With the NSFL draft coming very soon, and the expansion draft wrapping up, I think it's time to start looking at the team needs again, due to most of the older or low TPE players being snatched from their former teams and onto the new expansion teams, and also the needs for a Running Back on the roster to help fill out the Roster. There are a lot of great Running Backs in the class, and all need a place to go on Friday.
Baltimore Hawks
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: First off we have the Hawks, who in the expansion draft only lost - Fabricio Baldari and Sandip "Sandy" Bakshi, both defensive players who were extracted from the team in order to go South to the next expansion teams. Now onto the Running Back Situation, at the moment the rushing attack is lead by S15 payer Apollo Reed, who is entering regression this year and up and coming back up, S20 player Darrel Williams, who looks to take over the lead role when the large hand of regression sweeps Reed away. Overall, the Hawks do not need to keep a huge eye on the RB class this year and make a splash in the position in around the next two seasons, as Reed’s TPE value will continue to plummet.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: I honestly would enjoy going to any team, and the Hawks are an intriguing team, with continued success, and many playoff appearances, but this team does not have the want or need for a RB in this draft, as their two Running Backs will continue to lead their team to victory, but I would say to take a look in the Quarterback department for them too, because of the Expansion GM Raven taking over the Hahalua for the foreseeable future.
Chicago Butchers
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: In the expansion draft, for a team that needed to keep its young players, it lost Beat, a steadily earning S19 Safety that could have taken up the reigns of now in regression safety Jack Rambo. This was the only player taken from the Butchers in this Expansion Draft, so it did not impact them as much as some of the other Juggernaut teams. Onto the Running Back Situation, with Ryan Leaf Jr., a 1000+ TPE player who just entered regression, but announced retirement at the end of this season, and backup RB Farley Hank, who was acquired in a trade by the Butchers last season, who happens to also be in regression, and has not updated in a month. This seems like the draft for the Butchers to begin their full rebuild, and acquire their new star RB to jumpstart their offense.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: While this team has suffered from a combination of bad trades, bad GMs, and overall hate from the league, I believe this to be a great place to go, due to new GM’s and their focus on rebuilding, as opposed to the impossible “Win-Now” mentality that was held by the team for the last couple of seasons, and as a RB you would be the star of the team in about two seasons time when Hank falls deep into regression. I would enjoy trying to turn this franchise around and be the best team player that it would require to keep a happy locker room.
Colorado Yeti
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: In the Expansion draft, the Yeti lost top Wide Receiver Laszlo Forty-Two, who is one season away from regression, and also Defensive End Steco Ocewilder, a steady earner from S18. From the first look, it seems that the Yeti need to find some weapons to help Quarterback Wolfie McDummy succeed in this pass-happy NSFL. Onto the Running Back situation where the Yeti is in a great spot with max earner Ashley Owens from S17, and also a quality backup in Michael Vincent from S18. With both of these running backs two and three seasons away from regression, the Yeti has no problems with not making any moves at RB for the next couple of seasons.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: After being on the Grey Ducks for 4 seasons total across two careers, I know that the GM, Woelkers does have a plan for this Yeti team, and although I would like to be under that leadership again this is just not a great landing spot for myself due to the possibility of never getting playing time, especially due to the already great Running Back core, so I would prefer a place where the only option would be to position switch at the time. Despite this, I would be happy to go here due to the up and coming roster, who has gotten more and more success since joining the league.
Philadelphia Liberty
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: In the expansion draft, most Liberty players were taken in the middle rounds of the draft, with K/P Venus Powers and Emondov Emoji CB went to the Hahalua, and Mike Franchet DE went to the Sailfish. With these picks, the Liberty lost its franchise kicker, so look for them to take one in this draft, along with their best and only valuable cornerback in Emoji, and if this would have been his first season in regression, look for Phili to make a splash in this draft with multiple picks for the secondary. Regarding their need for running backs, their main ball-carrier is Sam Torenson, a max-earner who is one season from regression, but that won’t make a whole big difference on him, as it isn't hitting that hard yet. The back-up is Fuzzy Dotson, a S18 who is a steady earner and a quality back-up for Torenson. This group of Running Backs is just like the Yeti, set for the next couple seasons at the position.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: I'm not too familiar with this team as I am with the other ones, but I would enjoy going to this team and have a mentor with Torenson and eventually have a dual-headed rushing force of Lackson and Dotson. But due to all of the defensive players that this team needs, it knocks it down a few notches, and I see it very unlikely that this team will draft very many offensive players in this draft that is full of Defense.
Sarasota Sailfish
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: Being one of the expansion teams, the Sailfish decided to focus more on the offensive side of the ball. Starting with free agent pick up, the disgruntled former Butcher Zach Vega, and the three Wide Receiver additions through the draft. These Wide Receivers are Dexter Banks II, Rayne Gordon, and Laszlo Forty-Two who all still have a season without regression, leading to the offense of the team being fairly NSFL-level good, but the defense is another story. Onto the RB situation, the Sailfish have their GM player, max-earner Dax Frost, but the Sailfish are lacking in the back-up department, and they could start a very good offense with all active QB, RB, and WR core.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: I think this team, despite being new, will have a lot of close games throughout the upcoming season, that said, I don’t believe that the team will be able to make any deep playoff runs without the defense, and that is where the team will probably make its move in the draft, especially with this large class, and they will definitely take a counterpart to Frost in the later rounds.
