Jack Johnson’s take on the Season 19 draft:
Hi everyone, I am Jack Johnson… or John Jackson, I can never remember. Last year I wrote my first article about the NSFL draft and I am back. I speak from my own unique perspective and if you don’t like what I have to say, well that’s just too bad. This year I decided to simply go with the top 5 instead of the top 10 like I did year. I did that for a few reasons. 1, this draft was not a deep as last years. Last year’s class was huge. 2, due to personal reasons I was unable to get as much information together for the article as I would’ve liked. So with all of that, I give you the top 5 picks* from this years NSFL draft.
There are a few things I wanted to mention before I begin. If you were not drafted where you wanted to be, that’s okay. The best part about that is playing with a chip on your shoulder. Nothing like proving all the GM’s wrong for passing on you once or multiple times. Go and show the world what you are made of. There are always people who will overlook you but if you keep at it and do the work, you never know what you might achieve. Strive to be the best and show your team just how good you are. Let us begin.
Mack Arianlacher
Tck 90 TFL 1 FF 2 FR 0 Sck 1 PD 1
Mack is for sure the most talented player in this group and New Orleans had no choice but to pick him. While the stats don't show the whole story his abilities on the field are undeniable. Sometimes in this league statistics do not show the whole story. That is what is going on here. You need to watch the game tape to see how he puts pressure on the QB and covers his man perfectly. The Passes Defended here show how little he is thrown at because of how good in coverage he is. But his shining moments are when he rushes the backfield and completely disrupts the offense. Arianlacher will be a force for years as long as he keeps up his rigorous training.
Deondre Thomas-Fox
Comp / Att 221 / 390 Yards 2441 Pct 56.7 TD / INT 13 / 15 Rat 70.5
Deondre Thomas-Fox has a great reputation and pedigree from his days in college and high school. His accomplishments and accolades did not translate immediately to the DSFL and likely will not translate immediately to the NSFL. Thomas-Fox is definitely a project, however it is a project that San Jose believes will be a project worth taking. I agree with this. Take your time and get Thomas-Fox ready for the NSFL and don’t rush him into the starting position. This will set you up for the long term success that Deondre is destined for. Thomas-Fox will one day take the reigns in San Jose and it will be glorious. Don’t mess this up.
Austin McCormick
Rec 59 Yards 523 Avg 8.9 Long 23 TD 2
New Orleans looked to get a new piece for their lacking offense now that they have secured the best piece of defense in this draft. They went with Austin McCormick. This guy is large and in charge when on the field and is able to block and catch which should make an immediate impact on the Second Line. While his numbers receiving are not the greatest, he just wasn't targeted as much as he could have been. But he was on the field for most of the team snaps and I expect him to be on the field a lot for New Orleans. Austin needs to make good with the team Quarterback Stan Francisco to develop that reputation that is so necessary these days between a young quarterback and “his” offense.
Sean O’Leary
Rec 58 Yards 795 Avg 13.7 Long 37 TD 9
Sean O’Leary is the best Wide receiver in this draft. He is arguably the best offensive player in this draft. Chicago nailed this pick as Sean will come in and play immediately. He has the speed and the agility to break cornerbacks ankles. He is going to be exciting to watch. He will help out Rose Jenkins when her accuracy fails her. Sean can make the plays and stretch his arms to be that guy you watch on third downs. I can't wait to watch your rookie season and possibly even break top 15 of all receivers which will be an amazing feat. Some may look and wonder why you were taken ahead of Sweet James-Jones and Rayne Gordon. To me it is obvious, but to them you are just another receiver. Go be the best.
Kacey Dream
Tck 79 TFL 0 FF 1 FR 0 Int 4 PD 15 TD 1
Once again Orange County nails this pick. The Otters continually dominate in this league winning championship after championship. If GM’s are looking at a team to replicate it is this one. Kacey Dream is an amazing player and will become one of the best Defensive Backs in this league. Although Dream may not make an immediate impact right away, Kacey sets them up for the future defensively and creates an amazing cornerstone in that position. I assumed I would see Dream off the board earlier but I was wrong and the Otters take advantage. So congratulations to the newest Otter Kacey Dream for landing in the perfect scenario. You could be a Hall of Famer in the making with this team.
Sweet James-Jones
Rec 70 Yards 956 Avg 13.7 Long 49 TD 6
I originally was just going to do my top 5 draft pick analysis. But in any list that Sweet James Jones could be on, he is on. James-Jones is dynamic and can make all the plays. I do think despite the statistics that he is still a bit behind O’Leary who was drafted earlier by Chicago. Chicago has now drafted the two best wide receivers in this draft. This is setting up for a potent offense lead by Rose Jenkins. It is hard to determine who will end training camp as the better between these two but like Chicago I think that having these two on the same team could spell havoc for any opposing defense. Especially with defenses like Arizona and Orange County in the same conference, you need as much fire power as you can muster. Sweet James-Jones, you are a magnificent player and a definite personality. While I think Sean is the better receiver I would also love if you were to prove me wrong. Give ‘em hell!
Thank you for listening, I hope you enjoyed my take on this year’s draft. If not maybe you will like C9 Van’s take. Without further adieu, here is Laszlo Forty-Two!
C9 Van (Laszlo Forty-Two):
Hello there. General Kenobi. It is now time for me to do my little section about this last draft. I am going to be honest more than anything. Do not get me wrong here. I do wish every player in this draft well and I hope they enjoy the league but I kind of find articles that are just one big “I like this pick because…” like 10 times can be boring. Now I do not really know this draft class anywhere near as well as last seasons insane draft class so it will be interesting to see how this goes. Just do not get offended. One shitty person’s opinion will not hurt you. Chances are I will like the majority of picks anyway but better to warn beforehand.
