Week 7
Pythons 31 over Buccaneers 17 - This game was the perfect tale of two halves. In a matchup between two of the league’s best, you had the Buccaneers spark an incredible start as it looked like they were going to run away with this one 17-7 in the first half. After going down 7-0, @RainDelay22 (Rayne Gordon) got open for a massive 20 yard reception that set the Buccaneers up deep in Python territory. It led to the Buccaneers first score and it looked like they had found their groove as an impressive 11 yard catch by @Vex (Jacoby Clay) on 3rd and 10 set up @siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) for a score of his own and rushed for 70 yards in the first half. Even the defense buckled down as @BigUnitBabs (Bobby Boucher) killed three separate drives by himself in the first half with a sack, a tackle for a loss, and a forced fumble. Then came the second half. It started off with Myrtle Beach driving, then a massive blow delivered by @Moosecop (Galf Wilf) forced a fumble that he also recovered himself. This stopped a scoring drive by Myrtle Beach, but not all was lost. Two chop blocks by the Pythons set them up on a 1st and 25, which should have been difficult to convert. Then a 17 yard run by Paco Mctaco followed by an excellent 8 yard first down catch by Jah Bur’Berry dug them out of their hole. After that, it was all Portland as Jay Cue put together a masterful second half and Portland’s front seven suddenly figured it out and stalled Myrtle Beach. 24 Portland points in the first quarter defined this entire game.
Grey Ducks 28 over Seawolves 17 - The Grey Ducks came into this one and did exactly what they needed to do. They put the Seawolves away early and then coast out the end of the game. This was made possible by 72 first half yards and three first half touchdowns by Darrel Williams. It was absolutely his show as he imposed his will on the Seawolves and his tough running was why the Grey Ducks were able to keep their defense off the field as they controlled time of possession 18 minutes to 12 in the first half. The rest of this game was told through solid defense an excellent punting work. @Acsolap (Thor Kirkby) proved to be a sideline to sideline monster as he repeatedly found himself near the ball, taking down runners before they could convert first downs time and time again. Combine this with a six sack effort led by two key plays from Hal Fassingit and the Seawolves struggled to get anything going. This was all of course aided by @golden_apricot (Silver Banana) who amassed 412 punting yards, repeatedly forcing the Seawolves to march the length of the field in the second half and limiting their opportunities to drive. It was a solid team effort and the Grey Ducks showed what they can do when they’re able to play their style of game.
Tijuana 15 over Coyotes 10 - Tijuana has to feel like they got away with one here as they played another close match with Kansas City. It was a game void of any real highlights and you can easily point to @KanakoSquirrel (Jordan Jackson) as the reason they came away with this one. His two field goals, one extra point, and 405 punting yards not only scored half of Tijuana’s points, it also helped their defense hold the Coyotes all game longer. After a promising first quarter drive carried on the backs of Colonel Tushfinger and @KC15 (Jed Podolak) stalled, they never really gained any steam again. Luckily, their defense was stout and while they didn’t get many highlight plays, they put together a very solid team effort. No turnovers, very backwards plays, but all and all they put together an effort that held the Coyotes to less than 3.4 yards per offensive play. There is enough credit to go around as @W.Sconnie (Inspectah Deck), @inverted96 (Kyle Idlewyld), Victor Moreno, and @Jay_Doctor (Mason Blaylock) all put in solid work to keep Kansas City’s offense short time and time again.
Week 8
Buccaneers 29 over Coyotes 14 - After a tough loss on the road in Portland, Myrtle Beach needed a bounce back game. They found it here against the Coyotes. It initially looked close as the Coyotes opened the game up with a long drive that resulted in seven. They were methodical, burning time off the clock and keeping the Buccaneers off the field. Myrtle Beach showed why as they marched down the field for a quick strike in just five plays. A 16 yard run from @siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) followed by a 25 yard and a 10 yard catch by @RainDelay22 (Rayne Gordon) chunked the Coyotes defense and set up Ricardo Rose for the first touchdown of the game. That was followed by @BigUnitBabs (Bobby Boucher) killing a Coyotes drive by tackling a runner at the line two plays in a row and suddenly, the Buccaneers were up 10-7. Due to the defense putting the Coyotes in repeated long yardage situations, they were able to force Kansas City into two missed field goals and the Beach were able to go into the half feeling good about themselves. Then on the first play of the second half, Brock Phoenix got free for an 80 yard touchdown run that complete crushed any morale the Coyotes had left. The Buccaneers simply ran away with it from there as the Coyotes found themselves unable to get a foothold for the rest of the game.
Portland 51 over Seawolves 23 - They may have started slow against Myrtle Beach, but they wasted no time in this one as Jay Cue put on an absolute clinic. He set the tone early on the first drive. In three consecutive plays he went 17 yards to @dylanjj (Darnell Johnson), 29 yards to Johnson, then 17 yards to Jah Bur’Berry for the score. He made it clear that the Seawolves could do nothing to slow him down and that was the story all game long. His four passing touchdowns weren’t enough as he also ran one in from 18 yards in the fourth quarter to add insult to injury. That didn’t even tell the whole story as he set up @Baron1898 (Venus Powers) repeatedly as she went 3 for 3 on long range kicks including 46 yarder that showed her leg range. Defensively, they were steady by it was a fourth quarter hit from @JumboBumbo (Randall Jimmerson) that forced a fumble and put this game completely out of potential comeback range for the Seawolves. It was a dominant victory and may be the single best that Jay Cue has this season.
Tijuana 24 over Grey Ducks 3 - When you see 24 points, you often think that the offense went out there and did their job. That is not always the case. Tijuana only managed 286 offensive yards, converted 5 of 18 third downs, lost in time of possession, and had one of their lowest rushing totals on the season, so their defense stepped up for a second consecutive week. The first half lead was authored mostly on the back of @S O U P (Randy Vuxta) who had two huge third down catch conversions that directly resulted in points for Tijuana. But it was a 48 yard interception return for a touchdown by Caleb Beck that put this game permanently out of hand. @inverted96 (Kyle Idlewyld) and Barnabas Cole really stepped it up in this game as they combined for five tackles for a loss and between the two, and in nine tackles they allowed less than a yard between them. They combined for eight drive killing tackles between them, forcing the Grey Ducks to punt time and time again. It wasn’t all bleak though as 10 tackles from @Acsolap (Thor Kirkby) and four tackles for a loss from Hal Fassingit were a big part of why the Tijuana rushing attack hit a rare speed bump, but offensively they simply couldn’t get it together.
