with this giant introduction title but why not). I am going to write about each of the players we picked through the first 4 rounds and we are very excited to have in our team and how each of them will make an impact. Since this is about the draft we get some bonus cash $$. Without further ado lets get to pick number 1
With our first pick in the draft, and the 2nd pick over all We picked Zach Hall @Hallmonitor_20 the Defensive End from the Solar Bears. There were several players we were considering at this position, but Hall was the easy choice really. He was my General Manager in the DSFL this season after I created as Avon Blocksdale Jr. and was fantastic in the Locker Room there. It is well known that I am not going to be Philly General Manager for ever and the ability to get a guy like Hall in the locker room who could potentially take over for me at some point was just too good to pass up. Plus a high TPE earning defensive line player like Hall is perfect. He's an awesome team player and has been instrumental in the locker room. Love this pick.
Our next pick in the draft came in the 2nd round and was the 12th pick over all. Here we were looking for some one who could be a leader in the locker room and someone who we knew would make an impact on our team. The choice was pretty easy because we had some one from the beginning who we were targeting in this round they were here. That was Jake "Dropson" Watson @goodvsevil1275 the Wide Out for the Portland Pythons. As everyone knows the Liberty have a star receiver in Nacho Varga but we needed one more receiver to compliment him. That is where Jake comes in. His ability to run great rounds and make plays (even if he does drop some) is a perfect fit as an outside receiver next to Varga. He is going to be able to help Falconi as she regresses and help Avon Jr. as he comes up through the pros. Jake has also been fantastic in the LR and was a great choice here who has earned well since he has been drafted. Very happy we were able to grab him.
Our third pick was our own third rounder. Here we wanted to focus on the best player available and get a guy who was going to be reliable and be excellent in the locker room. We have a load of running backs (though you can use them all over the field) but being able to get the guy we got here in the third round was pretty crazy. We got Fuzzy Dotston @goodfortunecoffee. Fuzzy is a DSFL General Manager and being able to grab one of those in the third round is insanely rare. I have to say I was very surprised Fuzzy fell this far. He is going to stay down this first season to the DSFL (and he's going to make a big impact down there) but when he comes up to the big leagues he is going to be a huge part of the Philadlephia success. Additionally having someone who is going to be able to help us scout and tell us about rookies like a DSFL General Manager is great. Obviously we had that in mind when making our picks, two of our first three were DSFL GMs.
In our 2nd pick of the 3rd round we were able to pick a player with a super high ceiling. Before going in to this pick I want to talk about how we were able to get this pick. The Yellowknife Wraiths wanted to improve to help their Ultimus chances and they really wanted Lukas Smyles (symmetrick) so they gave up their own third rounder along with Chad maulololo who was then traded to Arizona for two players. So needless to say at the Liberty we were thrilled to flip a regressing player for a younger player in order to make our team younger and get a better pick. That this pick then turned into Mike Franchet @DeadlyPlayer is even better. Getting Franchet at the spot we did is fucking insane. The guy is a position of need, he's a defensive lineman and he's going to be the simmer. He's an A+ dude who is incredible in the locker room and it's honestly shocking we were able to get him when we did. Franchet is a great guy and his player has amazing potential. There are numerous players picked before him I would have chosen him over. Woo!
To start the 4th round off the Liberty had back to back picks to start the round thanks to a trade made by the previous General Manager Vander Jones. So the first pick we made in this round was a player who we were very very surprised to see fall so far. He had a lot of TPE coming into the process but had tailed off in the weeks heading into the draft and that is Stuart Little @dieselj123. Being able to grab a Corner back in the 4th round (who just wrote an article today) who was the SIXTH (yes you read that right, 6th!) Corner taken is crazy. Diesel is a very well known guy from the PBE where he is hyper active over there. A minor league General Manager over there (and a player over 1000 TPE) and he's already been a huge asset to the locker room. Why he fell to the fourth round I have no idea but I am very happy with it needless to say.
Our second of back to back picks was yet another DSFL General Manager. I get that kickers are not super high value but grabbing an active one who is again a leader in the minors and a leader in the club house in the fourth is another amazing value. Baxter Frost @Frostbite. This was the third DSFL General Manager we took in the draft and possibly the best value. Having a good reliable kicker who is going to be great in the locker room was huge for us, and putting the Frost in FrostyHall was the way to go. Frost has been nothing short of a delight in the locker room, and I already knew he would be since again he managed my player in the DSFL this past season. Over all very happy with this pick.
The final pick I am going to talk about is a pick we got from the Baltimore Hawks by shipping off Vander Jones' retire corpse. Getting a 4th round and 6th round pick was great, but the real value in this trade is that the 4th rounder turned into Johnson Hardin @adam2552 and enabled us to get the founder of the team and an all around amazing locker room presence to the room. Obviously he is a quarter back and I am a quarterback and all I will say on the positional matter is stay tuned.
Over all we were able to come away with 7 actives in the first 4 rounds, and we are obviously thrilled. I am obviously biased but I love the draft we had, we hit needs and got tons of actives by TPE and in our LR. Let me know what you think
