Herb Altee, a 3 year starter at the University of Virginia and current ACC Defensive player of the year has proven more than ready to join the ranks of the NSFL and contribute right away.
A hard-hitting safety, Altee was initially written off as a college player that just wanted to knock the head off of any receiver who happened to cross his path. But under the tutelage of revered Virginia DBs coach, Vat Jengo, Altee has grown into a player with an above average football IQ, and the hands to make big plays time and again.
The biggest example of this was in the Cavaliers rivalry matchup with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg earlier this season. With 3:38 left in the game, and the Hokies driving for what would have been the game winning touchdown, Altee made a fantastic play, picking off Hokies QB Manson Vick and proceeding to run around the field with the ball while all the remaining time ran off the clock before finally taking a knee, clinching the victory for the Cavs.
Its plays like these that have NSFL GMs salivating at the thought of such a cerebral safety. Don't forget the team owners who are becoming entranced by the idea of all the marketing opportunities a name like Herb Altee (and his trademarked slogan uttered after an interception or big hit: ITS SLEEPYTIME!) can bring.
Look for Altee to be one of the top safeties off the board in next weeks draft.
