The Fast and the Dreamiest, Best of the West and the Beast the East PTII: The Rematch
The two fastest players had tied… they tied in their race of the fastest people in the class. This didn’t sit right with Quin when he was idly resting a few weeks after the race. Quin and Kacey had played each other since the race with Kacey getting the best of Quin with Portland winning. Quin had run all over the defense with 121 yards, but nothing to show for it with no touchdowns while Kacey returned an interception for a touchdown. It had been a pretty frustrating season for Quin so far, with so many yards and almost no touchdowns, and one win on the year to show for all the teams hard work. He knew he was one of the fastest players in the class and wasn’t satisfied with a tie, nobody wins with a tie. The spectacle of the two racing was very fun, but he was burning to find out which one of the two between him and Kacey was faster.
Quin texted Kacey quickly “How about a rematch? I’m coming to your turf this time.”
Kacey was either waiting for the text or was on his phone when Quin texted because the response was almost immediate “Let’s go, I got a spot picked out already”
Quin was in the air within the hour and took the ride from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Portland Oregon. When he arrived it was the mirror of when Kacey arrived in Myrtle Beach, where Kacey was waiting for Quin when he walked off the plane. “You ready for this?” Quin asked Kacey with a smile. The two did a short handshake and Kacey responded, “Always ready Quin, lets get to the spot.” They took off in the car and drove a while until they were basically right on the waters edge of the Pacific Ocean, where they got out of the car and went into a high school stadium.
Once inside the stadium Quin rolled his eyes as the stadium was filled with people with cameras and notepads, obviously Kacey had put out the words on where right after their texts and got every scout near them to show up at this event. Once again their charities were on the video board with Kacey sticking with PCAA Prevent Child Abuse America, and Quin sticking with Pokemon With You, because he had to catch them all. The cameras were already flashing from the stands and when Quin glanced around he saw that Kacey had ramped up the event even more from last time with Television cameras patrolling the grounds, with all of them focused on the two runners as they entered the event.
Quin laughed and pushed at Kacey “Can’t believe you did this in such a short amount of time.”
Kacey just had a sly smile “I’ve had this ready since the first race. I knew we would go again soon… and people will come to see The Dream no matter what”
Quin fired right back “People will come to watch me no matter what after this race, you watch”
Kacey kept toe for toe with Quin’s fun jabbing remarks “You’re going to have to watch me after the race because I’ll be wining this time”
Quin smirked “We’ll see, have a good race man” they fist bumped and separated. Quin went to one half of the track while Kacey went to the other half, both starting their warmup routines and everything. Quin stretched slowly but surely, and then warmed up on the track running and practicing the take-off, and then making sure he was fully ready to go, stretching out any tight spots he found he still had. He hadn’t paid attention to Kacey, but it seemed that he was doing nearly the same as Quin was and seemed to get done at the same time.
Again, this time same as last time, the betting train showed up to the event, and the betting was split near straight down the middle of the two racing again, especially because of the tie that they had last race. The racers waved to the crowd as the announcer said that it was time to go to the starting line: same rules as last time, 100-yard dash, good luck.
Quin and Kacey side-by-side at the starting line. They were introduced and then told to get to their stance. Quin and Kacey got to their stance before the countdown and the gun to set them off down the track. Quin had a fantastic start to the race, but even with him feeling that Kacey was right there with him step by step, neither really gaining an advantage. Even when Quin seemed to be ahead Kacey was right there next to him a moment later. Down the track with their blazing speed the race only lasted around 10 seconds, but it was so intense and electric it felt like a much longer time. Quin and Kacey kept going and finished in another really close ending that would need the pictures at the finish line to tell the crowd who had won or lost.. or tied again.
In reality it was probably less than a minute before the picture showed up on the big screen, but it felt like longer again, and once the picture showed up people could see there was a clear winner to this race even with it being so close. Quin’s toe on his foot was passed the line while Kacey was just getting to the line. The crowd erupted with applause and cheers while some of the crowd didn’t cheer either because their money was lost, or they cheered for the Pythons. The times took a little longer than the picture, and the time’s ended up being Quin: 10.03 seconds. Kacey: 10.12 seconds.
After the picture showed up Kacey and Quin embraced in a short hug, before anything else they were friendly, and this competition was a good example of that. Kacey had told Quin congratulations when he saw the picture because it was close, but obvious who the winner was. Quin also congratulated Kacey, as he was a worthy and great opponent for these races that they had done so far.
