Josh Bercovici has had a whirlwind of a first season in the NSFL. From the beginning it was more than evident that Bercovici was going to be a player who was at the forefront of the media circus, and that has been an understatement. Even though the news coverage has waned over the second half of the season you cannot deny his impact, even with just playing three games this season. Bercovici has passed on time and time again but teams in the NSFL, but now it's all about to come full circle with the Expansion Draft looming and two starting jobs open- one of which that will be filled him yours truly. But, in order to understand what next season is going to mean for Bercovici we need to take a look back at what has led up to this moment. Enjoy.
Trump Athletics Endorses Berc
- yep, President Donald J. Trump's business, now being run by his children, announced the expansion of their business into the world of athletics, and quickly signed Josh Bercovici as their first ever athlete. As expected, the media lost their minds for awhile, which only made things even better for Berc and Trump Athletics. But, on the flip side, it may have rubbed some of the GMs the wrong way, as we definitely know people these days are easily offended and it's likely some of the GMs needed an inhaler and a safe space safety pin to regain their composure at this gross and disgusting event.
Orange County Drafts Berc 96th Overall
- Forget Trump Athletics, this is when the real drama began to unfold. Drafted 96th overall, the Otters had no intention of using Berc at QB and promptly asked him to play defense, to which he gave them a big fat "no". Orange County also drafted quarterbacks Ethan Hunt and Mike Boss, further muddying the waters at the position. All three quarterbacks refused to change positions and the Otters had an old fashioned three way Mexican stand off on their hands, and announced they would compete for the job during the pre-season.
Berc Makes Most of Playing Time
- After Mike Boss tossed six interceptions and Bercovici begin his very loud and boisterous campaign to be the stater, the Otters elected to give Bercovici a chance, and he responded by going 2-1 with 4 TDs and 4 Int, showcasing an ability to perform under pressure and do so at a high level. Although a small sample size, it was very obvious that Berc belonged at QB for somebody, and siting him on the bench was almost criminal.
Berc, Boss "Bully" GM into Quitting
- Remember when I said some of the GMs might have needed an inhaler and a safe space? Well one of those GMs is definitely former Otters GM Anthony Petrakis, who claimed that Mike Boss and Josh Bercovici were "bullying" him during the quarterback mess, a situation that all involved agreed he handled absolutely terribly. Petrakis didn't communicate, ran the team like it was the YMCA and the QBs didn't know what the fuck the actual plan was, except that somewhere along the line Petrakis decided it was a good idea to continue the competition INTO the regular season. With mounting pressure from Berc and Boss, who repeatedly trashed him in the media over his inability to make decisions and gross mismanagement, Petrakis quit like a coward as he couldn't handle the pressure.
Otters Thrive Under New Leadership
- Led by Shaka, the Otters management quickly regained the lost stability and named Boss their starter, putting an end to the uncertainty, allowing the team to put their focus on winning games instead of wondering who their QB is going to be that week. This resulted in the Otters making the playoffs and falling in the AFSC championship game to Arizona.
San Jose Trades for Ethan Hunt, Controversy After
- The first team to realize they'd made a mistake on draft night was San Jose, and they made the call to the Otters to see about landing one of their three star quarterbacks. San Jose, however, didn't even ask about Bercovici, instead asking about Boss and Hunt, and eventually landing Hunt, a mobile quarterback. Hunt was unable to get San Jose to the playoffs, and shortly afterwards announced he wanted out of San Jose, creating some drama and once again highlighting a potentially poor decision from San Jose management. Meanwhile, Bercovici continued to train and put in work, shaking his head at the baffling decisions being made in this league.
Arizona Comes Calling, Passes on Berc
- The second team to wind up with a quarterback who has gone MIA is Arizona, who although are currently playing for the title, will need a new quarterback next season with Draxel falling way behind on the progression. Arizona called OC before the deadline, but once again they didn't bother to ask about Berc, only inquiring about Mike Boss. Outlaws WR King Bronko would eventually change positions to QB and has been training to take over next season. A risky move for sure, especially since they could of just traded for Bercovici. But, nope, Arizona would rather have their WR change positions...you can't make this shit up.
Otters Fall In Playoffs, Boss Continues Pick Throwing
- In fitting fashion, the Otters lost to Arizona on the back of four interceptions from Boss, who was unable to beat Arizona all season. Interceptions were his Achilles heel all season, and you could certainly say Berc got the last laugh as he watched Boss throw away the season. It wouldn't be a reach to assume that the Otters and their fans have to be wondering how things might have turned out with Berc at the helm.
Expansion Announced
- with the Expansion announcement it was all but confirmed that Bercovici, on an expiring contract with a NMC would soon be signing with either the Legion or Liberty and finally getting the reigns. It's been a long season for Josh, but he has kept his nose clean and trained hard all season despite being passed on over and over and over again. It would be an understatement to say he will be out for blood next season as he looks to make sure everyone pays for not believing in him.
"it's been quite a season, I'll tell ya that much. I've been routinely passed on, to the point that it's just fucking insulting. While every team passed up on me in the draft, the real insult was from San Jose and Arizona- Fuck them. I am making it part of my career goals to absolutely fuck them up every chance I get- the bloodlust is real...On the other side of that, I'm very grateful for how Shaka and co here in OC have treated me, even though I think I was the best man for the job, I respected their decision- but mark my words, Im also out to make sure they regret choosing Boss over me." - Josh Bercovici
