Earlier this week it was reported that DSFL QB Tom Sofa was being tested for Coronavirus following a grocery store incident. The results were that Sofa had indeed contracted Covid-36 and afterwards the entire Myrtle Beach line-up had to each be tested one by one. The league then decided to test every single player in the league just to make sure that it has not spread to any other player. Many cities within the DSFL have already suspended gatherings of over 1k persons and after this the DSFL itself has followed the same course. All games will now be played behind closed doors with only essential staff within the stadium.
Because this case had developed so quickly, the sim team had no choice but to postpone all of week 1 in order to better ready themselves for the pandemic, and to make sure the proper steps had been taken in order to keep the players and staff safe from the harmful disease that is affecting thousands within America. Now the first week of games will be played 2 weeks after the original start date as the league waits for the test results to come back, and you can expect the league to function normally as soon as tomorrow.
As for Tom Sofa he will be kept under close quarantine until he is fully rid of the disease. When caught it was only in the early stages which is good news in the face of the league as it means it had less chances to spread to teammate and officials. Sofa was present throughout the first 3 weeks of the pre-season holding snaps on field goal and extra point attempts, but had to sit out week 4 due to illness. As mentioned in the article above, Sofa was likely infected following pre season week 3. The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers hosted the Minnesota Grey Ducks and completely hosed them 26-14. After the game however Minnesota tourists who were later diagnosed themselves were seen shopping in the same grocery store Sofa shops at.
Sofa is said to return very late in the season, as late as week 10 as he recovers from this disease; as for the Buccaneers they will be starting returning QB Chris Ramos as they hope to capture an Ultimini Championship. We can only wait and see how the QB situation will play out when Sofa is medically cleared to play again.
