Its no secret that the majority of the Norfolk Seawolves are double dipping in one (or both) of MLR or MLN and the NSFL. Through random happenstance (and maybe some tampering) a whopping 13 players playing in one of the fake baseball leagues. They have all made Norfolk their home in the DSFL, but what if they all shared a team in MLR? Being enough for a roster in MLR that begs the question- How many wins would they have? And would they make the playoffs?
GM'd by Rub A. Chikin, the team would look something like:
For pitching, their ace would be Cal Lidous, who has amassed an incredible 1.984 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) and a 1.27 Earned Run Average (ERA). Next up in the bullpen would be Pie. Pie is putting up an amazing season in MLR, they are 3rd in the league with a whopping 9.1 K/6. They are striking out 1.5 hitters an inning! Pie's WAR is .733. The GM could also call on himself to pitch. In MLR Rub A. Chikn has posted a respectable .499 WAR and 3.42 ERA. Last but not least, the closer would be Master Cashier. They have put up 1.641 WAR with a nice 26 strikeouts. This Pitching staff is worth a combined 4.857! Certainly a top pitching staff indeed.
Now on to the hitters:
Starting off on a High note, Robin Reynolds is putting a nice season together with 1.17 WAR so far. Robin's AVG Difference between swing and pitch is 197.77, good for top 5 in the league. Robin has also posted 2 Multi-HR games. Robin plays 1B/3B. Next up is Jeff Dingerhitter, known to this league as Jeff Personsacker, plays for the Phillies back in MLR. Living up to his name, Jeff has hit 2 Home Runs and batted in 11 runners! This slots Jeff in with a hearty .864 WAR to his name. Jeff plays SS/CF/C. Just behind Jeff in WAR is Bobby "Freakin" Portis, rocking a cool .861 WAR. Bobby has an OPS (On Base %+ Slugging %) of 1.303. He is hitting for power and hets on base a lot. Way to go Bobby. Next up, Lemon. Lemon is a DH, with .323 WAR this season. He also GM's the Yankees. Next on the WAR leaderboard for Norfolk is Wavy Gravy. Wavy Gravy has a .055 WAR this season. Gravy plays LF/CF Not the highest on the team, but still positive. Our last positive player on the team (at least until my next AB, also ignore that I was at -.047 last AB), is yours truly, Thelonius Junk. Junk is at .033 WAR this season. He is hitting above the Junk line, a term coined by his team that signifies when a player is hitting over .200, named after the aforementioned Thelonius Junk. Junk is finally hitting over the Junk line again with a BA of .214. Junk plays CF/RF. Our next player is JZ, who I could not find a WAR stat for. Slashing .258 Avg/.281 OBP/.387 SLG, he has similar, but slightly better stats than Junk. I would estimate JZ having somewhere around .05 to .1 WAR. JZ is a 3B/Utility player in MLN.
If you are not aware, WAR can also be negative. And before we get into the souls with negative WAR, playing Fake Baseball is no easy task, fun yes, but not easy. Also there is more worth in personality and activity than with hitting. With that said, our first player with negative WAR is Juniped Catfish, with an almost positive -.088 WAR. Juni is still very valuable in his attitude and clubhouse activity. Juni also is tied for 5th with 2 triples! Juniped Catfish plays 1B/3B. Last but not least (in our hearts) is Tequila Sunrise, with a -.092 WAR. Granted, Tequila can earn this back pretty easily as they only have 2 PA in the league. Not as much playing time as some other players, but they still have a place in our hearts. This hitting corps puts up 3.766 WAR!
Now the way the team sits now they cannot field a legal lineup but with some position swaps this team would have a dangerous team, with potent pitching and respectable hitting. Not to mention the lively and bustling clubhouse that they are seeing in Norfolk right now. A mock lineup, ignoring position requirements might look something like:
1: Juniped Catfish
2: Bobby "Freakin" Portis
3: Robin Reynolds
4: Jeff Dingerhitter/Personsacker
5: Lemon
6: Wavy Gravy
7: JZ
8: Tequila Sunrise
9: Thelonius Junk
9: Lemon
P: Cal Lidous
Lastly, what you all came for: The total WAR this team puts up is....
8.623! This team would have 8 to 9 wins on average as a MLR team.
Great, but now you're asking, well Thel where would that put them in the Playoff Race that is happening RIGHT NOW in MLR? And I would tell you great question, and I have answers. For the sake of playoffs I am going to round the wins to 9. If you complain that I should have it be 8, too bad. Its my article and my team I can do what I want, and also 8.6 is closer to 9 anyways.
In the playoff hunt, 9 wins would put you at the top of every division except for the AL East, the AL Central, or the NL East. BUT it would still be good enough for a wild card spot. This Norfolk Seawolves MLR team would have a good shot to make the playoffs! Yay... I guess, baseball skills don't always transfer over to football. Thats the end of the article folks! Nothing left here...
Oh ok fine, if this team had 8 wins, they would be less well off in regards to winning their division (except if you put them in the AL West, where any team to get 8 wins would be lucky lol). They would still have a spot in both league's Wild Card spot, though not on top as they would have been with 9 wins.
So there you have it! The Norfolk Seaswolves would (likely) make the playoffs or be close to it if they were in MLR. As for football, only time can tell, may the future be kind to us. Until next time, I've been the best Kicker/Punter media/graphic designer guy- Thelonius Junk. Have a good night.