Yellowknife Wraiths
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: After making the Ultimus four seasons in a row without a win, this expansion draft only hurt them. Starting with losing their backup running back as a GM, Dax Frost, along with Jayson Kearse, a DE who was going to replace now in regression Nero Alexander, but now the Wraiths are going to have to look for more defense, especially defensive line, and safety. For the running back situation, we have former OPOY Mathias Hanyadi and Orien Drake, both S18 steadily earning running backs who are both 3 seasons away from regression, so this position is locked in place for at least four seasons.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: This team has the firepower to win the Ultimus, as it has proven by making it every season for the past four seasons, and it looks like it needs a change in the Quarterback or WR, and it will happen in the upcoming draft with a GM pick, but an RB is not needed at this time, and I wouldn’t want to ruin any future plans by taking an RB early.
Arizona Outlaws
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: The expansion draft took away two players from the Outlaws, Ruff Ruff, an inactive RB with 500 TPE, and Lucas Knight, a 1000+ TPE cornerback who is entering regression this year. This left the Outlaws with only 9 players on the roster, according to the TPE tracker so the Outlaws have a lot of holes to fill with this huge draft class. Onto the RB situation, wherewith starter Ruff Ruff gone, the send down Baby Yoda will take over the reins of the rushing attack, leaving the need for a backup on the roster.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: The Outlaws are continuing their rebuild, and the success of it falls on the young players, but you need to fill positions out as well and a backup RB is needed, I would like to be apart of a rebuild that has the makings of being successful, and I would like to be apart of a successful team, especially to be reunited with my former rushing attack leader, Baby Yoda.
Austin Copperheads
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: For the former Ultimus champion, S21 was a rough year, starting with not returning to the Ultimus with sky-high expectations, and losing three players in the expansion draft, Jacoby Clay WR, Victor Moreno CB, and finally Chase Jensen S. Both Clay and Moreno are both S20 players, who have not been updated in a month, who if they come back could be a very useful addition to the Hahalua. Onto the RB situation, they have Mako Mendonca, a max earning S16 player, but there is no back-up, which would help take some of the pressure of an aging Mendonca, who will enter regression next year.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: I like this team a lot, I would be happy to be the backup to such a great running back, and a great franchise who seems to be destined for more success in the future. But this team needs to work on defense like all of the other teams, and luckily there is a lot of talent in this draft class that all can take advantage of.
Honolulu Hahalua
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: Finally we get to the second expansion team, who unlike their Sarasota counterpart, they focused more on defense, and the team also gets their QB as a GM from the Hawks, Corvo Havran, for a couple of seasons, even if Havran is into regression. Onto the Running Back situation, where expansion pick Ruff Ruff is serviceable for about 3 seasons, so they will be able to fill out their offense in this draft class that most will be focused on the defensive portion of.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: As I said with the Sarasota franchise, joining a brand new team would be fun, especially to be apart of the culture and atmosphere building stage of being successful, and I believe that I would fit the team, and I would be a great starting Rb if given the chance after Ruff Ruff’s progression falls off the cliff due to regression.
New Orleans Second Line
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview:
The defending champions have a new issue in their chance to repeat, a combination of retirements and the expansion draft hitting hard. They lost 3 players in the expansion draft, the first is the planned to be primary wide receiver Jed Podolak, Linebacker Mack Arianlacher, and cornerback Jordan Andrews, who are a part of S18, S19, and S17 respectively. The current situation at RB is rather solid, S15 RB Forrest Gump has just entered regression, but, they have S18 RB Marcella Toriki to back him up, so they probably don’t need a RB for a couple of seasons.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: Although this team is the defending Ultimus champion, I don’t see it as a good fit for my player, both Gump and Toriki are both active max-earning players, and Toriki is even the commissioner of the league! There will be a bit of an RB opening in about two seasons when Gump’s regression starts to get to him, but I will not be around to fill in the void at the time.
Orange County Otters
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: Falling short of reaching the Ultimis this season, Franklin Armstrong and crew were determined to win it next year, then the expansion draft hit. The first pick took away the top Wideout on the Team, Dexter Banks II, then later took starting TE Johnny Blaze and LB Jaylen Storm, which will open up a new spot at WR that S21 rookie Remon Kuritsuto will try to fill. Onto the RB situation, the Otters have one RB on the roster, Ludicolo Bigby, who only has around 500 TPE and has fallen inactive, along with also falling into regression, so look for the Otters to make a big splash at the position in a couple of days time at the draft due to the large RB class.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: I would be very interested in joining this team, especially that it will need to develop its next offensive superstar with Armstrong on the slow decline of regression, but I do think the Otters have a plan for this issue, and they will likely go Rb in the first tree round of the draft. I think Goodman and Skyline would be good fits for this issue, but I wouldn’t mind them taking me in the middle rounds.
San Jose Sabercats
Expansion Draft and RB Situation Overview: The Sabercats are in the middle stages of their rebuild, and are moving away from older players towards the bright youth of this draft class. The two players taken from the Sabercats were Freezer Riposte a DT, and Joseph Wozniak a S. Both of these players were inactive, and Riposte is already in his fourth season of regression. Onto the Running Back situation, the Sabercats have their star of the future with steadily earning Rando Cardrissian, but lack a quality backup, as it is currently an inactive S19 player, named Quindarius Tyerucker, who can be serviceable, but not as a long term RB2 for the team. This team should be looking for a decent RB in the middle rounds to help fill out the needed RB2 situation there.
Lackson’s Opinion on the Team: This is another team I’d like to join, mostly because I had a conversation along with the scouting questions, and it left a better impression than just copy and paste questions, and it really showed how much the team cared about scouting, even with this huge draft class! Overall, for any RB this would be a great place to land.
Thanks, everyone for taking the time to read this, this is my take on positional needs from a RB perspective for all of the NSFL teams, just to say again, this RB class is amazing and no one from it needs to be undervalued, we can all be studs!
