Hello, Johnny Rocket here, formerly known as Demetrius Wiley. I could have stayed with Wiley but after going inactive after the opening week, I felt like he was a lost cause, despite showing some good success in a backup role. Now I come here with my second installment affectionately named Johnny Rocket. Let me preface this article by saying that whichever team ranks first and whichever ranks last, I do not have any qualms about where I go at all. I have never been the type to say I will only play for so-and-so, at least not when I have had no experience with any team outside a brief encounter with the Sabercats. So again, I am one hundred percent open to playing wherever and will give whatever team I get drafted to every opportunity to win me over. With that said, I will only be signing one year deals, I have gotten burned in the past signing longer deals so I want to control my own destiny each season. Just a fair warning to any GM or member of a team reading this so they can know that information before taking a chance on me. Anyways, all this rambling, let's get it started!
1. Orange County Otters
I have to put Orange County Otters first on my list because of one player. Johnny Blaze, quarterback of the Otters, and good friend of mine that I met many years ago in a football sim. I would love to continue to have an opportunity to play alongside Blaze, and it would be cool to catch passes from him as well. Not only is Blaze a big draw for me but I know Shaka very well also and it is always a good time playing alongside him. The Otters already possess two talented wide receivers but all I want to be is a specialist slot receiver so playing behind two better players is not a problem for me. If there were any team in the league that I could see myself continuing to re-up on my contract with at this current stage it would be the Otters mostly due to Blaze and Shaka.
2. Las Vegas Legion
Expansion teams are always fun and I think I would have fun being a part of one. I really like the look of the Las Vegas Legion not only aesthetically but I see they are really getting out there and trying to piece together a competitive roster with many moves already. I like playing for proactive front offices and I think I would be very content playing for the Legion and the guys running them. Not too mention they could offer me a chance at a lot of playing time, which isn't a huge draw for me with what I am trying to do, but it definitely doesn't hurt.
3. Yellowknife Wraiths
Thus far only one team has contact me about potential draft interest and that would be the Yellowknife Wraiths. They could be a pickle next season if they lose top wide out Josh Garden but hey that just means more playing time for me. Even if they are able to keep Garden, they still have a big need on paper for more receiving help. The playing time is a draw and also quarterback Chris Orosz, who like Boss, I have known for quite awhile. Even though I have no idea where Yellowknife is, the fact that they reached out so quick, and have a couple players I am familiar with is something I could be down for.
4. Philadelphia Liberty
Here comes the second expansion team and again the appeal of a lot of playing time is a major draw for my interest in the Liberty. I have yet to see them make any sort of splash in the early stages of pre-off season but that is not much of a concern for me. Good things come to those who wait and the Liberty may be looking to take that approach. The man taking over for the Liberty is a wide receiver himself but that is fine and could mean he could have the inside track to signing free agent quarterback Josh Bercovici. Bercovici has shown great improvement despite playing a backup role and that kind of dedication in a quarterback is exactly what you need from someone playing the most important position to the team. Now if they don't sign him and have to go with a young quarterback, so be it, it doesn't make me want to play here any less.
5. Baltimore Hawks
I will admit, I am not very fond of the name, Baltimore Hawks just has a weird flow to it. However, team names aren't a factor in deciding if I want to play for a team or not. It seems the Hawks could use some receiving help, especially in the slot, and that is all I hope to provide. They have a solid defensive foundation and this could be a situation where more offensive help could really help round this team out and get into contention. Again, not fond of the name, but would not mind being part of the process.
6. San Jose Sabercats
I got a small taste of playing for this team and I think they have a lot of potential. They had a rough season and it got rougher with the trade for Ethan Hunt and his sudden desire to want out. Not only that but they lost my original player and possibly losing their other running back. They have some holes to fill and it could be a season or two before they get into playoff contention. The only drawback for me though is the fact that I already played for them and have a small desire for a fresh start as a player and for my team. However if they were to pick me again, which I would doubt after I failed them once, but if they did I would try my hardest and amend my previous failure for them.
7. Arizona Outlaws
Looking back at it as I write this, I probably would have the Outlaws higher, but I will leave them in this spot. I typically like to join teams that need immediate help and that is not the Outlaws. However, despite their upcoming Ultimus appearance, they have a spot for a slot receiver and certainly have a big time quarterback that could deliver me passes in Vincent Draxel. The appeal of helping a struggling team is not there but who in their right mind would not enjoy playing for a strong team? I certainly would not mind playing here in the least bit.
8. Colorado Yeti
The main reason the Outlaws are seven is the same reason the Yeti are at eight. They are very good and do not need any help. They do have six upcoming free agents on the roster but only one of those was a true impact player so the roster will remain strong next season. They have two very good receivers and one solid one so the fit may not be there for me. Roster strength and the appearance of a lack of playing opportunity is why they are last for me. However if I were able to earn playing time having a quarterback like Logan Noble throwing to me would be a big time bonus. I will say though that if I end up here, it would likely be a stopgap team for me while I get better, because I can't see myself carving out a significant role on this team as of right now.
