[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Immanuel Blackstone (#2) NSFL Scouting Report
Written by Michael Magic[/div]
Strengths:
- Devastating pass rusher
- Had speed and strength
- One of the better tacklers off the edge
- Hard hitter
- Has NSFL connections and mentorship
- Proven success at the College and DSFL levels
Weaknesses:
- Had issues with concussions during College
- Average agility level
- Average level of game knowledge
- Only above average tackling form
- Bad hands
Summary:
It feels unfair to even have Immanuel Blackstone on this list. The man is an absolute monster off the edge, and NSFL tackles are going to have nightmares of this man as soon as he hits the field. There are so many way Blackstone can get to the ball carrier (QB or RB), but he only needs a couple. Most of them involve putting tackles on their backside. The man is incredibly strong. And fast on top of that. He’s going to get to the ball carrier, it’s a matter of when.
Teams with Blackstone on one side have enjoyed the advantage of being able to force an opponent to play to one side of the field. I fully expect that sort of pressure to carry into the NSFL. However, that is a reputation that is earned. In his time in the DSFL, he made 71 total tackles (20 more than any other DE), 22 of which were TFL’s. He also had 9 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles with 1 fumble recovery, and 1 safety. Safe to say, the man can play.
Something he might struggle dealing with as he moves to the next level is elusive running backs and QB’s. In the DSFL, the game is simplier. However as you move up, team’s throw more complicated run schemes, with fakes and mobile dual threat QB’s. That might be take some time to get down. Fortunately, there are not a ton of teams that can pull that off, if any. Really, the only downside to picking up Blackstone is knowing that you’ll have to pay him eventually.
Player Comparison: Joey Bosa –
Joey Bosa. There, I said it. Immanuel Blackwell gives me a very strong Joey Bosa feeling. Dominant in every area that counts, the only thing that may stand in Blackwell way, is the salary cap. I don’t see him holding out over a rookie contract. But I can see him waiting to get paid after that.
He’s got the same build as Bosa, and the same attitude towards the game. Blackwell is a student, who may very well be gearing up to be the master. Don’t pass on this guy. You don’t pass on talent like this.