I will also just be focusing on people I actually know something about.
Austin McCormick - Tight End - 3rd overall to the New Orleans Second Line
Okay I have a huge bone to pick with Tom Hanks for this pick. Where the fuck do you think you are just waltzing into this draft and picking one of the best people in the draft so easily. How dare you sir! Feel bad! It is about time you decided to stop having good drafts and just have an average draft or two.
The user Nokazoa is one of the coolest people in this draft and I am really gutted he will not be coming to the Colorado Yeti. I am the dude who gets his Total Points Earned when he hits specific totals (Ironically I also went 3rd in my draft lol) so I am super glad he likes this league even more. I know he will be a great Tight End for them and New Orleans’ team continues to grow.
I think it is fairly obvious they have 1 of the best young cores with the Colorado Yeti (And probably Austin but I do not exactly know everyone on that team as well as these two) and can see them being pretty strong. Adding Austin M.C. Cormick just makes them even better.
I hope he continues to enjoy the league and does great things for them.
Mason Blaylock - Safety - 8th overall to the New Orleans Second Line
Weird. Another good Tijuana Luchadores player off to the New Orleans team? If only I did that for them instead of going to Marshalls Sr team. Oh well. Go Yeti. Anyway, Blaylock is a really good player and New Orleans’ 3rd pick up in the 1st round. I would argue if you were going to have 3 1st rounders you wanted to do it in last seasons bullshit good draft but they will be getting the little quality that is in this draft so hard to really argue here.
He will love playing for Mr. Hanks. I do not know anyone has ever not enjoyed it.
Gary Laser-Eyes - Safety - 10th overall to that team that wins too much (Orange County Otters)
Stupid sexy Laser Eyes! Getting free titles for the remainder of his career. The National Simulation Football League should just go back to a simpler time of 2 seasons ago when 7-6 regular season record meant you were confirmed for winning it all in the post-season! Still, this is a great pick up for the Otters and whilst I do not really know what the safety situation is like for them. I can imagine picking up my boi from the Tijuana Luchadores is just a positive thing.
Herbert Prohaska - Kicker slash Punter - 15th overall to the Colorado Yeti
The Colorado Yeti will go down in this draft as doing fuck all. We traded our 1st rounder last season for a dude who would’ve gone very, VERY high in this shitty draft class (Compared to season 18.) and our off-season was won by adding the amazing free agents we ended up getting.
So he shares the same first name as my late grandfather so I am glad we drafted him, albeit not for long. I cannot really give my 2 cents about this situation purely because I was busy at this point and barely helped with this draft. We were not in the 1st round, so it did not really matter and trading up would be dumb. However, we did get:
Jordan Jackson Punter slash Kicker - 16th overall to the Sexy-rado Big Feet
Our actual kicker. Active in the Luchadores locker room. Will be what we need for that position. I for 1 cannot wait to welcome our Squirrel overlords. Pretty happy with the pick honestly. Get a shiny new kicker and another great person to add to the growing locker room. Heavily different team from a handful of seasons ago when this team finished 1-400. The Bubba42 Effect!
This person is also a member of the Golden Fleece and follows Grand Theft Auto Role Play streamers so this is just perfect. Prune Gang!
Avon Blocksdale Jr - Quarter Back - 17th overall to the Philly Liberty
A forced pick up, but a great pick up regardless of that fact. Arguably one of if not the best player in the draft overall and would be going stupidly high if not just auto drafted. I think this sets Philly up pretty well, if they can strengthen a few other positions I think they can be a pretty scary team. A real eye emoji. Glad to see my Tijuana Luchadores bro look like a damn good quarter back player.
Tiny Tim - Tight End - 21st pick overall to the Philly Liberty
Terrible pick! Why did you not pick one of his brothers or sisters instead Philly! What a Christmas nightmare. The kid will not even live to see next Christmas yet alone play for Philly! (I refuse to believe Scrooge McDuck changed his heart the day after considering he is supposed to be good at business. Come on!)
He is usually limping too so imagine Avon Blocksdale Jr. needs to make a clutch pass and the only person open is the Tight End. Little Tiny Tim. You really think no-one will crush his tiny fragile body?! It is the easiest fumble ever! Terrible pick overall I fee--Wait, it is not the actual Tiniest Tim?
Oh...Well, probably a decent pick up if they remain active and can get that sweet Total Points Earned I guess. Good job Philly!
Jean-Baptist Boivin - Tight End - 39th pick overall to the Yellow Knife Wraiths
A good friend of mine in the Simulation Hockey League. So as his friend I must berate him into oblivion with zero lube in sight! Grr!
I was really glad when he gave the league a shot with Noka but he just did not have time, enjoy it, insert whatever reason here. Not a good pick-up. At all. 99% is not or never coming back. I get that it is the 39th pick overall and you are fighting over scraps buuut he is a no hoper. Should have just passed or picked someone else. I may have just included this to be mean to my pal. But it was worth it.
Overall thoughts:
I think some of these players in this draft class will be really good when they hit the prime years of whatever position they play in. It reminds me a lot of my draft class. A few of them are pretty good and will be outstanding but the rest will drop off and die with only a few steals even being a possibility. This is very weak compared to season 18 (Which like we were compared to the recreate season before us) so only a handful of teams won this one. I am not too fussed about us missing out on a lot in this. Who we did get was great. We won via free agency anyway so.
Here is to another fun season!
