Ideally, my fantasy team would involve players I know something about. Having just re-joined the league, I see a lot of names I don't know, I see a kicker's agent now representing the league MVP quarterback and I can't help but think... the fuck? Having a complete dearth of understanding how NSFL fantasy works, I'd assume defensive players are actually involved in it, and that would make me just want to focus on them first. People like to draft the flashy point scoring players initially, so you could probably scoop up some super high value picks in that manner. Following that you gotta just try and scoop up whatever value you can find at receiver and take whichever quarterback and halfback remaining. All in all, I find the best thing I like to do for fantasy football though, is to try and ensure I take players I actually want to keep tabs on. That way I will know how they are doing and know whether to drop them or not. Also this method gives me extra incentive to keep tabs on those individuals. Lastly, the key thing to do is just do your research. If you don't have a single clue how many points somebody is projected to earn, you're going to lose out on a lot of value in the draft by sheer ignorance and you'll lose. And if you're going to lose, why even play?
Well, Five weeks into another Fantasy Football season and things are not looking as rosey as they did a year ago for me! Last season I was still fairly new to the NSFL and did my best to "wing" the draft and much to my surprise I actually ended up performing fairly well coming out in second place in my group. Fast forward to this season though and I've managed to find myself near the bottom of my group in 5th place. That being said I've got a couple of absolute studs on my team and based on that I have some serious hope I will pull myself out of the whole in the coming weeks. With the 4th pick in the draft I selected Forest Gump who has proven to be an absolute steal as he is leading all fantasy players with 139.8 points. Gump will continue to lead the squad and not far behind him my trusty QB Cooter Bigsby is balling out with 106.7 fantasy points. I'm going to need some more production out of my supporting cast but I expect guys like Ashley Owens to get going and put up some big numbers down the stretch to help me out. Here's to hoping!
I am doing very well so far in fantasy this season. At the top of my group and 8th overall across the league, I'm happy with the team that I've built. I didn't claim anybody off of waivers either this year, so it feels great to be doing so well with the players I originally drafted. I own two of the top three players - Forrest Gump and Franklin Armstrong - after drafting in the tough #3 spot. I was thankful to be able to grab both Sunnycursed and James Bishop, who have been playing very well for WR's this season, and Bishop was a steal with one of my later picks. However, I did spend a pick early on Cameron Olsen, who has been a massive disappointment after having such a great season in S17. I was expecting him to be a key player on my team, but he has been dragging me down as one of the worst TE options I could have chosen. That is just how fantasy goes I guess. Other than that, I have a good flex player in Slim Shady, and my kicker ForThe Brand and NOLA's defense are ok but aren't as great as I'd like them to be. In all, I have a solid team all around, and I hope to come out on top in my group this season!
My fantasy in general has just been a big let down. I think that the biggest by far has been Apollo Reed. Reed has been a top scorer in fantasy for the last couple of years now, so I had kind of just assumed that he would keep that up going into this new season. But, I guess that I was dead wrong about that . Reed has been scoring very poorly. Really wishing i could have gotten Gump. Gump has been playing great.
I think the best surprise of the season has been my QB, Easten Cole. Cole was my last pick, as I wanted to get the most important positions out of the way before I went QB. Because QBs really just do not need to be pikced early at all. Cole has been playing really good, and def a great steal for this year. Another steal I had was Oles, who has been putting up good points all year.
I regret not going for Mako Mendoca aswell this year. I could have gotten him pretty later, and he is a top 10 scorer for fantasy so far. Not sure why I did not, and I am regretting it now.
My team has been playing poorly, which is sad. I have been in the top 2 every year I have done fantasy, so this is a different feeling not in the running for TPE.
My fantasy team is doing ok right now I'd say. We're currently in 4th in our group but the entire top 4 is only separated by about 40 points so not that much of a gap for us to make up. I should not have taken Sam Torensen first overall over Forest Gump, though Sam is doing ok at least. Cam Olsen has unfortunately been disappointing at TE after I took him pretty early there - he just doesn't have the supporting cast, actually is playing TE now, and is getting the ball thrown to him by a recent switch from TE to QB that does not have his full allotment of TPE in QB relevant skills yet. Falconi hasn't been great at QB for fantasy purposes but they were the last QB picked to mainly just a product of me waiting on the position. The best thing I did was go with two proven assets at the WR position in Sunnycursed and Bishop, both of whom are doing quite well thus far this season at a position that I have historically struggled to pick good players for. This all adds up to an ok team that I could've done better at with a couple of changes, mainly Gump first overall and then getting a QB where I took Olsen before waiting until the very end for a TE.
It's weird to call Forrest Gump a steal, given that he was the consensus 2nd overall pick, but to me it was clear he was going to dominate the league this year and the clear first pick. He has done that and more, completely destroying other Running Backs in the league.
The real steal, and again, this was very obvious to us on the team, is Bona'beri Jones. Jones went undrafted in most fantasy drafts, something that shocked us, given that he was going to be the number 1 receiver in NOLA. I think a lot of people thought that Fyodo would still be the number 1 guy since they looked at TPE totals before the regression or last year's stats. So for us, we knew that Jones would be a huge steal in the fantasy drafts and he has done extraordinarily well so far, with 558 yards and 4 touchdowns, somewhere in the top 10 for receivers in the league.
Easton Cole is another huge steal. Among QBs he was not the highest choice, though he was usually drafted. Still, no one expected him to dominate quite like he has, with 17 TDs and only 3 INTs. I believe Havran has slightly more fantasy points right now, but Cole is easily the number 2 guy right now.
