HOLDEN SUMMERS PRESS CONFERENCE
Holden: Good evening everybody. Thank you for being here. As some of you may know, there was a rumor spreading between some NSFL war rooms the last few days. This rumor stated that I was planning to quit the NSFL. I am here to tell the media, the General managers around the league and my fans that this rumor is 100% false.
I have worked hard my entire life to reach my dream of becoming a professional football player. Last offseason, the first step into reaching that dream occurred when I was drafted by the Minnesota Grey Ducks. And what a beginning that was. We worked hard, we competed and we won a championship. It was a great way to get acquainted with the league but as I said, it was just the beginning. I have high expectations for myself and I don’t plan on letting up.
When draft day comes and if I’m fortunate enough to get drafted to a team, I will bring a promise. I will do everything I can to help my team win a championship. Does that sound like a quitter to you?
I will now answer questions.
Reporter #1: Hi Holden. Do you have any idea who started the rumor that you were quitting?
Holden: No, I don’t. I don’t know if it was another player who was jealous of what I was doing on the field or someone who just wanted to stir drama for the offseason. In either case, I feel sorry for them. If they are a player, perhaps they should focus on playing the game instead of attacking someone else in the draft class.
Reporter #2: Good evening, Mr. Summers. What was your reaction when you heard the rumor?
Holden: At first? I was mad. I didn’t understand how something this false could become something people around the league heard. Then, I was disappointed. While trying to wrangle what exactly happened, I started wondering if someone was trying to tank my draft stock. Maybe someone wanted me to fall to them? Maybe someone wanted to be drafted before me? Whatever it is, it’s sad. Let what you do on the field dictate where you get drafted. Let your stats and drive be what GMs draft you for.
Reporter #3: Mr. Summers, what was it like to win the Ultimini?
Holden: it was awesome. When I was drafted by the Grey Ducks, I knew they had just won the championship. And they wanted to go back to back and win again. It was a great feeling to know that woelkers and Bauer picked me to help with that. I remember my first day when I joined the locker room and the energy was already there. We knew we could win again and we did. It was also such a great way for woelkers to end his tenure with the team. The Ducks will miss him but he went out with one hell of a bang. It was awesome being there for that.
Reporter #4: What was it like to be drafted 7th overall by the Grey Ducks?
Holden: It was cool! I did not expect to be picked that early to be honest. I was new and a bit of an unknown. I tried to stay active and keep my name out there but I also knew that there were other players who had already played before or ones with more experience than me. I did my best to help justify that pick for them.
Reporter #4: Do you think you’ll get drafted that early again?
Holden: Think? No. Hope? Definitely. I know I have a lot to offer any team that takes a chance on me. I’m here for the long haul and I plan to help teams compete. I’ve already won an Ultimini, it’s time for the Ultimus.
Reporter #5: What teams do you want to be drafted by?
Holden: Are you trying to get me in trouble? *laugh* You know, I’m just so blessed that I get to play the sport I love. As I mentioned before, this has been my lifelong dream. I was out playing football in the street when I was 8 and scrawny. Now I’m here and I’m ready to play hard no matter which team drafts me.
Reporter #5: Yeah but you must be looking for some specific qualities when it comes to a team?
Holden: Yeah, my main hope for my future team is that they have an active locker room. I play better when I have good chemistry with my teammates. I work harder knowing that I have friends counting on me. Obviously there’s more to the sport than the locker room but that feels like the most important part to me.
Reporter #5: And if you get drafted to a team with no activity, you can always quit.
Holden: Too soon! It was you who started the rumor, wasn’t it?!
Reporter #5: *laugh* No, no. Not me.
Holden: Well good. I’m gonna keep an eye on you just in case, though.
Reporter #6: Mr. Summers, you joined the league with 13 players you knew prior to signing up. You ended up on a DSFL team with none of them. Are you hoping to be drafted to the same team as some of these players?
Holden: Yeah, yeah. The Slayers. We all play on a fake baseball team together called the Sunnydale Slayers. We actually just won our second championship this past week. But yeah. I’d love to play with a few of them on the same team. It’s not required for me to have fun and work hard though. I’m down to playing with players I know and players I don’t.
Reporter #7: Mr. Summers. Did you make an omelette today?
Holden: Man, ever since I did that interview where I talked about omelettes, people have been coming up to me and asking about my omelettes! Yes, I had one today. Yes, it was amazing. Today I went with my usual, Turkey with sharp cheddar cheese. It’s simple and delicious.
Reporter #8: Final question for you, Holden. What do you plan to accomplish in the NSFL?
Holden: Everything. That might sound ridiculous but it’s true. I am not here to finish second place. I am here to be the best I can be and to help my team win. I had a dream that everyone in the world would know my name. I want kids to choose me to be their role model. I want to win the Ultimus multiple times. I want to break records. I want to be in the Hall of Fame.
I have high goals and that’s what feeds me. That drive to always be my best keeps me focused. There is a phrase that is always repeating in my head, “Best Today, Better Tomorrow.” Today I will do the absolute best I can and tomorrow I will strive to be even better.
Thank you all for joining me tonight. I guess I’ll see you all on draft night.
