This is going to be the story of one of the least-hyped draft picks in DSFL history. Measuring up at a whopping 5'7 180lbs there is very low expectations for one of the last picks of the most recent draft. Hailing from a near unknown school called Elon University with a torn ACL his last season, lets write a great story about this unknown player, as it will probably be the only news he will receive in his career.
Austin grew up in New Hampshire... Is that even a state? I thought that area up there was just called New Engand and they ate lobstah and clam chowdah or something... Anyways, Austin was dedicated to play in the NSFL ever since he got a NERF football for his 6th birthday. (Nobody explained the realities to him of having parents that were 5'4 and 5'5). As he grew up and was constantly bullied for being shorter than all the girls of the same age, he was always holding out for his growth spurt. It finally came in his freshman year of high school! He shot up 7 inches! That brought Austin up to a towering 5'6. He could finally quell his fears that he would have to legally register as a dwarf for his entire life. He put in more hours than any other player on the field and in the weight room.. He even brought his lunch in an old-school metal lunch box in hopes of being labeled a "lunch-pail guy" one day by future commentators in the bright lights of the NSFL. He was able to make the other New Hampshire All State athletes (all 10 of them) look like scrubs and was able to a college offer from Elon University.
Elon University is an awful D1 school that nobody has ever heard of. That is until Duke Basketball Grayson Allen managed to make national news by tripping an Elon Basketball player in a 40 point blowout that Duke had to pay Elon $500,000 just to get stomped in. On the other hand, their football team has never made the news, good or bad. The year before Austin arrived they managed to not win a single game and they were able to continue this record through his freshman year there. It was really a stunning display of absolute shit. The football team was so bad that the cheerleaders had a full-blown routine and song for when Elon got a first down. It was not uncommon to see a goose egg on the scoreboard.
Everything changed for the better sophomore year as somehow the Elon coach was able to find another job and Elon was forced to bring in a new coach. This coach was able to see the pure raw talent that Austin was bringing from the mountains of New Hampshire. Austin was made the 3rd down running back early in the season and became the every down back by the end of the year. Austin ended his sophomore season being very productive and proving he had good hands. Maybe his dreams of being a discount Darren Sproles could come true.
His junior season game against Wake Forest, a college people have actually heard of, Austin had a breakout game that some NSFL scouts actually saw, putting up 134 yards rushing and 1TD on 20 carries and 107 yards on 9 receptions with 2TDs. This put him on the radar and Elon actually ended the season with a respectable record on 8-1 in conference and qualifying for the Conference Championship. Austin was the leading rusher in the CAA and had the most receptions and receiving TDs in the conference. This is when Austins story turns dark again. In the title game he tore his ACL in the 3rd quarter and Elon went on to lose the game. Elon's two year head coach that turned a win-less team into near conference champions got an offer he couldn't turn down from Wake Forest. With the good coach leaving, a torn ACL, and already having recieved scouting attention, there were too many unknowns for Austin to stay for another season in college. He declared for the NSFL draft.
Austin has run out of the woods of New Hampshire to see if he can run the NSFL. Stay tuned to see if this is the last news story you see on him.
