At a time when we have so many new faces around the league, I wanted to take a second and introduce the YellowKnife Wraiths to the new players in town! First off, I am flyeaglesfly29 and I am one of the Co-Gms for the Wraiths. My counter-part is @shadyshoelace and we are very excited about the direction this league is going in after the huge influx of new talent over the last few days!
So let me tell you about the Wraiths organization:
Ultimus Trophies: 1
Conference Championships: 6
Division Championships: 7
Playoffs Appearances: 12
Hall of Famers: 5 (Boss Tweed, Fuego Wozy, Alexandre LeClair, Josh Garden, Dermot Lavelle)
For the 3rd time in 4 seasons the YellowKnife Wraiths will be competing for an Ultimus Trophy and this time it is in back to back seasons. In YK we feel like there is a reason we are able to compete each season and that reason is adaptability. We do our very best to adapt to this ever changing league and use what we have to create the best possible results.
As you can see above, the Wraiths have been in the playoffs 12 out of the 20 seasons this league has existed. Before my time, during our tenure, and after my last day as a Wraith I have nothing but confidence that this team will compete in and out each season.
In my opinion, the following statements are the 4 most important things you should consider when you think about the YellowKnife Wraiths:
#1 We never draft based upon scheme or need. We draft based upon who the top talent is available and we figure out how we can change our system to utilize them.
#2 We try and cultivate an environment that makes free agents want to come to us.
#3 We are a team that doesn't believe in tanking, we believe that by trusting our players and our coaches to give it everything they've got every single game and every single season is the only way to be successful.
#4 We know that one player will never make this team.
Beyond our goals as a team and the creed we live by in terms of creating an awesome place to play, I want to take the time right now to introduce you to some of the players I am lucky to call teammates. In the list below you will see everything from rookies to tenured veterans.
On offense, the Wraiths are led by an amazing group of guys that I wouldn't trade for the world: Cooter Bigsby (QB, @timeconsumer), Mathias Hanyadi (RB, @CLG Rampage), Nate Swift (WR, @Bigred1580, and Rayne Gordon (WR, @RainDelay). Sure, these are not all of our players, but these are the guys who are leading the way on the offensive side of the ball for us.
Cooter has been at the helm for quite some time now and is one of the perennial quarterbacks in the NSFL. Bigsby has been named MVP 1 time in his career and was also the OROTY in his rookie season. While he is awesome at many things, it's the weapons he has around him that make him even more of a household name. A very young core of Hanyadi and Rayne Gordon will continue to power this team for seasons to come. While Gordon is close to completing his rookie season, he has been a welcomed addition to this team. Hanyadi is easily one of the most versatile running backs in this league and he's definitely someone you want on your fantasy teams (hint hint)!
Lastly, I want to shout out Nate Swift! Swift is our team leading receiver that is on pace to become a hall of famer when it's all said and done. Swift is consistency over 1000 yards receiving and is game wrecker in his own right. Not to mention he's an even better locker room presence.
Now on to that vaunted Wraiths defense where we have a great mix of senior leadership and youthful badasses! On the defensive line we are lead by Nero Alexander (DE, shadyshoelace) who is on his way to a HOF career like Swift, but for a different reason: He likes to tackle your running back before he ever gets to the line of scrimmage! At linebacker our youth begins to shine through with Maurice Virtanen, a young stud linebacker who has the versatility to play anywhere on this defense and I mean that literally. He has spent time on the defensive line rushing the qb, playing linebacker, and even in coverage at nickle back against slot receivers!
In the secondary is we have another young and rising star in Mervin Leonard who showed this season that he is more than capable of locking down opposing receivers! We are very excited about this guy's future. I also now have a chance to talk about that senior leadership that we have on this defense and that comes from a League MVP and Defensive POTY in Danny Grithead (S/LB, @Trautner), a CBOTY in Johnny Snuggles (@manicmav36), and the man we call "sexy voice" (you'll learn eventually) Giannis Kroustis (S, @`AirCrou`). These are 3 of the pieces of this defense that we are so proud and lucky to call Wraiths. These guys make plays all over the field and they are a huge reason why we are in the playoffs year in and year out.
Overall, I wanted to write this article to give you guys a little insight in to the Wraiths organization because I genuinely love being a part of this team. Our LR is very down to earth and relaxed and I think we all enjoy being together with one common goal: To win Ultimus trophies. Our guys are almost always willing to lend a helping hand and I invite you to reach out to any of them, myself included with questions. Each of us have been where a lot of you new guys are right now and we understand that things can be a little daunting at first.
Regardless of where you end up or who you want your player to become, this league is about having fun with people who share common interests, the main one being football! Now go earn some TPE so we can draft you to the best team in the league and Stay Spooky My Friends!
