It would be an extremely bad thing for Douglas Quaid if he didn’t have football practice or a game to play. Football is the only thing preventing his sanity from cracking. All he knows is football. If the NSFL decided to suspend the season Quaid would probably become a drifter, wandering to a small town in the Northwest looking for long lost friends. He would probably get mixed up with a brutal and intolerant sheriff that would lead to his arrest, and eventual escape. It would become a state wide manhunt. As Quaid has flashbacks of his football playing days only his former Kansas City Coyotes mentor Coach Howl could hope to restrain him and prevent probable carnage. Howl would ensure a peaceful ending, but Quaid would be sent to a labor camp to serve hard time. Then one day unannounced Coach Howl would arrive and offer a special assignment to Quaid, and in doing so he would be able to lobby for a presidential pardon. Quaid would accept this offer and be thrust back into the ‘Nam on a reconnaissance mission. But this mission would be more than what meets the eye, and once again Quaid would have to take matters into his own hands. (206 words)
I would definitely head back home and check on my parents first. Of course I would drive back to Oakland all by my lonesome and when I get there, I would sit on the porch and talk to them through the screen door. We all have to do our part to get through this pandemic, even if that means separating from those we love. I have my own personal gym so most of my time would of course be spent there in preparation for the season returning. I don't think we would get the opportunity to play more tune up games prior to the games that count, so it is imperative that we keep our bodies in the best possible condition. I would hate for there to be any drop off in my play. I would also like to set up some group video chats with other defensive players so we could keep our defensive minds as trained as our bodies. Other than the most obvious things, I would just use the time to relax and center myself. I would blow the dust off of my Xbox and get some gaming in and try out some new recipes in the kitchen. I would use this time to improve my non football side mostly.

It's a Wednesday night in beautiful Yellowknife and the boys are bored sick of self isolating. Against the recommendations of every medical professional in the world we put on our N95 masks, load up Cooter's 1996 Chevrolet Suburban with a burnt out headlight and head off to the local strip club to burn off some steam. As we walk in the door we're greeted by one of the local favourites, Claudette, who is wearing an entire bio hazard suit with two holes cut out where her fun bags are. We walk to the front of the stage and take our front row seats at perv row. To ensure we're properly social distancing we all leave an empty seat between us. The first dancer of the night hits the stage and a half buzzed Danny Grithead yells, "take is off". The stripper then stops, looks Grithead dead in the eyes through her biohazard suit and gives him a 15 minutes lecture on the importance of flattening the curve. Needless to say that killed the mood so we loaded back into Cooter's Suburban and headed home. The strip club wasn't as much fun as usual but we all learned a valuable lesson from Precious the stripper. Needless to say, this virus sucks and is wrecking all of our fun.

If the NSFL were to suspend the season, it would be a very sad day for Friedrich Vequain. However, he said it would finally mean he could go about his day without constantly being in fear of Thomas Passman. He said not to put that in. We are putting it in. Friedrich said he loves the game of football and it is all his life has been since the ripe age of 4. He said he would miss the joy of running around and catching footballs with defenders in hot pursuit. Most importantly, he said he would miss his teammates, who inspire him to work harder and get better every single day. Including Thomas Passman. Once in quarantine, he said he has no idea how he would pass time. He said he was considering just eating ice cream and watching netflix. He decided this might not be the greatest idea, and changed his mind and said he would commit to practicing knitting and perfecting his yo-yo skills should the season be cancelled. He also said he might consider exercising and training, but that depends on how dedicated he might become to knitting and yo-yoing, skills he said he has had a talent for since he was young. Regardless of when the season might continue should it be suspended, he said that he will be ready to play and catch passes again, even if with a few extra pounds - a very good tradeoff for unmatched yo-yo skills amongst the league.

So the year is 2035. For some reason 15 years after the virus has died down the NSFL and DSFL are closing its doors for a considerable amount of time to help stop the spread of a now defunct virus. Brayden Ennis hearing this news missed another tackle and stopped to think. He is no longer the only starting player getting 0 stats per game and in this thought decided to boot up his favorite Football simulation game that he decided he would play endlessly until the League Wide quarantine was over. The game being Free Agency Week Amateur Foosball where Ennis simulates the fictional league with teams like the Chicago Huggers, Austin Snake Eaters, and Oakland Sabercats. In this sim Ennis makes moves like real life with Chicago teams trading all of their picks and the same teams winning every year. Except for one detail was awry. Ennis made himself and somehow would get more then 1 tackle per game. In fact he was useful getting an average of 4 tackles per game and a season average of 8 Sacks. But of course It's just a fictional league he will now be simming in every week since the league is essentially defunct and Ennis can't even see his teammates
I would be luckier than most in the case of the head office deciding to suspend season 21 of the NSFL and DSFL. I would certainly be sad and frustrated to my hard work and that of my teammates and coaches go to waste, but I know there are some in the league that have little to fall back on, to say nothing of the regular simulated citizens of our simulated world.
For me, the unexpected break would mean a return to Japan. Not only would finding shelter in my family's estate outside of Yokohama be an escape from major population centers like Portland where I now live and play and my family's current home in Seattle, but it would also be a welcome respite for my mind, body, and soul to have that time to meditate, train, and restore myself for the coming seasons. Especially in the lead-up to the draft and my busy schedule with the Pythons, my kendo form has gotten sloppy, it'll be good to get some work in on that. It'll be harder to stay in contact with my mostly American teammates from Japan, but I know we'll find opportunities to message and to have some heated matches of NSFL 2k36. I'll miss a lot of my fellow rookies that I've come to Portland with, especially the guys on the OLine or in the secondary, but finding the right space to help flatten the curve and to restore myself to come back stronger as soon as the situation is over would be my first priority. -Tatsu Nakamura (260) |
