[div align=\\\"center\\\"]There, I said it. Colorado has won the draft! A complete surprise to some since they did not exactly have some sort of amazing flow of picks but I like what they have done to shore up that team. People might even ask what I would have done differently if I were the Colorado GM and I got two words for you ... Absolutely Nothing! They made all the right selections and they will be in PRIME position for improvement but lets take a look at these fine folks.
#36 - MIN - Pancake Maker - OL - Athlete
Pancake Maker is at a position that is often difficult to crack at a base level, and given his position and scouting report? He is not expected to do much and his cash will be covered by the DSFL team as he will be on a single season contract. This is a 'prove it' deal and there are A LOT of doubters that aren't certain if he can cut it at the next level. This looks like a bad start given how I said I wouldn't change anything but this is a swing late in the draft-- Which I surely see as a miss. Too bad they missed out on stud WR Darnell Johnson who may just turn a corner.
#18 - TIJ - Ben Kenobi - TE - Vertical Threat
Some people were outraged that he did not get the nod for TE of the Year but these things can happen during award season, but Kenobi has been a fine selection as he inks a 3 year deal with the final being a mutual. His numbers in the DSFL were not exactly mind blowing but he really picked it up as the season closed out, and he will be back down to improve on his skills. I think he will need some seasoning if he wants a call up, a lot more but those flashes you saw late in the season may pay off. It's never bad to add some weapons in the draft for future use. The Yeti have a similar Tight End in King so maybe this is the type they prefer to bring along for their system.
#16 - MIN - Silver Banana - K/P - Accuracy Threat
A massive steal in the draft as Colorado pulls in a kicker/punter of high value. The strength in his leg isn't exactly lightning but he has done solid for a championship level squad in Minnesota and he performed fairly well as a kicker in the DSFL as he gets it between the posts when it mattered the most but the real reason he got picked here is his punting ability. Banana was voted as punter of the year and is expected to repeat that performance for the Grey Ducks. His accuracy is lethal and he put the ball out within the 2 more than any other punter. Jordan Jackson better watch his back because he will lose his job if he can't keep up with the lethal Silver Banana.
#6 - MIN - Thor Kirkby - LB - Speed Rusher
Colorado has to be happy shoring up their defense with Kirkby, getting him at 6th overall was a blessing and they seem to have scouted the Grey Ducks heavily through out all this. He was rated the best linebacker coming out of this draft and his poise reminds scouts of some of the greats a the inside linebacker position. He came 4th in the entire league in tackles and is lauded for his raw ability to move on the field and shoot forward at any given moment. He has the strength to back it up and the tackling technique to show off his finesse capabilities. I have a lot of hope for him after he inked an 8M first year contract, but he will be headed down to Minnesota with the intention of repeating. He's a different breed than Mo Berry and Gabagool but should be a worthy successor to keep this train of improvement moving.
Four of Colorado's picks came out of Minnesota so it seems like they are drafting on championship pedigree, integrity and character so I think they are looking for the right things. They definitely are a winner from this draft and I look forward to further moves they make.[/div]
